Charlevoix Area Hospital is committed to providing high-quality services to this community and top-of-the- line equipment to meet the needs of area patients, says Jennifer Cunningham, Lead CT Technologist at CAH. I am incredibly pleased with this equipment and the ca- pabilities it oers our doc- tors and patients. CT scans are used to diag- nose serious illness or injury especially when the cause or symptoms are not easily de- tectable with a conventional physical exam. One key fea- ture of the Optima 660 is that it provides exceptional diagnostic imaging while re- ducing radiation dosage. e dosage is up to 40% lower than the previous technology, with improved image clarity and resolution. Low dose scanning is espe- cially benefcial for women who may be or may become pregnant, patients requiring repeat CT exams, and chil- dren. CAH already follows the Image Gently pedi- atrics dosing protocol, which monitors and reduces the radiation dosage given to children receiving scans. e new equipment will lower that dose even more. Another new feature is the Dose Check technology that will help technologists manage the amount of radi- ation given to patients. Dose Check notifes and alerts CT users prior to scanning if the estimated dose is above set values. Ad- ditionally, the technology requires user authority checks and it enables specif- ically-defned pediatric and adult alert values. CAH believes that doctors and patients should receive the valuable information provided in their scans as soon as possible. anks to pre-set protocols for trauma situations, the hospital will be able to scan patients more quickly than previ- ously. In addition, they can provide same day results for other CT services including CT Angiography (Renal, Carotid, Mesenteric, Aorta Run-os), Advanced Vessel Analysis, Brain Perfusion, and Lung Nodule Analysis. is technology was in- troduced a few years ago in Europe, but was only re- cently approved for use in the U.S. We were due to renew our contract or up- grade our equipment, and this was a perfect opportu- nity to acquire this new sys- tem, says Joe Schodde, Vice President of Finance at CAH. is means better imaging capabilities and better safeguards for our pa- tients health. e Optima CT660 is a 64-slice scanner and is also among the worlds most en- ergy ecient CT systems, using approximately 60% less energy than the previ- ous scanner. It can also oer more detailed images of pa- tients up to 500 lbs., and, it has faster scan times and a 12-inch display screen that shows relaxing videos or cartoons to increase patient comfort during the exam. Charlevoix Area Hospital Imaging Department pro- vides the highest quality im- ages and technology to northern Michigan in a re- laxed, friendly environment. e CT suite is spacious and calming, with a large visual therapy ceiling mural. e department goal is to pro- vide an environment that is as stress free as possible and imaging technology that is second to none. Highlights included central air conditioning, a paved drive, a wood burning freplace in the main living area that oers a cozy focal point for winter family gath- erings, a screened in porch, even an in-ground sprinkler system. And lets not forget that the shared commu- Question & Answers About Selling Real Estate compliments of Mike Stark, Stark Realty, inc. Refective insula- tion (or radiant barrier) is another insulating product which can help save energy in hot weather. When correctly installed with air sealing, each type of insulation can deliver comfort and lower energy bills during the hottest and coldest times of the year. Insulation performance is meas- ured by R-value its ability to re- sist heat fow. Higher R-values mean more insulating power. Dif- ferent R-values are recommended for walls, attics, basements and crawlspaces. Insulation works best when air is not moving through or around it. So it is very important to seal air leaks before installing insu- lation to ensure that you get the best performance from the insula- tion. To get the biggest savings, the easiest place to add insulation is usually in the attic. A quick way to see if you need more insulation is to look across your uncovered attic foor. If your insulation is level with or below the attic foor joists, you probably need to add more insula- tion. e recommended insulation level for most attics is R-49 (or about 1518 inches, depending on the insulation type).
