Early Stage 1

Explanation Time 15 minutes The aim of the game is to warm up whilst having bodily movement during dance. Trainer will tell class to start dancing once music starts, once music stops trainer will call out an animal name and then all children will stop and form a position of that animal or letter of the alphabet they can find a partner and form a position together. listens to music and moves body parts to beat, moves safely when sharing confined space with others moves in response to different quality of music, eg loud, strong, soft. Why is this game important for this stage? It is important so they can get a physical warm up throughout their whole body and it enables them to have quick coordination skills. It gives them active listening skills, and they are able to recognise their body movements and articulate their feelings through body movement. Students are able to realise how their body moves to the music. Students get an opportunity to move, learn new techniques and appreciate a range of dancing styles which enables them to move to the beat they like. They can sway, swing, twist, turn, and move isolated parts of the body and also gives them non-locomotor skills. explores ways the body can move to portray various images, eg animals, nature Dance - time and Rhythm Relationships partners Dynamics- smooth and jerky What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? The PDHPE skills involved are: DAES1.7- explores ways the body can move to portray various images, eg animals, nature moves safely when sharing confined space Communicating COES1.1- responds to simple instructions and rules, plays simple response games. They are able to communicate with their peers when choosing how to form the animal/letter of the alphabet Interacting- INES1.3- works happily with class peers, this gives the children an opportunity not only to work individually but co-operatively also. Moving- MOES1.4- stretches and curls the body at levels (high and low) Children are able to move and express their body through movement and formation of alphabet letters and animals.

Equipment and Teaching cues Radio/Stereo Teacher will put on music students start dance when music comes off they stop and form a position. This will repeat 10 times during the 15 minutes

Explanation Duration for the game will be 15 minutes teacher will ask students who would like to be the lion or the lamb. Children will then form a circle there will be one chosen to be the lion the other will be the lamb children who are forming the circle will hold hands with the other students. Trying to stop the lion from entering the den where the lamb is. All students are participating and constantly moving.

Why is this game important for this stage? This game is important for this stage as it is a bit lighter on the younger students the children are able to enjoy the game and are all participating and moving together. Manipulative skills-Trapping Locomotor skills- running/jumping Playing the game- cooperation

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Moving- Children are constantly moving together co-operating with one another Interacting-observes rules regarding group conduct and Develops positive relationships with peers and other people. Communicating- By communicating with one another they are able to keep the lion out and the lamb safe.

Explanation 1. Children will run from one side of the field to the next without being caught by the King. When caught the child becomes a helper of the king which then the child remains in the one spot but can catch people passing too close. 2. At the start the children line up on one side of the room and the King will call out and say lets see if you can cross my border. 3. The children will try to cross the border of the king the children will try to cut across if tagged they are on the team of the king. 4. Each time students run from one side of the field to the next the teacher will call out, hop to the other side of the room then once they have reached the end without being caught teacher will say skip to the other side of the room and so on. 5. Once they reach the other side the chant is called out again until all children are caught or teacher will ask who wants to be king.

Why is this game important for this stage? The game is important for this stage as students are placed with a challenge. They are able to run free as all younger children love and hate being captured. Locomotor Skills running Skipping Hop-point and balancing

Decision Making-considers individual strengths and limitations when allocating group roles, eg team positions Interacting -develops friendships and support networks with a range of people- able to communicate with others on how to avoid the king. But once captured helping the king. Communicating-COS2.1-reports on participation in games and activities to a large group

Equipment and Teaching cues No equipment required Teacher will call when the game should start. And continue changing the way the move to the other side of the room. Once game is finished children are able to stop. This game is be outside on the field

Explanation Students will have a tag around their waist and will try to capture the tags from other students. The person who has the most tags is the winner. Students will run around trying to catch everyone elses tag whilst trying to catch their own in the space provided.

Why is this game important for this stage? The game is important for this stage as the students are challenged to compete with one another. Tag game- enables them to have fun whilst constantly moving. Measures their speed and enables defence and attack Great way to be active

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Interacting-All students are interacting constantly moving and having a good time. Moving- MOS3.4 - transfers sequence of locomotor and nonlocomotor movements from the floor to simple apparatus Problem Solving- GSS3.8- participates in games and sports combining strategy, teamwork, movement skill and fair play

Equipment and Teaching cues A strap around the waist with two tags for each student. Teacher will call out when to start then in ten minutes will say stop.

Part B - INVASION GAMES PROFORMA PDHPE (students are to use one part B proforma for each of the 2 invasion game, one page/game, 1 game S 2 + 1 game S 3 Name of the Invasion Game: Freeze Ball Stage 2-year 3

Explanation Running time 20 minutes The class will be split in two groups the class of 30 students will be broken into a group of 15. The aim of the game is to try to freeze the other group members there will be one ball and if you get touched by that ball you freeze in the one spot. The opposing team which is in control of the ball once they have caught it they cannot move from that spot and must try to freeze someone from the opposing team until all from the opposing team are frozen or Trainer calls out stop then tally is taken. Why is this game important for this stage? The game is important for this stage as it helps everyone communicate with one another. Other team members must communicate with one another and figure out strategies as to how to get the other team out.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? The PDHPE skills involved are throwing, catching, co-ordination, strategies and co-operation. Communication- Students must talk to figure out a strategy on how to freeze all the students. They must constantly be talking to one another throughout the game. Interacting All students interacting and working as a team. Moving- Students are constantly moving and incorporating movement skills and trying to freeze other students

Part B - INVASION GAMES PROFORMA PDHPE (students are to use one part B proforma for each of the 2 invasion game, one page/game, 1 game S 2 + 1 game S 3 Name of the Invasion Game- T-tennis Stage 3

Explanation Running time 30 minutes The class will be split into two groups. One team on the field spread out, where as the other team will be batting. Instead of using a bat it will be a tennis racket and a tennis ball will be thrown in their direction. The player will hit the ball onto the field and the opposing team will try to catch them out on the full. Why is this game important for this stage? The game is important for this stage as students are much older and have better co-ordination and co-operation skills they are all able to participate and have a good time whilst playing sport. PDHPE skills involved are throwing, catching, running, sprinting, batting, co-operation and co-ordination.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Communicating Communicates confidently in a variety of situations with all team members Interacting-INS3.3 Acts in ways that enhance the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations. Decision making- DMS3.2 Makes informed decisions and accepts responsibility for consequences.
