CHARITY
Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens Charity The Hospital for Sick Children first opened it doors at 49 Great Ormond Street on Valentines Day 1852 with 10 beds. Dr Charles West was the driving force behind its opening, driven by the shockingly high level of infant mortality in the capital. The first child admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital as an out-patient was two-year-old George Parr, who had catarrh and diarrhoea not serious by todays standards, but this was a time when one third of children born in London died before adulthood. Help us save more lives, develop new treatments, build state of the art facilities and support our remarkable patients and their families. With your donation we can continue to put the child first and always. Great Ormond Street Hospital deals with more than 175,000 patient visits every year. Read some of the remarkable stories of our patients and their families. Donations allow the hospital to buy equipment, fund research and provide better facilities that would otherwise be unaffordable under the NHS.

ARTIST INTERPRETATIONS
In the months leading up to this event we have commisioned some top artists and designers to produce thier own interpretations of Dickens famous works. The starting point was a plain white hardback book, all slightly varying in size and upon these the artists were allowed to produce a piece fo work, using and media and processes they wish. These books will be auctioned off during the launch night event and all money raised will go to Greast Ormond Street Hopsital, something very close to Dickens heart.
Without this extraordinary thingwe couldnt have got anywhere, because tense allows you to say what youre going to do tomorrow. Or the day after tomorrow. Or it allows one person to say to another person Do you remember that thing we saw yesterday? Three sunsets ago, that place there. Lets meet there in four sunsets time. Thats immediately a plan, instead of having to improvise like a wolf pack by instinctYou set out a plan and then implement it. It underwrites everything that is our civilization.
