Sec 1 Express Areas for Improvement Only 60% of students obtained a passing grade in literature Your text was The Pearl Observation by marker -most candidates did not read the text. Just read the notes -gave brief answers when question required detailed analysis and depth So for 2012 Your text Clay Marble- a literature book depicting the hardship faced by a young girl during Vietnam War. Some qualities represented are resilience and persistence in the face of adversity

- The Clay Marble Introduction: The story of the Clay Marble, by Minfong Ho, takes place in Cambodia during the late 1970's. A communist group called the Khmer Rouge took control of the country and treated the people with great brutality. People were forced to leave the cities and work as farmers in the fields. They had very little to eat and many were killed for stealing food or trying to escape. Then soldiers from neighbouring Vietnam invaded Cambodia to fight against the Khmer Rouge. - New Normal Academic Through-Train Pathways from 2013 New N(A) Through-Train Pathways From Year 2013 Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic (DES-to-Poly) Programme Starting from the Sec 4N(A) cohort taking the 2012 GCE N-Level examinations, students who obtained an ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 19 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE N-Level examination will be eligible to apply to the DES-to-Poly Programme, provided that the student also obtained the following: EL 4 and MA 4, to be eligible to apply to Applied Sciences, Engineering and Info-Communications Technology Higher Nitec DES programmes. EL 3 and MA 4, to be eligible to apply to Business & Services Higher Nitec DES programmes.

Modular Approach in Secondary One Science 5-day Hwa Chong Institution Science Sabbatical Cluster West 6 Science Enrichment Activities & Competitions involvement in Orchid Hybridization Programme (OHP) conducted by Hwa Chong Institution for selected students from Secondary One Sec One elective programme integrated into the curriculum with focus on inquiry-based and process skills Aeroponics, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Soap-Making, Kitchen Science (Term 1)

Pupils from class 1-1, proud of their product at the end of their Soap-Making Science Elective Programme, conducted by Ms Wendy Tan in Term 1.
