COURSE SYLLABUS POLSCI 101 Philippine History with Government and Constitution This course focuses on the historical

evolution of Philippine system of governance, which covers the pre-Spanish Filipino society, the Spanish colonial period, the American occupation and the post-World War II era. Integrated in the content of this course are the impacts and consequences of the historical evolution of the Philippine system of governance to the political, social, cultural and economic awareness of Filipinos who lived in the respective timelines mentioned. At the end of the course, the students are expected to: 1. Enumerate the significant highlights of the historical evolution of Philippine system of governance from pre-Spanish period to the present. 2. Compare and contrast the nature and characteristics of the types and natures of governments in the history of the Philippines. 3. Analyze and criticize the impacts and consequences of the historical evolution of the Philippine system of governance to the political, social, cultural and economic awareness of Filipinos. 4. Be introduced to the historical approach in analyzing a certain Philippine political problem or phenomenon. Methods of Teachings: 1. Lecture-Discussion 2. Class Reporting 3. Class Debates 4. Film / Documentary Analysis Class Requirements: 1. Critique of a political documentary video. Enrichment Activity: 1. Educational Tour / Field Exposure to Malacanang Museum, Congress (Senate or House of Representatives), National Penitentiary and the Supreme Court Grade Computation / Distribution 50% - Term Examinations (three written term examinations for the entire duration of the course) 30% - Quizzes (oral recitations, debates and other class activities done inside the classroom and within class period are categorized as quizzes) 20% - Assignments / home works (include term papers, article clippings, reaction papers and any other project done outside the classroom and outside class schedule) TOTAL 100 % Passing percentage 50%
