1. Pr epar e t he Si t e
Planning t he proper locat ion and layout of t he Hit achi AMS 2500 st orage unit
is essent ial for it s successful operat ion. The sit e where you inst all t he
st orage unit can affect it s performance. For example, equipment placed t oo
close t oget her or in an inadequat ely vent ilat ed area can cause over-
t emperat ure condit ions. I n addit ion, poor equipment placement can make
t he rear panel inaccessible.
To ensure normal operat ion and avoid unnecessary maint enance, plan your
sit e configurat ion and prepare your sit e before inst allat ion. The sit e you
choose for t he Hit achi AMS 2500 st orage unit should:
Be fairly cool and dry for t he accept able t emperat ure and humidit y
ranges:
Maximum t emperat ure: 104 F ( 40 C)
Relat ive humidit y ( non- condensing) : 8% t o 80%
Be free of st rong elect romagnet ic field generat ors ( such as mot ors) ,
vibrat ion, dust , and direct exposure t o sunlight .
Provide a st urdy, level surface t hat can support t he unit . A fully
populat ed unit weighs approximat ely 4,686 lbs. ( 2, 130 kg. ) .
Be wit hin six feet ( 1. 82 met ers) of a power out let .
Allow for at least six inches ( 152. 3 mm) of space at t he front and back
of t he array for vent ilat ion.
Not place t he unit next t o, on t op off, or below any device t hat
generat es heat or will block t he fee flow of air t hrough t he unit s
vent ilat ion slot s.
Figure 1- 1 on page 1- 4 shows t he inst allat ion and service clearance area for
t he Hit achi AMS 2500. Measurement s shown are in millimet ers. For more
