Today, when the industry based Indian economy is growing rapidly, agriculture is on the back seat and so are the farmers. It is important to point out that India has 1/6th population of the world and out of that around 72.2% live in villages who constitute the overlooked part of our society.
These villages lack the basic infrastructure and facilities which could have given a different image to INDIA and its villages.

THE NEEDS There is an urgent need to restore and revive, rich cultural heritage that constitutes handicrafts, arts and crafts and make it a source of livelihood for those who have an expertise in it. Providing good education, health and community facilities are again very important. Various institutions and research centres have been set up, performing technological advancements in these fields. But dissemination of these technologies and letting them reach the people, for whom they are made for is a major concern.

THE PROBLEMS
Farmers today are facing problems regarding Irrigation, Electricity, Regulated markets Unavailability of other options for livelihood

A resource centre where activities for bringing together social, environmental and technological knowledge to generate sustainable livelihoods in rural areas is a requirement.

A Rural activity centre or village centre will be such an institution established on these lines

I N T R O D U C T I O N

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Learning from the past, understanding the present, and defining future. Upliftment of weaker section of the villages. Address the problems faced by villagers. Dissemination of technologies to be available for the end user. Provide and livelihoods. help promote sustainable

SIGNIFICANCE

Everyday there are news regarding farmer suicides, movements and depriving villagers The government efforts are not reaching the end user effectively. A resource centre in lines with the activities happening in the village with self supporting structure is a demand.

This centre will work as a module, to be setup in villages, to have a direct link with its users and cater the needs and problems, to a great effect. It may have different requirements and spatial expression depending on the site but the conceptualization will be same. Understanding the needs, getting most out of available resources and working cordially with self help groups is a necessity.

Simultaneously, a concept of sustainable village, where a villager need not move out of his village for his livelihood is in the glory of this project. Campus can be funded, developed and sustained by the conscious efforts of government schemes and policies (by CAPART NREGA, SGSY, SGRY, ARTS etc), NGOs, Civil Societies, Corporate, Professionals and established institutes.

P R O B L E M

A way to improve the condition of villagers and eradicate poverty with sustainability is to empower these people with self sustaining infrastructure and facilities. To uplift them, we first need to understand their basic needs, therefore an understanding of these needs is required before a development strategy can be proposed. In my understanding the priorities should be as under:

Education Farmer training institute

Agriculture centre
Adult literacy centre Library Youth centre Audio visual room Sewing Weaving Handmade paper unit Paper crafts and Screen printing Puppetry Director Instructors Other employees Guest house

There is need for education, health, employment and knowledge sharing for the people of the villages. A programme which will help and promote the basic needs, not going into details of policy making, is proposed with a view to uplift this section of or society.

The project caters to the rural areas of a precinct. Being substantially a large village, it is well connected with other nearby villages. Also the site is surrounded by 8 nearby villages and 14 villages with approachable distances to cater the maximum population of the precinct and hence justifying the need of the centre at this location. Existing infrastructure The village has good infrastructural facilities as compared to other villages. Primary health centre, intermediate schools and veterinary hospitals are provided by the government.

Site Analysis The site has been divided into 3 parts, respecting its accessibility. First part is around200 metres away from the approach roads, therefore this area has potential for activities which will be less access by people. Second part is directly linked with the state highway and has approach roads on it, therefore it has good potential for the institution entrance. Keeping the second part for accessibility, the third part can be put into various built spaces.
