Duration: 6 weeks July 2010 August 2010 Job Title: Operations Intern Location: Karachi, Pakistan What were your main duties? (100 words max) I was assigned the task of studying and analysing the companys installations in the country and devise sequencing of the compressors at each installation. After this was done, I used this sequencing to map out Compressor Flow Diagrams which gave a clear picture of the supply chain of gas production. Apart from this, I was responsible for communicating within and outside the office on behalf of my department in case of absence of my supervisor, dealing with issues pertaining to operations on the field installations. I was also asked to review the companys Risk Assessment Strategy. What was your greatest contribution? (50 words max) I successfully re-mapped the companys installation compressors network and presented my work to my supervisor and the departmental head who were very satisfied with it. What key skills have you developed through your work experience? (50 words) This was the first time where I had worked in a professional office-based environment and got the opportunity to sharpen and/or acquire a wide array of skills especially interpersonal, presentation and report-writing skills. I understood the importance of a hierarchy and being patient in dealing with people, asking for help and achieving what you want.

Duration: 6 weeks July 2011 August 2011 Job Title: Process Design Intern Location: Karachi, Pakistan What were your main duties? (100 words max) I worked at the manufacturing plant in the companys operations in Karachi. I was introduced to the Polyurethane production process and was asked to identify hazards and risks in the process that posed a safety threat to the labour at the plant. After careful observation and analysis of the process procedure, I was able to identify the hazards in the process and used my engineering design skills to suggest a couple of solutions to the problem. What was your greatest contribution? (50 words max) The process route I deemed more suitable was approved by the Production Manager of the plant. This improved design not only removed the safety hazards from the process, but also reduced the required number of labour from 3 to just 1 and lead to a 23% reduction in process time.

What key skills have you developed through your work experience? (50 words) I improved my ability to assimilate relevant data from literature and my problem-solving skills. I also built on my teamwork and communication skills as I had to obtain data of the process from various departments and had to share the progress with my supervisor.
