Peopl e are engrossed i n themsel ves. They dont

I get i s bl ank l ooks. I want peopl e to know that
you can do di fferent thi ngs, whacky stuff rather
than the same B.Com or BMS. We shoul d know

I dont thi nk that i t i s a bad i dea to publ i sh facts
about the pol i ti cs and the questi onabl e acti vi ti es
of the BPP as the enti re communi ty can be made
aware about the happeni ngs and the acti vi ti es

what i s happeni ng i nsi de the communi ty. At

Yes, I am very much i nterested i n readi ng about

No, the facts about breach and mi suse of power

I do feel hurt when certai n peopl e who you

break the trust we show i n them.
Arti cl es about mi suse of power do i nterest me

Pol i ti cs i s the subject of my i nterest. I am tryi ng

Of Course, Parsi Ti mes has come out very bol dl y to expose the

anythi ng. Baugs are meant for Parsi s Zoroastrai n but there are
so many Non Parsi s stayi ng i n the Baug and Trustees are not
doi ng anythi ng about i t. Trustees whi l e standi ng for el ecti ons
say we wi l l convert Leave & Li cense i nto Tenancy but once
they get el ected they forget al l about i t.
As a newspaper you have to carry al l news. Press i s an
i ndependent body and you have to gi ve al l facts whether a
parti cul ar news the Trustees wi l l l i ke i t or not. Some peopl e
gi ve adverti sement i n the paper and thi nk nothi ng bad about

Mazenderan, a country of

but thei r cauti on fel l on the deaf

were savages i n many ways
vilhoul any iehnenenl, lul in

were far ahead of the cul tured

l ate i n the day when Kai -Kaus
wi th hi s army neared the ci ty
of Mazenderan. He camped
for the ni ght on the pl ai ns on
the outski rts of the ci ty. He
vas conhdenl of capluiing lhe

the Whi te Demon, Di v-i -Sapi d
who had been summoned by
the ki ng of Mazenderan to hi s

dark smoke and rai ned down
showers of bri cks and stones.
Kai -Kaus and a majori ty of
hi s sol di ers were stuck wi th

Arzang, a Di v l eader
captured Kai -Kaus - bound
hi m and hi s sol di ers i n chai ns
and tri umphantl y marched
them to the ci ty of Mazenderan
and del i vered them to the ki ng
who had them thrown i n the

When the fai thful al l y of
Kai -Kaus, Zal l earnt of the

the greatest pal adi n the worl d

to l i berate Kai -Kaus and hi s

Rustom donned Babre-

steed Raki sh. The ordi nary
route, l ong but safe, whi ch
had been taken by Kai -Kaus
and hi s army. It had taken
them si x l ong months to reach
Mazenderan. Rustom took
a much shorter but tortuous
and extremel y dangerous
route whi ch he was abl e to
traverse i n just two weeks.
He had to pass through Haft
Khan, seven fri ghtful stages
of the journey. He overcame
al l the peri l s on the way.
He destroyed al l the wi l d
creatures, feroci ous beasts and
demons that came hi s way. He
encountered Arzang. He tore
Aoff hi s head from hi s body.
Fi nal l y, at the seventh stage he
came face to face the Sapi d Di v

the whi te demon and dashed
hi m to the ground wi th such a
force that hi s huge body was

Oer him who

hi s pri soned ki ng to free,
Heaven wi l l

And
crown hi s arms wi th vi ctory.
Thi s deadl y combat between
Rustom and the Di v-i -Sapi d
has been depi cted by many
Persi an arti sts and scul ptors.
Vi ctori ous Rustom al so
cured the bl i ndness that had
affected the eyes of Kai -Kaus
and hi s sol di ers by appl yi ng
the bl ood from the heart of the
Whi te Demon to thei r eyes.
Rustom turned the
catastrophi c defeat i nto a
gl ori ous vi ctory for Kai -Kaus.
Encouraged by the vi ctory
the i mpetuous Ki ng Kai -
Kaus l ed an expedi ti on to
Berber whose stubborn and
rebel l i ous ki ng had refused to
pay hi m homage and brought
hi m under subjugati on. Thus,
encouraged by yet another
vi ctory he then l ed hi s army
agai nst Hamavaran (Yemen),
Mi sr (Egypt), and Sham
(Syri a) who had formed an
al l i ed force agai nst hi m. He
defeated them and reduced
them to Submi ssi on. Kai -Kaus
havi ng l earnt that the Shah of
Hamavaran had a beauti ful
daughter Sodaba, asked for
her hand i n marri age. The
Shah very rel uctantl y had to
agree to the uni on and Sodaba
became the Queen consort
of the Irani an monarch. The
Shah of Hamavaran was a
spi teful man. A week after
thei r marri age he i nvi ted Kai
Kaus to be hi s guest. Sodaba
tri ed to di ssuade hi m from
accepti ng the i nvi tati on but to
no avai l . Kai -Kaus accepted
the i nvi tati on and set out to
the ci ty of Shah wi th great
pomp and pageantry for hi s
rendezvous wi th the Shah
of Hamavaran. The Shah of
Hamavaran had conspi red
wi th the refractory Ki ng of
Berber.
Kai -Kaus and hi s reti nue
was wayl ai d, overpowered,
overtaken and i mpri soned
i n an i mpregnabl e fortress
atop of a l ofty mountai n. The
Shah di spatched some of hi s
court l adi es to bri ng back
hi s daughter Sodaba but she
refused to be separated from
her husband and so she was
sent to the dungeon wi th Kai -
Kaus.
The ever ready angi d ever
watchful for any opportuni ty
too l ay hi s greedy hands on
Iran, Afrasi ab l earnt that the
throne of Iran was wi thout
a Ki ng. He col l ected a vast
hoard of Tartars, attacked and
secured for hi msel f the throne
of Iran.
Rustom heard of the
treachery of the Shah of
Hamavaran and the resul ti ng
capture of the Persi an
Ki ngdom by Afrasi ab. He
col l ected hi s troops rushed
across to Hamavaran by the
shoilei sea ioule in a eel of
gal l eys.
The tri pl e forces of
Hamavaran, Berber and Mi sr
were vanqui shed and thei r
chi eftai ns were captured. Ki ng
of Mi sr was cl eft from head to
wai st by just one stroke of the
sharp sword of Zawareh, a
brother of Rustom.
Seei ng the wi despread
havoc wreaked by Rustom
the wi l y Ki ng of Hamavaran
appeal ed for peace and
offered to pay tri bute and free
Kai -Kaus.

S
pi ri tual i ty i s the quest
for our true sel f, deepl y
hi dden behi nd the l ayers
of condi ti oni ng that creates
the personal i ty that we bel i eve
i s oursel ves. Creati vi ty i s the
abi l i ty to make somethi ng out
of nothi ng. Creati vi ty bri ngs
i nto bei ng that whi ch was
not. It coul d be a thought, an
i dea, a poem, a composi ti on,
a rel ati onshi p, a pai nti ng.
The co-rel ati on between the
two terms i s i nnate. Our
true sel f, the sages say, i s
di vi ne, Godl i ke. And what
i s God, i f not creati ve? Al l of
the mani fol d l i fe that we see
around us have sprung out of
the Creator and therefore our
true nature i s whol l y creati ve.
Therefore, the more we rel ease
thi s true or the real nature
of ours by freei ng i t from the
l i mi tati ons of condi ti oni ng or
sel f-i mposed bondages (such
as hatred, pri de, prejudi ces,
bi as, jeal ousl y, greed, etc.),
the greater wi l l be our cl ari ty
of vi si on to understand thi ngs
i n thei r ri ght perspecti ve. In
other words, the more we
percei ve real i ty or truth, the
cl oser we are to creati vi ty.
When your spontanei ty
and ease wi th yoursel f
incieases, you nighl hnd
yoursel f turni ng to art or
l i terature as forms of creati ve
expressi on. You wi l l be
goi ng through expansi ve
states of consci ousness and
new thoughts and i nsi ghts
wi l l spri ng up. You wi l l
understand experi enti al l y the
l aws of l i fe. Some of i ts gl ory
reveal s i tsel f. You real i ze you
have thi ngs to say and show to
the worl d. And you begi n to
create.
Unfortunatel y, our
educati onal system i s such
that i t emphasi zes l earni ng,
l ogi c and memory, at the cost
of creati vi ty and spontanei ty.
We i mbi be negati ve messages
carel essl y uttered by a parent
or a teacher. Whatever
creati vi ty that i s l eft out
of al l thi s soci al i zati on i s
channel i zed and di storted by
our prejudi ces, l i kes, di sl i kes,
needs and bel i ef systems.
Li ttl e wonder that most of us
are profoundl y uncreati ve or
creati ve onl y i n spurts or i n
certai n aspects of our l i ves.
The truth i s that our l i ves
shoul d be a testi mony of our
creati vi ty, bri ngi ng somethi ng
i nto bei ng, whether i t i s an
i nsi ght or an i nventi on, a smi l e
or a poem.
Spi ri tual i ty i ncreases our
awareness. As l ong as we are
pl unged i nto a sel f-centered
pre-occupati on wi th our
thoughts and feel i ngs, we wi l l
never ful l y experi ence l i fe. The
more we free oursel ves from
ti resome baggage of oursel ves,
the freer we are to si mpl y be.
We noti ce so much that was
once obscure. The i ncredi bl e
weal th of Nature reveal s
i tsel f and we noti ce for the
veiy hisl line, lhe avesone
i ntri cacy and desi gn behi nd
lhe neanesl ovei oi liee.
We noti ce peopl e too, and
di scern thei r secret aspi rati ons
and moti vati ons, thei r fears
and hopes, thei r essenti al
human sel ves hi dden behi nd
the masked surfaces that they
wear.
Now our i ntui ti on begi ns
to surface and reveal the
profound secrets of l i fe.
Depth enters i nto us and
enri ches our creati ve jui ces.
Anal ogi es, metaphors and
Spirituality makes us experience life at a
much deeper level. It helps to release the true nature of
ours and frees it from the limitations of conditioning.
All of this is good fodder for our creative growth.
hguies of speech cone easiIy
to us. Everythi ng that we see
i nspi res us.
Another aspect of creati vi ty
i s the abi l i ty to feel . Al l arti sts
are profoundl y emoti onal . It
i s thei r abi l i ty to be touched
and moved by the worl d that
has created the masterpi eces
that are the gl ory of manki nd.
Spi ri tual i ty i s the movement
from the head to the heart.
We become more open to
our feel i ngs and l earn to
experi ence and express them.
As our materi al needs and
desi res drop and we become
more establ i shed i n our own
sel f, we remove the shi el ds
and fronts wi th whi ch we
faced the worl d and become
more vul nerabl e and open to
the worl d around us. Al l of
thi s makes us experi ence l i fe
at a much deeper l evel than
we permi tted oursel ves earl i er
and al l of thi s i s good fodder
for our creati ve growth. There
i s therefore much ecstasy
i nherent i n thei r creati on.
Spi ri tual i ty i s al so the way
to abundant l i fe. The more we
free oursel ves, the smoother
and sliongei is lhe ov of lhe
l i fe force wi thi n us, bri ngi ng
energy and dynami sm i n
i ts wake. We are al i ve and
charged and i n moments of
charged creati vi ty (l i ke sports
and other si mi l ar acti vi ti es),
parti ci pants experi ence a
changed state of consci ousness
i n whi ch the doi ng i s effortl ess.
To concl ude I wi l l say
that spi ri tual i ty cal l s for
reori entati on of the mi nd and
the heart. It i s transformati on
of the sel f to i ts true nature free
from sel f-i mposed bondages.
It i s an endl ess process of
soul s search for Di vi ne
Wi sdom through a seri es of
awakeni ngs to real i ti es. Our
creati ve expressi ons are a
natural corol l ary. Thi s i s a l ong
process extendi ng perhaps to
several i ncarnati ons; but, as
we come cl oser to percei vi ng
real i ty or truth, our creati vi ty
wi l l grow steadi l y and
inhnileIy vilh sinceie and
sustai ned practi ce.
Q. How does such
a naughty boy l i ke
Burzi n grow up to be a
good Dasturj i ?
A. Dear Di kri , the
process that a young
man goes through from
bei ng a young Parsi to
bei ng a ful l y mature Pri est i s not a one day ceremony. It takes
years of l earni ng and wi sdom to grow i nto that rol e.
Burzi n comes from a Pri estl y fami l y. That means at l east one
person. hi s father, grand father, great grandfather or great
great grandfather was a Dasturji . Onl y because of that he too
has the pri vi l ege to become a Pri est. That i s to say at l east 1
Pri est every 5 generati ons keeps a Pri estl y fami l y goi ng.
The hisl slep lovaids leconing a Iiiesl oi vhal ve caII an
Ervad/ Dastoor i s when a boy becomes a Navar. Thi s i s done
at approxi matel y 14 years of age at a ceremony. After studyi ng
hi s prayers and l earni ng under the gui dance of seni or Dasturji s
i n the Athornan or an Agi ary near home, the boys perform
speci al tasks over 29 days. Once thi s i s compl eted they are
ri ghtful l y cal l ed Navars. These ri tual s are very i nteresti ng but
I know that you are exci ted to go buy Di wal i crackers so I wi l l
