By-product gas to energy is the process of creating energy in the form of electricity or heat from the utilization of a gas that is typically flared. Energy recyclingwhich can be undertaken at manufacturing facilities, power plants, and large institutions, such as hospitals and universitiesgenerally increases efficiency, thereby reducing energy costs and greenhouse gases simultaneously. Utilization of by-product gas is noted for its potential to mitigate global warming.

The Problem
While there is tremendous upside potential for power obtained from industrial by-product gases, the challenge has been the low calorific content of these gases. Most contain high levels of hydrogen, raising safety concerns. An environmentally friendly solution is required.

GEs Innovative Solution

In order to utilize these gases in a high efficiency 20-35 MW turbine, GE has developed an aeroderivative LM2500+G4 Industrial Gas Turbine and Package that can run on low energy content gas fuels. This gas turbine and package is able to operate on gases with Aero Gas Classification by Lower Heating Value
