Mechanical Engineering Abstract: In the current scenario that prevails in India, a new method of generation o f electricity from renewable sources and in non-polluting process is in high con cern. In the current situation, thermal, nuclear and natural gas are all used to g enerate electricity. But all these processes are renewable sources and environme nt polluting processes. This presentation deals with a method of generation of electricity that is no n-polluting and which can be installed anywhere. This method is not season depen dent as like Wind mills and solar cells. Generation of electricity through speed breakers in road is discussed. In this m ethod a DC Generator is used, which contains a rotor and a stator windings. Roto r consists of a magnet which is connected to the shaft. Shaft is subjected to ro tary motion which induces the rotor to rotate. So the magnet also rotates which results in the rotating magnetic field. Stator consists of copper wires (coils) or windings. On subjection to the rotating magnetic field, Electro Motiv e Force (E.M.F) is induced in the stator windings resulting in the generation of electricity. The rotary motion to the shaft is produced by four different methods. They are R oller Mechanism, Rack and pinion Mechanism, Hybrid Mechanism and the method usin g Air Bags. Roller Mechanism uses a gear which is directly connected to shaft. R ack and pinion mechanism uses a rack and pinion gear. That gear may be simple or it may be multiple ones.. In the hybrid type of generation of electricity, we u se crank shaft, hydraulic system and then piezo electric crystal combine to prod uce more amount of electricity. In this method, vehicle while travelling on a sp eed breaker it compresses a rectangular bar. That rectangular bar is connected t o a hydraulic cylinder piston and to a piezo electric crystal arrangement and th en to a crank shaft mechanism. Piezo electric crystal has a property which produces a potential difference on e ither side of a crystal on applying a stress over it. So in this hybrid method o f generating the electricity, we need more number of DC Generators so as a resul t more electricity is generated as one vehicle passes over speed breaker once. T he fourth method we discuss in the modern method of generation of electricity is by using the air bags. As the vehicle passes over the speed breaker due to its weight, it compresses the air bag so that air forces out of a nozzle at high pre ssure. It is direct to the impeller wings so that it rotates. As a result of it the shaft which is fitted to it also rotates. The shaft which is connected to a DC Generator generates electricity. The one of the advantage of it, this in not only used in road. We can imply this method in pedestrian ways, so that the kin etic energy of human is converted into electrical energy. This method of generation of electricity is never hazardous to the environmen t and renewable. Also the costs of implementation of these processes are compara tively much lesser than that of solar, thermal and nuclear power generation. But also limitations are also there in these processes. Huge amount of electricity is not possible to generate. Only for minor generation which can be used to supp ly for street lights is possible.
