ENGLISH LUNCH EXTRAVAGANZA Last Monday, a group of Year 13 English students shared their great wisdom and knowledge with those studying English in the year below. A great banquet of cheese and pickle sandwiches and fluorescent orange potato snacks was provided. The Year 12s were given the chance to ask questions about the English Lit course and receive advice on coursework and exam revision. Year 13 representatives from the English Literature classes also discussed the importance of studying exemplar essays and reading the set texts multiple times before the exam. For English Lit Lang we discussed with the year 12s how to tackle their upcoming January exam, how it is difficult to learn the frameworks and then apply them to the texts through analysis. We discussed how the best way to learn the frameworks is to write out a grid and learn them systematically, as well as doing practical annotations to pick them out of context. All in all we think our support will continue to benefit them and will help their confidence. Ollie McKendrick-Ness & Louisa Bishop Year13 Due to the success of this event we propose to run a second session for the remainder of the students, after half term. Young Games Makers London 2012 - 6th Formers "When we won the bid to host the London 2012 Games, we made a promise to inspire more young people to choose sport. One of the ways we can do this is through volunteering. Were proud to offer more than 2,000 opportunities for 16-18 year olds to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Were looking for recognised organisations such as youth or sports clubs and community and volunteering groups, as well as Get Set Network schools and colleges, to put forward over 250 teams of young volunteers to help us fulfil vital roles and help make the Games happen. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people to get involved in the greatest show on earth while learning new skills, gaining experience and making new friends. Young Games Makers will be needed in the Technology department and across a number of sports, from Aquatics and Athletics to Taekwondo and Volleyball.
