RESEARCH PLAN A. Objectives of the Study


(List the broad, long-term objectives and describe concisely and realistically what the specific research described in your proposal is intended to accomplish, and the hypothesis to be tested.) The study aims to t o c o m p a r e t h e p r e v a l e n c e o f m a l n u t r i t i o n a m o n g s t r e e t c h i l d r e n and institutionalized children in orphanages located in Paco, Manila for the year 2011. This study will assume to correlate if the absence or presence of biological parents affects the frequency of m a l n u t r i t i o n a m o n g s t r e e t c h i l d r e n a n d i n s t i t u t i o n a l i z e d c h i l d r e n i n orphanages. Hypothesis: ________________________________________________________

Intended Respondents
(Describe the characteristics of the subject population, include the anticipated number of normal volunteers, age ranges, sex, ethnic background, and health status. Identify the criteria for inclusion or exclusion (especially women and/or minorities). Explain the rationale for the use of special classes of subjects, such as fetuses, pregnant women, or others who are likely to be vulnerable, especially those whose ability to give voluntary informed consent may be questionable.) The respondents of the study comp[rise a total of _____ children from Associacion de Damas Filipinas, Inc. Settlement Homes in Paco, Manila and _____ children from the street of Paco. Inclusion criteria are as follows (1) is a Filipino citizen, (2) ages 6-10 years old, (3) has stayed in the orphanage for atleast 6 months. And for the street children (1) works on the street with a shelter to go to at the end of the day (Children on the Street) and/or works on the street without a shelter to go to at the end of the day (Children of the Street), (2) within 3 km radius of the named orphanage, (3)ages -10 years old. Exclusion criteria for both group of respondents include, the child has pre-existing and/or an illness during the selection, has no consent from the parent or the guardian, as well as the childconsent if 7 years and above.

C.

Possible benefit, if any, to participant/respondent


The execution of the study will benefit government health workers, social workers, workers in the institutions and parents in identifying some probable cause that could elicit malnutrition among children. This study will also benefit respondents by giving helpful and exyensive information that would increase their awareness regarding their situation and the disease.

E. Statement of possibility of respondents withdrawal without untoward consequences
Since the study will employ on children as respondents, consent from parents or guardian will be needed. Some of the possibilities of withdrawal without untoward consequences are as follows, for children on the streets: (1) parents or guardians apprehension toward the researchers, therefore, rapport should be performed. (2) childrens being mischievous, since they spend most of their time on the busy streets of Paco. For children on the institution, possible withdrawal will stem out from (1) schedule of important activities in the orphanage that chosen children couldnt let pass and (2) inadvertent illness such as fever, chicken pox, measles on the day of the research.

Nature of participation, duration, possible inconvenience


1. Describe any financial or other conflicts of interest as indicated. Any interests of the investigators or provider institutions in the outcome of the research, the study product, or the sponsoring entities, any support received by the researchers or provider institutions from same in excess of $10,000 per year, and any other relationship to the sponsor or the research that could be material to any subject. Where such interests exist, describe the disclosures that will be made to subjects in the consent process and consent documents and discuss the factors considered in selecting the appropriate disclosures. Consult 2.3 of the Manual for a discussion of materiality and appropriate disclosure to subjects, including disclosure of sponsor identity and source of funding where potentially material to subjects. Review the Financial Interest Disclosure form submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure that it is current and consistent with the Application disclosure.

Maintenance of anonymity of participant


Name of participants will be kept uphold to researchers and the school only for maintenance of anonymity. Information will not be use for any other dissertation or investigation not relevant to this study.
