roviding start-up capital for womens weaving businesses breaks the cycle of indentured weaving for middlemen, enabling women to finance their own businesses and reap fair profits that benefit their children and families. a donation to a livelihood project through Cambodian methodist Women will help start a business by giving one woman the funds she needs to get going to purchase a ream of silk thread or bundle of bamboo. And unlike similar microfinance ventures, women who receive money from CmW do not pay back their loans to the agency, but rather to the community, by passing on their skills and making contributions to other womens businesses. in this way, entire villages can rise out of poverty through just one donation. but the advantages dont stop there. Women who supplement their familys income through silk or basketweaving open doors of opportunity that would otherwise be closed to their children. money earned in weaving is often enough to send children to school especially girls, who are typically the first to be pulled out of school when money runs low. and in this way, your gift will empower multiple generations of women.
