N.B. The number of vacancies shown in column 07 above against each post is
subject to variation.
(Reservation for STs, OBCs, Disabled Persons etc. at the rate prescribed by the
Govt. of India/A & N Administration from time to time shall be applicable; the details
of which will be published separately.)
3. Eligibility Conditions: -
(i) All candidates shall be required to apply for the post in the prescribed form
irrespective of the fact whether they are registered with the Employment
Exchange or not.
(ii) The Departmental candidates must apply through proper channel only.
(iii) The candidates should indicate double-digit code number only for the Post(s)
applied for in the boxes provided at Section A of the Application Form in
order of their choice.
(iv) Applicant must be an Indian national.
4. Age Limit: - (i) For Males - 18 to 33 years
(ii) For Females - 18 to 38 years
Note:- A Candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 18
years and must not have attained the age of 33/38 years in respect of male/female
candidates respectively as on 01.08.2011 i.e. he/she must have been born not
earlier than 01.08.1978/1973 respectively and not later than 01.08.1993.
(Relaxable for Govt. servants and ST candidates up to 5 years and for
OBC 03 years. Also relaxable to the Blind, Deaf-mute and Orthopaedically
handicapped persons upto 10 year for general (unreserved), 15 years for ST and 13
years for OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions/orders issued by the
Govt. of India).
5. Educational Qualification: -
As indicated against each post in Col. 5 & 6 of para 02 above.
6. Fee Payable:- No Fee.
7. Centre of Examination :-
The Examination will be held at Port Blair, Hut Bay, Car Nicobar, Kamorta,
Campbell Bay, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur. The applicants should
indicate the Centre from which he/she proposes to appear in the written
examination, in the space provided in the Application Form. No request for
change of Examination Centre will be entertained later.

8. Scheme of the Examination: -
The Examination will consist of two parts, viz.:-
Part-I :- Written Examination
Part-II :- Proficiency Test/Trade Test/ Proficiency cum Trade Test
(As described under Col 05 to 06 above)
Part I Written Examination: Subjects of the examination, time allowed, and
maximum marks for each subject will be as follows: -

There will be a single paper for all the four subjects, having Objective
Multiple-Choice-Type Questions and candidates will be required to qualify in one
and all the four subjects separately. The authorities will have full discretion to fix the
minimum qualifying marks in one and all the subjects. The question paper in
respect of subjects at Sl. No. (i), (iii) & (iv) above will be set in English & Hindi. Only
such candidates, who attain a minimum standard, as may be fixed by the
Authorities in their discretion, will be eligible to take the Professional/Trade Test (Part-
II of the Examination). The written examination shall be held on 11-12-2011.

SYLLABUS:
(i) General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions of both
Verbal and Non-Verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies,
similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving analysis,
judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation,
relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification,
arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test also includes
questions designed to test the candidates ability to deal with abstract ideas
and symbols and their relationship, and other analytical functions.
(ii) English Language & Comprehension: Questions in this test will assess the
knowledge of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure,
synonyms, antonyms etc. There will also be questions on comprehension of a
passage.
(iii) Quantitative Aptitude: Questions will be designed to test the ability of
arithmetical computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and
relationship between numbers. This test will also include problems relating to
percentage, ratio and proportion, average estimation, use of table and
graphs, menstruation, time and distance, ratio and time etc.

(iv) General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the general
awareness of the candidate about the environment around him and its
application to society. Questions will also be designed to test the
knowledge of current events. The test will also include questions relating
to India and its neighboring Countries especially pertaining to History,
Culture, Geography, Economic, General Science, and Political and
Scientific Research.
(Note:- The Visually Handicapped candidates taking the assistance of
Writer/Scribes will be allowed 2 hrs 20 minutes timing for Written
Examination instead of 2 hours)
Part-II: Proficiency Test/Trade Test/ Proficiency-cum-Trade Test.
Wherever Proficiency Test/Trade Test/ Proficiency cum Trade Test is
prescribed as essential qualification for the post the same will be
conducted to the successful candidates by concerned Department
followed by written examination before finalizing the final Merit List of the
candidates by the Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi.

9. Selection of Candidates: -
(A) Final selection for appointment to the post(s) notified herein will be made on
the basis of total marks secured in the written examination subject to the
candidates qualifying in the Proficiency Test/Trade Test/ Proficiency-cum-
Trade Test which will be conducted by the respective departments;
(B) The Proficiency Test/Trade Test/ Proficiency-cum-Trade Test will be conducted
only to the candidates who are successfully in the written examination;.
(C) The A & N Administration will forward the list of successful candidates to the
respective Heads of Departments keeping in view the number of vacancies
notified in each category from the merit list made available by the SSC for
appointment against the respective posts;
(D) Merit list will be prepared on the principle that name of a candidate appears
for appointment against one post only, which will be determined with
reference to the order of preference exercised by him/her in the Application
Form.
10. Documents to be attached with the Application:
(i) Two copies of recent passport size (3.5x4.5 cm.) photographs in addition
to the photograph to be pasted on the Application Form.
(NB: Please write name of the candidate on the backside of the
photographs).
(ii) One self-addressed Post Card. (Candidate should write the Name and
Year of the Examination on the Post Card in addition to his postal
address).
(iii) Two self-addressed Envelopes of 12 cm x 25 cm size, out of which one
should contain/affix postage stamp worth Rs. 15.00.

(iv) Two slips (with 10cm x 05 cm size) indicating name and postal address of
the candidate.
(v) Attested copies of all the valid certificates showing Age, Educational
qualifications and Employment Registration Card and Category
certificate of those who seek reservation under any of such categories.
(vi) Attested copy of the certificate issued by the CBSE or any other
recognized Board of Education, should be attached as proof of age.
Note:-
(i) Only attested copies of Certificates are required to be sent. Original
Certificates need not be attached with the Application.
(ii) Incomplete or un-signed application or application without supporting
documents described at Para 10 above is liable to be rejected.
11. How to Apply:
The application in the prescribed form together with attested copies of the
documents/testimonials indicated against Col.10, addressed to the Assistant
Secretary (Personnel), Secretariat, A & N Administration, Port Blair 744101
should be submitted in person/by post, which should reach the addressee on or
before the closing date/time indicated against Col. 12.
(The applications sent by post/Courier service should be dispatched well in time
so as to reach the same to the addressee on or before the prescribed closing
time/date)
12. Closing Date :- 3.00P.M on 18.11.2011.
(Applications received after the closing time/date either in person or by
post/courier service will not be entertained under any circumstance)
13. Admission to the Examination: -
(I) Before submitting his/her application, the candidate must carefully read the
eligibility conditions prescribed for the Post(s) and satisfy himself/herself that
he/she fulfills all eligibility criteria prescribed therein.
(II) Admission Certificate (Admit card) for the written Examination indicating the
time-Table/Venue of the Examination will be issued to all eligible applicants
at least two weeks before the date of examination.
(III) If any candidate does not receive the Admission Certificate (Admit card) for
the examination till 1(one) week before the date of Examination, he/she
must immediately contact the Assistant Secretary (Persl), A&N Administration,
Secretariat, Port Blair in person for issue of duplicate Admission Certificate
(Admit Card) subject to production of Acknowledgement Card. Failure to
do so will deprive the candidate to appears in the Written Examination.
