Larry Kolcz (18+ MSL All Stars)

Its a basic business principle: When you recognize a successful formula, you identify why it is successful and you apply it where you want to succeed. In 1997, Larry Kolcz was involved in another adult baseball organization in Chicago when Steve Sigler invited him to bring a team to Arizona for the World Series. His team came, was blown away by the quality organization and personal interest they received, and became an integral part of the national organization. They won that first tournament at Tempe Stadium, left NABA and formed what is now the largest MABL league in the country with 48 teams in Chicago. Larry has since retired from his job with ComEd (the power company) and along with his highly supportive wife Joan, runs the Chicago league that looks like the national MSBL model he learned from Steve and Brian Sigler. They took each element of the successful model and emulated it locally. Their championship games are in a stadium, they have recruited (continued on page 3)

Sunday October 23rd, 2011 Larry Kolcz (continued from page 1) corporate sponsors and give to charity, and they even have championship rings! Larry shared that the Siglers have been much more than baseball friends, they were a great support to him and his family during a period of very difficult personal challenges. He is forever grateful for their kindness and caring. A father of four, Nichole (28), Aaron (21), Justin (18), and Sarah (17), Larry loves having his family attend as many baseball trips and events as possible. Four times his teams have made the championship round, and twice they have won. In 2012, the MSL in Chicago will celebrate its 15th Anniversary, and Larry is eager to be a part of the MSBL Nationals 25th Anniversary as well. Larry recruits and trains local umpires who love the game and understand the focus is on the players, not them. He has them self-assign their schedules on the league website, thus avoiding scheduling fees to a booking agent and insuring they will receive the maximum pay for their work. It is in the details like this that Larry has learned to treat others with great respect, something the Siglers demonstrated and was worth adopting. Larry has always loved the Maryvale Complex, with the best quality auxiliary fields in the valley. He knew Aaron Studebaker, who now runs the new Salt Creek Stadium and took a tour of that facility since arriving this week. He cant wait to play on that Diamondbacks/Rockies state of the art facility now. In 2009, Larry Kolcz was inducted into the MSBL National Hall of Fame. As proud of this honor as he is, and he loves to show everyone his gold glove trophy, it is the lifelong support and friendship with the Sigler family that he and Joan value the most.

MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight on Robert Oskin (Montebello Angels) Its all about friendships. When Robert Oskin takes the field with his buddies, all the guys who play on the local team in his Southern California MSBL league, they know they will be competing with stacked teams who recruit and pay for the best talent they can find. All is fair in tournament competition.no complaints from these guys. Its just that their close relationships mean so much to them, whenever they are fortunate enough to be on defense when that last out is recorded in the championship game, it will be so much more rewarding that they all shared it together. The Montebello community is made up of guys who played high school ball together and have long lasting bonds among families and friends. It seems the only thing that divides them are being Angels or Dodgers fans. So when they are in Arizona, the Angels guys get quite a thrill playing at the Tempe Diablo Complex and the Dodgers guys cant wait to be on the same fields as their MLB heroes. Ray Royball invited Bob to his first World Series six years ago, and now Ray manages the 45+ Montebello Angels and Oskin is in his fifth year leading the 35+ team. As the owner of a real estate agency back home, Robert has the freedom to arrange his schedule around the Arizona tournament schedule, a nice way to plan vacation each year in advance. Robert did experience a championship win last year with Matanzas, but his heart is with the 18, 25, and 35 Montebello teams. They have at least 10 finals apprearances but are still seeking that first on field celebration. Oskin is quick to praise Steve, Brian, and Tom for the great organization and leadership bringing this event together every year. They are most thankful that the strong competition and opportunity to compete provides the ideal venue for great friends to share the game they all love.
