Keron Jones-Fraser Reflective piece #1 Community service or volunteerism is where one gives of one self and time to a cause or to the less fortunate without monetary compensation. Community service or volunteerism is a way to give back to the community. Which help to better the lives of the people we help and thus building better communities; helping others gives the volunteers a certain sense of gratification knowing that they helped to promotes team spirit, help with the achievement of cohesiveness within a community; thus this help to build up the characters of the volunteers. Volunteerism means helping others who are less fortunate; while helping the volunteers to realize how fortunate they are to have what they have and not needing basis amenities or the use of a body part and not to have it. It humbles one. Volunteerism means giving back in the hope that it makes a difference in someone elses life no matter how small. Being a volunteer helps to build our morals and our ability to work with others. Volunteerism gives us a sense of worth in life not to always to focus on one wants but to actually loose ourselves for others by improving and helping others. In that volunteerism should not be the channel motives that portray a form of reward or any form of motives for one self but for the gratification in just helping others and seeing them happy. In the article Vision 2030 Jamaica, National Development plan there are four goals which the country is seeking to achieve by 2030; they are Jamaicans are empowered to achieve their fullest

potential, The Jamaican society is secure, cohesive and just, Jamaican economy is prosperous and Jamaica has a healthy natural environment. Of these four goals the two which are most closely linked to community service and volunteerism are the first which states that Jamaican are empowered to achieve their fullest potential and the forth, Jamaica has a healthy natural environment. These two are most closely linked to community service and volunteerism because of the national out comes. These two goals are potentially designed to go into the little nooks and crannies of our communities therefore it would enable us as volunteers to go in and get firsthand experience at helping to achieve this goal and it is also more readily available for volunteers to help. Some of the outcomes for the first goal that Jamaicans should be empowered to achieve the fullest potential include, volunteering at hospitals, senior citizens homes, and homes for children with disabilities etc, within your communities and also we could volunteer to perform free HIV, diabetes and hypertension testing within and around the community. This would help with the national outcome of a good health status within the country. Also volunteers in the communities could help with the education system by place home work centers in the communities. This could help with the development of the education system also free computer classes for everyone would help with people becoming more literate within a technology generated world and therefore more marketable; which would help to improve the well being of the citizens within that community and therefore the entire country.
