Triathlon PKR Partial Knee Resurfacing

Sizing without compromising

Proper sizing of the femur in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty is difficult; especially through a minimally invasive approach.1

Size Interchangeability: The Triathlon PKR System utilizes femoral components that feature all the same bone cuts. The ability to upsize or downsize without addressing any bone cuts is known as size interchangeability. With size interchangeability, you are not committed to the size of the femoral component until after the trialing process. Benefits: No additional bone cuts needed to upsize or downsize the femoral component. Ability to optimize anterior run out/posterior coverage. Potential to avoid patella impingement. Ability to optimize M/L coverage.
Any sized femur can be trialed after bone cuts are completed

A recent study revealed that methods used for femoral sizing in other unicompartmental knee systems may not provide ideal size.1 In addition, current systems on the market do not offer the ability to easily change between femoral component sizes. Strykers Triathlon Partial Knee Resurfacing System includes features designed to maximize sizing accuracy while providing intra-operative flexibility to change between any of the 6 sizes.

Drill Through Trials: Final peg preparation is completed through the femoral trial after proper placement has been determined. (See images). The drill bushing acts as a dedicated stop for the drill to prevent over preparing of the peg holes. Benefits: Ability to modify M/L position of component prior to peg prep. Complete control over final component placement. Consistent Peg Locations: All femoral components feature the same peg locations. Femoral sizing can be changed after peg prep is complete.

Other systems on the market are less flexible when determining the size and position of the femoral components. Biomets Oxford Femoral Component Size: Determined through pre-operative templating (as recommended by the surgical technique).2 1 @ This method was shown to be inaccurate 33% of the time. Position: Commitment to position is made during the 3rd step of the procedure, before any femoral bone preparation.2 @ The ability to modify femoral component position later in the case may become difficult. Zimmers High Flex Uni Femoral Component Size: Determined after the distal resection. The bone cuts made during this step require size commitment.3 Position: Determined when size of the femoral component is chosen. Rotation of the femoral component is also set during this step.3 @ The ability to modify femoral component position later in the case may become difficult.

Take advantage of this sizing flexibility!
