Monetary Theory and Policy


ASSESSMENT The assessment for this module is 100% individual coursework Undertake ONE of the following essays EITHER 1/ Evaluate the role of moral hazard issues in helping cause the global financial crisis of the late 2000s and in determining the optimal official policy responses necessary to prevent future financial crises. Please note a/ Official in this context relates to the policies of government, central bank and regulatory agencies. b/ Include in your analysis consideration of alternative views on the relative significance of market failure and official failure in causing the financial crisis. . c/ Do not consider issues specific to the recent Eurozone crisisi.e. you should not consider the specific issues related to the financial crises in particular Eurozone countries related to sovereign debt crises,their implications for European monetary union and international competitiveness. (These matters will be analysed in the International Economics module (QME6013) OR 2/ Evaluate the relevance of the quantity theory of money in the 21st century. NB 1/ Include in your analysis consideration of alternative views on the quantity theory of money 2/ Evaluate relevant theoretical analysis and empirical evidence

NB : For both essays 1. Word limit 5,000 words.

Simply citing 7 or more sources will not even guarantee a pass mark You are required to note all sources using the Harvard referencing system.
