Applications are invited in prescribed form from eligible candidates for the post of A.S.I. Operator/Mechanic in Orissa Police Signals Establishment in the scale of pay of Rs.5,20020,200/- with Grade Pay of Rs.2400/in response to their requisition vide letter No.49245/Board dt.24.11.10. The applications should reach the Commission by 15.11.2011. 2. Name of the post ASI Mechanic

i)

Out of the above vacancies, for the post of ASI (Operator) only, two vacancies are earmarked for Sports persons and six vacancies for Ex-Servicemen. For the post of ASI (Mechanic) one vacancy for Ex-SM is reserved. ii) The number of vacancies and reservation position is subject to change as per reservation policy and Rules prevalent at the time of short listing and publication of result. iii) Only one application is to be submitted by each applicant. However, applicants are required to exercise their option/choice of post in order of preference.

There shall be a combined recruitment examination for both the posts for which candidates are advised to apply in single application (OMR form) only. However, the candidate has to exercise his/her choice/option for the post in order of preference in the Colum-8 of the OMR application form and write the abbreviated name of the post and post code as above in the appropriate column. The option exercised in the application shall be final and based on merit. 4. Educational qualification +2 Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised Council/Board Desirable qualification: ITI/Diploma holders in Radio/Electrical/Telecommunication/Electronics/Computer/Instrumentation from recognised Institution. NB: 1. Candidates with higher educational/technical qualification will be entertained.
2. Preference will be given to the candidates having ITI/Diploma in above trades with 2 years practical experience in any of the trade mentioned above. 3. The in-service constables may also apply for the post, if otherwise eligible.

5. Age limit The candidate must have completed 20 years of age as on 1.1.2011. The upper age limit of the candidates is 25 years as on 1.1.2011. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SEBC, SC, ST and Women candidates and by the total period of service rendered in defence services in case of Ex-Servicemen as per rules. However, a candidate can avail only one type of age relaxation. 6. General eligibility A candidate must be (a) a citizen of India, (b) of good moral character, (c) of sound health, good physique and free from any organic defect or bodily infirmity (not applicable in case of P.H. candidates), (d) must not have more than one spouse living, (e) should have (i) passed middle School Examination with Oriya as language subject or (ii) passed HSC or equivalent examination with Oriya as medium of examination in nonlanguage subjects or (iii) passed in Oriya as language subject in the final examination of class VIII and above or (iv) passed a test in Oriya in M.E. School standard conducted by the Education Department of the State Govt, and (f) must not have been debarred from appearing in any other competitive examination for holding Govt. service as ordered by the competent authority. 7. Application form Candidates should apply in the prescribed OMR application form available in the all Collectorates and in the offices of the Additional District Magistrate, Bhubaneswar & Rourkela and Sub-Collector, Berhampur & Jeypore on payment of Rs.30/- (Rupees thirty) only in shape of Treasury Chalan under the Head of Account 0051-P.S.C-104-UPSC/SSC-Examination Fees-0047-Fees collected for conducting Examination02041-Examination Fees Applications other than in the prescribed form will be rejected. 8. Examination fees The candidates other than SC/ST are required to deposit Rs.100/- (Rupees one hundred) only towards examination fees in shape of Treasury Chalan under Head of Account mentioned at para-7 above. The candidates are required to submit the original treasury chalan along with the filled in application form. 9. Documents to be attached Candidates are required to send the following documents with the application form: a) Treasury chalan in original in support of deposit of Examination Fee of Rs.100/-only (except SC/ST candidates) b) One recent colour photograph (3.5x4.5cm size) without any writing should be pasted on the application form at the space provided. Another photograph duly attested by a gazetted officer should also be enclosed. c) Postage stamp worth Rs.6/- and Rs.5/- respectively to be affixed on the acknowledgement card and admission letter (window envelope) supplied with the application form. The candidate is required to write his/her mailing address on the acknowledgement card with PIN CODE. d) Self attested copies of certificates and mark sheets from H.S.C. onwards and certificates of technical qualification and experience certificate, if any. e) Self attested up-to-date caste certificate for employment purpose issued by competent authority, if belongs to SC/ST/SEBC. f) In case of Ex-servicemen, a self attested copy of identity card and the document indicating the period of service rendered in armed forces. They are also required to attach non-employment certificate availing the facilities as Ex-Serviceman. 10. Place and date of written examination The written examination may tentatively be held during the month of December2011. Final date/time/venue of the examination will be intimated to the eligible candidates in due course. 11. Plan & Pattern of Examination There shall be a combined recruitment for both the posts of ASIO and ASIM and shall consist of the following stages. The examination for the post of ASI Operator/Mechanic shall consist of the following stages: 1. Preliminary Examination on General Awareness-100 marks (qualifying only) of 1 hours duration

Main written examination: (a) General English (OMR system) - 1-1/2 hours duration (b) Oriya Language (c) General Knowledge(OMR system)1 -1/2 hours duration (d) General Science with Mathematics (OMR system) The questions shall be of + 2 Standard. 3. Physical test and measurement Qualifying only 4. Trade test (qualifying only) 100 marks 5. Viva-voce test Total 50 marks 50 marks 50 marks 50 marks

The candidates qualifying in the physical standard measurement test shall appear at the trade test. The candidates qualified in the trade test only shall be called to appear in the viva-voce test and final merit list shall be prepared basing on the marks secured in the main written examination and viva-voce test category wise. 12. Preliminary Examination The preliminary examination will be of 100 marks on General Awareness with multiple choices of answers to be answered within one and half hour. The questions will cover different fields of knowledge such as General Science, current events, socio economic and political situation, history, geography etc. including English grammar and arithmetic of HSC standard. The answer scripts will be in OMR form. This examination will be a screening test, qualifying in nature, to short-list candidates for main examination. Candidates numbering about 20 times the number of vacancies in each category shall be called for appearing the main written examination, basing on their performance in this examination. Marks obtained in preliminary examination will not be counted for the final merit list. There shall be negative marking @ 0.25 for each wrong answer. There shall be no deduction of marks for not attempting any question. However, if required, the Commission may dispense with preliminary examination, depending on the number of applications received. 13. Main Examination There shall be written examination on language paper of 100 marks of English language-50 marks and Oriya language 50 marks. The question in this paper will be of objective type with multiple choice of answer covering vocabulary, Grammar, composition, usage etc in OMR system. There shall be another paper of 100 marks i.e. on General Knowledge-50 marks, Science & Mathematices50 marks. General Studies: The questions shall be of objective type with multiple choices of answers in OMR system. The questions will cover the fields of knowledge on World & Indian Geography with special reference to Geography of Orissa, Indian polity & economy Human Rights, General Science including information technology, test of reasoning numerical ability and Arithmetic (HSC standard) arithmetics of Ratio and Proportion, Partnership, Percentage, Time & Work, Profit & Loss, Rate & Taxes, Time & Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Mental Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude etc. Physical standard measurement Category General/SEBC Men General/SEBC Women SC/ST Men SC/ST Women

Physical test: Candidates retaining qualifying marks as may be fixed at the discretion of the Commission and topping within about 5 times for men candidates and 7 times for Women candidates for the vacancies against each category may be called for Physical test. The Physical test shall consist of the following:

Men:

(a) Running 1 mile in 8 minutes (b) Cycling 1 mile in 5 minutes (c) Low Hurdles in 26 height, 100 meters with 10 flights in 25 seconds. (d) Broad Jump 12 feet length (a) Running 1 mile in 10 minutes (b) Cycling 1 mile in 7 minutes (c) 80 meters low hurdles in 30 seconds. (d) Broad Jump 10 feet length

Women:

The physical test shall be of qualifying standard only. The Commission will not be held responsible nor accept any liability for the safety of the candidates during the physical test. The date, time and place of physical test shall be intimated by the Commission in due course. Trade test: The candidates qualified in the physical measurement and test shall be called upon to appear the trade test to be conducted by Trade Testing Board to be constituted by the Commission. The test will be qualifying in nature and the decision of the Board shall be final and binding. The standard of the trade test shall be fixed by the Board itself. 14. Viva-voce test There shall be viva-voce test for 20 marks. Candidates numbering 3 times of the vacancies (category wise) on the basis of performance in the main written examination in order of merit will be called for to appear the viva-voce test. 15. Select list The final select list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the main written examination and vivavoce test taken together. 16. IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates are advised to read carefully the instructions contained in this advertisement and application form before filling up the form.
