RQX-1410 QoS Measurement Probe

1.1 General overview
The RQX-1000 is a very innovative OEM solution especially designed to perform the Terrestrial Digital TV signal quality measurements. RQX-1000 consists in a compact size OEM module, ready to be integrated within transmitters or within QoS integrated solutions. It includes a DTV demodulator to perform signal decoding to supply stream output. Additionally, a front-end low noise tuner is implemented to authorize high performance of MER measurement that is commonly requested for QoS monitoring purpose. To ease its integration within QoS completed system, RQX-1000 features an IP over Ethernet port used for both product control and streaming output. RQX-1000 provides a large choice in term of retrieved monitoring parameters and data. Typical RF signal performance figures such as Input level, MER, Signal to Noise ratio (C/N), Bit Error Rates and Packet or Frame Error Rate are collected in real-time. Furthermore, the user can upload more complex and added-value measurement data such as the RF signal spectrum display, the I/Q constellation diagram, the signal power bar graph, the delay profile as well as the SFN Window. RQX-1000 product family consists of several models covering ISDB-T/TB and DVBT/T2 applications. The ~TCM-RQX-1410 is the reference demodulator that provides the means to measure and to monitor signal performance figures for DVB-T/T2.

1.2 Block diagram
The next figure shows the block diagram for RQX-1000 demodulator.

Figure 1: RQX-1000 block diagram

The block diagram displays the functional organization of the RQX-1000 module that accepts two different input signals: RF and TS signal. RQX-1000 bloc diagram is illustrated above. It consists of two main sub-parts: the front-end and the processing. The front-end is designed for a specific standard and hosts the demodulator chipset. This process is responsible for the signal demodulation as well as the acquisition of I/Q signal samples via a low noise RF tuner that are necessary for the MER calculation. The processing bloc includes a measurement process and a stream management function. The stream management is able to receive two streams in parallel, one form the demodulator and another one from external. Those two streams are then encapsulated over IP packet and streamed over the Ethernet interface. The clock and synchronization part is able to accept an external 10MHz time reference, in particularly used to estimate any RF Carrier Frequency Offset (F). RQX-1000 can be fully controlled via IP.

2.1.2

Synchronization status for DEMOD

In RQX-1000, a specific synchronization process has been implemented in particularly to run advanced features such as Fine MER, Shoulder measurements, CIR, etc. (see DEMOD features). In order to help system integrator to correctly identify when this process is correctly synchronized or not, and consequently to detect if the advanced measurement results are relevant or not, two status are available on the API: Time Synchronization and Freq. Synchronization status. (please see command 0xB0 Byte 16). 2.1.3 Control Interfaces

- Ethernet control interface The control of the RQX-1000 platform is fully made using an Ethernet link. The used protocol is a proprietary protocol based on XML over HTTP. Please see RQX-1000 Developers Guide for more details. - RS232 control interface RS232 communication port can be used to retrieve the control IP address using Hyperterminal software. A PC must be connected to the equipment with a direct cable. RS232 port settings are: Speed 57600 bits/s 8 data bits No parity 1 stop bit No flow control

As shown in the previous figure, the user will type TX 11 8B and press enter. In the answer, the IP address is C0A800D2: 192.168.0.209

4.3 ~TCM-RQX-1410 wiring

The wiring of the module depends on the module and environment in which it is integrated in. The connection of the reference signals as well as the RF input signal are the more critical one, and the cable quality, the length of the cable as well as the quality of the connector has to be chosen to avoid any degradation of the signal. The power supply connection should use wires with a gauge compatible with the consumption of the module (0.5 mm minimum). Wiring of the control interface is not critical for connection inside a rack. The connection of the RS485 requires twisted pair cable. Special cares should be taken in the wiring of the module to comply with EMC constraints.
