Block 1B AAW Improvement Raytheon
EO ANGLE TRACK

• EO angle track data is inherently more accurate In both elevation and

azimuth than the track radar and mitigates the elevation track fluctuations
caused by “multipath” when tracking sea-skimming missiles

• The Phalanx system must first acquire and track the target with the radar,
then transition to using the EO subsystem’s angular data. Target range
will always be provided by the track radar.

Phalanx Radar Contributions Raytheon

• Low Frequency Radars

– Suffer In The low-e region from ducting and multipath
– Minimum range limits close-in target engagements
– Suppress target returns due to land clutter fold over
(Land clutter folds into target cells, raises detection threshold)
• The Phalanx High Frequency (Ku Band) Search Radar Provides:
– Low-E detection performance To support missile engagements
– High data rate target tracks
– Close-in target tracking To support gun Or missile engagements
– Target detection in land clutter environment
