Empire 7s Tournament Rules

I. Teams/Eligibility: a. All players are required to be undergraduate students of the school they are playing for and must meet the regulations of USA Rugby colligate eligibility. b. Each player MUST be on the teams CIPP roster no later the 8PM on 11/18/2011. Players not on the teams CIPP roster will not be allowed to participate in the tournament. c. Each player must have a valid school ID at the day of the tournament and present the ID to the tournament director on the day of the tournament d. All players must sign the tournament liability form or they will not be allowed to participate. e. Rosters will be limited to 12 registered players per entered Team; 10 players, 2 injury reserves. f. All teams must have matching uniforms and should have an extra kit available in the event there is a color clash between sides.

II.

Matches:

a. All games will be played with in the IRB 7s rules. (http://www.irblaws.com/downloads/EN/Sevens_Var_EN.pdf) Below are some key rules to remember: i. Not more than 7 players from each team may be on the field-ofplay during a match at any one time. ii. Three players are required to form a scrum iii. Up to 3 substitutions allowed per match 1. If a player is substituted they can not return to the match 2. A player substituted temporarily for blood, may return to the match. iv. Conversion kicks must be drop kicks v. After a score, the team that has scored kicks off with a drop kick b. All matches will kick off at the time and place scheduled on the tournament board near the information tent. c. Teams must be present at the field no later then 5 minutes to kick off. If the team is not present at the scheduled field ready to play the match is forfeit. d. Each match will consist of seven minute halves with a one minute interval between each half. i. If the scores are equal at the end of a match, the game will continue with 7 minute over time periods, with the team whom scores 1st being declared the winner. e. The final match will be 10 minute halves with a two minute interval at half.

f. We will rank teams in each pool after pool play as follows: i. Best record. ii. Head-to-head competition. iii. Best point differential. iv. Most points scored. v. Number of tries. vi. Number of converted kicks. vii. Coin toss. III. Discipline: a. If the referee issues a red card to a player and/or coach for any reason, he may not participate further in the tournament. b. The issuing of 2 yellow cards to the same player through out the tournament shall result in a suspension of 1 game. The issue of 3 yellow cards to the same player and the player will not be able to participate in any future matches. c. Any inappropriate behavior at the field or at the tournament hotel by any individual or team will be reported to the individual/teams local union, the teams school officials, USA Rugbys Competition Committee and will result in banishment from any future participation at a Stony Brook University event. IV. Appeals a. Any appeals for matches, results or discipline should be made to the tournament director. An appeals committee consisting of the tournament director and the head referee will make a decision on the appeal. V. National Advancement a. The winner of the Cup Trophy will receive the automatic bid to USA Collegiate 7s Championship.

Team Name: _____________________________________________ (Please Print) UNIVERSITY OF STONY BROOK Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement Waiver: In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way in the Empire 7s Tournament. Hereinafter called "Activity", I, for myself, my heirs, personal representatives or assigns, do hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue the University of Stony Brook, its officers, employees, and agents from liability from any and all claims resulting in personal injury, accidents or illnesses (including death), and property loss arising from, but not limited to, participation in Activity. Assumption of Risks: Participation in Activity carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. The specific risks vary from one activity to another, but the risks range from 1) minor injuries such as scratches, bruises, and sprains to 2) major injuries such as eye injury or loss of sight, joint or back injuries, heart attacks, and concussions to 3) catastrophic injuries including paralysis and death. I have read the previous paragraphs and I know, understand, and appreciate these and other risks that are inherent in Activity I hereby assert that my participation is voluntary and that I knowingly assume all such risks. Indemnification and Hold Harmless: I also agree to INDEMNIFY AND HOLD The Regents of the University of Stony Brook HARMLESS from any and all claims, actions, suits, procedures, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities, including attorneys fees brought as a result of my involvement in Activity and to reimburse them for any such expenses incurred. Severability: The undersigned further expressly agrees that the foregoing waiver and assumption of risks agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the State of California and that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. Acknowledgment of Understanding: I have read this waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement, fully understand its terms, and understand that I am giving up substantial rights, including my right to sue. I acknowledge that I am signing the agreement freely and voluntarily, and intend by my signature to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law.

Acknowledgement of Understanding: I acknowledge that I have read the attached Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement and fully understand its terms. I affirm that I am voluntarily participating in the Activity and further acknowledge that I know, understand, and appreciate the inherent risks of participation. I assume full responsibility for any and all injuries or damages which may occur to me as a result of the inherent risks associated with participation.
