Nurse Volunteer Job Description

Areas Assigned: OPD, ER, OB/DR, General Ward Broad Functions: Under immediate supervision, administers nursing care to patients in her unit; implements hospital policies, rules and regulations; participates in training and research; performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time. Specific Tasks and Duties: I. Major 1. Administers general nursing care to patients in the assigned area utilizing the nursing process. Monitors and assesses patients condition thru regular patient rounds. Including IV site/line, surgical/trauma wound, urinary catheters, and NG tubes. Record patients medical information and vital signs. Prepare patients for, and assist with examination and treatments. Carries out admission, discharge and transfer procedures. Records and reports conditions and progress of patients under her care. Prepares and administers oral medications, IM and subcutaneous injections and other treatments as indicated. Educate patients and their families on disease processes and aspect of therapeutic regimens including medication and pain management techniques. Observe aseptic procedures and provide care in accordance with universal precautions especially on surgical/trauma wound care and debriding, intake and output. Provides psychological and spiritual care to patients and relatives. 2. Gives proper endorsement to the incoming shift. 3. Coordinates with different support services through proper channels. 4. Maintains confidentiality of records and other informations regarding patient or her case. 5. Participates in meetings, staff development programs and research. II. Minor 1. Implements hospital policies, rules and regulations. 2. Supervises the performance of non-professionals in her unit. 3. Sees to the maintenance and safekeeping of equipments and hospital supplies in her unit.
