Digital Line Unit
1. Introduction
Subscriber lines and PBX lines in EWSD are connected to digital line
units (DLU).

The DLUs can be operated locally in an exchange or remotely .

The DLUs are connected to the Switching Network via LTG(B-Iunction).
A remote DLU is connected to an LTG by 2 Mbps Primary Digital Carriers (PDC).
However, the local DLUs ( the DLUs located in the main exchange ) are connected
to the LTG(B) by 4 Mbps carriers.

For security reasons, a DLU is connected to two LTGs. A subset oI
CCS#7 according to CCITT is used Ior signaling between a DLU and the Group
Processor (GP) in the two LTGs.

Remote DLUs are installed in the vicinity oI groups oI subscribers. The
resultant short subscriber lines and the Ilexible concentration oI subscriber
traIIic to the exchange onto digital transmission links makes Ior an economical
subscriber line network with optimum transmission quality.

The Iollowing were diIIerent types oI DLU rack:

S.No. Type oI DLU rack H/W Version oI EWSD
1. R:DLU A Ver. 6.2W
2. R:DLU B Ver. 9
3. R.DLU D Ver. 11 and Ver 13

The Iollowing are the important DLU Ieatures :

O Connection capacity oI a single : up to 952 ordinary analog subscriber
lines in DLUA rack ( local )
(depending on type oI subscriber line (analog ordinary /
analog with home metering/ISDN),Iunctional units
provided and required traIIic values.)
O TraIIic handling capacity : up to 100 Erlangs
O Connectivity : Analog subscriber lines with
- rotary / DTMF dialing
- call charge indication with 16 / 12 kHz
as well as access lines Ior

to LTG G / M or N can be realised via two 4096-kbps multiplex lines.
Maximum number oI channels available Ior transmission oI user inIormation
between a DLU and two LTGs is 120.
O Common channel signalling (CCS) between the remote DLU and the
LTGs. TS16 on PDC0 and PDC2 used Ior this purpose.
O High operating reliability
- due to the connection oI the DLU to two LTGs
- duplication and load sharing oI DLU modules handling central
Iunctions ( DLU system 0 and 1)
- continuous selI-tests
O Full availability between the connected subscriber lines and the channels to
the exchange
O All EWSD Ieatures, regardless oI whether the DLU is operated locally or
remotely.
O Almost identical equipment in all DLUs, both Ior local and remote
operation.
O Integrated test unit (TU) Ior automatic and manual testing oI subscriber line
circuits, subscriber lines and analog telephone sets
O Remote DLU emergency operation (in the event oI total Iailure oI the
transmission routes to the main exchange)
O Remote control unit (RCU, Sec. 3) used Ior remote operation and consisting
oI upto six remote DLUs. Each R-DLU oI the remote cluster has an
SASC or SASC-E module ( Stand-alone Service Controller) Ior emergency
operation.

1.1 Overview : DLU HW 1ypes

Since the Iirst issue oI a DLU the Irame and rack hardware was redesigned
several times in order to optimize the DLU HW concerning the required size and
the number oI connected subscriber lines.

DLU A :

This is the oldest DLU HW type. It contains SLM modules with max. 8
subscriber circuits (e.g. SLMA : COS or SLMDB). It may also contains SLM
modules with max. 6 home metering / reversal subscriber circuits (e.g. SLMA :
CMRL. One Iully equipped DLU A is housed in one rack R : DLU. A maximum
oI 952 analog or 928 digital subscribers with a traIIic volume oI 0.1 ERL each can
be connected to a DLU A. One DLU A can consist oI:

O 1 Irame F:DLU (A)
O 0,1,2 or 3 Irames F:DLU(B) depending on the number and the traIIic volume oI
the subscribers

DLU B :
This is the DLU HW type used in most EWSD switches. It contains SLM
modules with max. 16 subscriber circuits (e.g. SLMA:FPE or SLMD:QFB). Two
Iully equipped DLUBs are housed in one rack R:DLUB. A maximum oI 1760
analog or 1536 digital subscribers with a traIIic volume oI 0.1 ERL each can be
connected to a rack R:DLUB. One DLU B can consist oI:

O 1 Irame F:DLU(D)
O 0 or 1 Irame F:DLU(E) depending on the number and the traIIic volume oI the
subscribers.

DLU D ( also called DLU B type D) :

This was the latest DLU HW type. The main diIIerence to the DLUB is a
new more integrated solution Ior the central parts oI the DLU. This oIIers
mounting locations Ior 4 additional SLMA:FPE modules to connect one remote
DLU to EWSD. One DLU D can consist oI :

O 1 Irame F : DLU(G)

O 0 or 1 Irame F:DLU(E) depending on the number and the traIIic volume oI the
subscribers.

. Structure of DLU A / DLU B / DLU D

In the majority oI cases, the modules belonging to a DLU are arranged in
module frames with two rows of modules. Module Irames with one row oI modules
are only used in 2130-mm racks. In the DLU a row of modules in a module frame
is termed as a shelf. A shelI is subdivided into a leIt-hand and a right-hand halI-
shelI (as seen Irom the module side oI the module Irame).

To understand the architecture oI the DLU, the DLU structure will be
discussed in the Iollowing sequence:

O DLU system comprising oI central cards,
O Ringing & Metering Voltage Generation,
O Bus system comprising oI
- Control Network Ior processors
- 4096-kbits/s network Ior speech signals
#inging and metering bus etc
O !eripheral cards which include Line cards and Test cards,
O DCCs, i.e., Direct Current Converters
2.1. DLU System

A DLU system in DLUA or DLUB contains the Iollowing Iunctional units:

(a) a control Ior digital line unit (DLUC),
(b) a digital interIace unit Ior DLU (DIUD), DLUS in R:DLUD
(c) a clock generator (..CG) &
(d) two bus distributor modules (BD..).

A DLU system is a failure unit which is duplicated in the DLU.
Both DLU systems are housed together in a module Irame .
O The DLU system (DLUC0, DIUD0, BDCG0 and BDB 0) are
contained in the upper shelI (shelI 0) oI the module Irame A oI
DLUA and the DLU system 1 (DLUC1, DIUD1, BDCG1 and
BDB 1) are contained in the lower shelI (shelI 1) oI the module

contained in the upper shelI-right halI (shelI 0) oI the module
Irame G oI R:DLUD
The Iunctional units DLUC, DIUD and ..CG are also
reIerred to as central units. II a Iault occurs in a central Iunctional
unit oI one oI the DLU systems, normal call handling is still
possible via the other DLU system..

DLU Controller (DLUC)

For security reasons and to increase throughput, there are two DLUCs in
the DLU. They work independently in a task sharing mode. II one DLUC Iails,
the second DLUC can continues to handle the tasks alone.

The DLUC controls the sequence oI DLU-internal Iunctions and either
distributes or concentrates the signaling between the subscriber line circuits and
the DLUC. The DLU-internal control network connects the DLUC with the
shelves. All Iunctional units equipped with their own microprocessors are
addressed through this control network.

The units are polled cyclically by DLUC Ior messages ready to be sent, and
are accessed directly Ior the transIer oI commands and data Irom DLUC.

The DLUC carries out test and supervision routines to detect errors.

LEDs on the DLUC indicate the operating mode & the status oI the PDCs.
OI course LEDs on DLUC and DLUS have diIIerent names.

Digital Interface Unit (DIUD) for DLUA / DLUB

The DIUD has two interIaces Ior the connection oI two PCM30 multiplex
lines (PDCs) connecting the DLU with the LTG. Either balanced or coaxial cables
can be connected. A total oI 128 channel pairs are available between the SLCAs
and the DIUDs :
- 120 channels Ior the transmission oI user inIormation.
- 8 channels Ior transmission oI tones Ior routine loop tests as well as
audible tones during emergency service.
The Iollowing are the important Iunctions oI DIUD :
1. Takes the control inIormation arriving Irom the LTG Irom channel 16, oI a
PDC (DIUD0 takes the control inIormation Irom PDC0 and DIUD1 Irom
PDC2). The DIUD Iorwards the incoming control inIormation Irom this LTG
to the partner DLUC ( i.e., the DLUC belonging to the same DLU system as
that oI the DIUD ). In the opposite direction the inIormation coming Irom
partner DLUC is inserted in channel 16 oI the same PDC and transmitted to
the LTG.
2. Provides the interIaces to a DLU-internal 4096-kbit/s network to the
individual shelves. The user inIormation is distributed to and Irom the SLM
modules via this 4096-kbit/s network.
3. Derives a signal Ior synchronization oI the clock generator Irom the line
clock oI the PDC.
4. PerIorms test and supervisory routines and detects any occurring errors.
5. The channel contents oI the PDC with CCS are Iorwarded to the even-
numbered channels oI the 4096-kbit/s network, the channel contents oI the
PDC without CCS to the odd channels. (ReIer Fig. 6).
6. A test loop is switched via the DIUD Ior the cross oIIice check (COC)
conducted by the LTG.
7. LEDs in the module Iaceplate indicate the operating mode oI the DIUD and
the PDCs.
Digital Interface Unit for Local DLU Interface, module D (DIU : LDID)

Usually the local DLU is connected to the LTG via a single 4 Mbps
interIace having 64 time-slots instead oI 2 independent PDCs.
For connecting a local DLU to LTG(B), the interIace in the DLU is
DIU:LDID in place oI DIUD. The DIU:LDID has 4096-kbit/s interIace. For
such a connection a balanced copper line is used. The DIU:LDID handles the
EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 13/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
transmission oI the contents oI 60 user channels and a control inIormation
channel via a single 4-Mbps multiplex line (instead oI via two PDCs). The main
tasks oI the DIU:LDID are similar to those oI the DIUD except TS32 is used
instead oI TS16 Ior signaling between DLU and LTG.

Bus distributor module with clock generator (BDCG) for DLUA

The clock generator (..CG) generates the system clock oI 4096-kHz
required by the DLU and the associated Irame synchronization pulse. For security
reasons the clock generator is also duplicated. The two clock generators work
according to the master-slave principle. Under normal operating conditions the
clock generator designated as the master is active while the slave generator is in
standby mode.
The master supplies both DLU system with clock signals. II the master
Iails, the system switches over to the slave generator which then supplies both
DLU systems with clock signals.
The clock generator receives a synchronizing signal Irom the DIUD in the
same shelI; the DIUD derives this signal Irom the line clock oI the related PDC.
The Iunctions oI the bus distributor (BD..) are described in the Iollowing
sections on 'Ringing & Metering Voltage Generator' and 'Bus System' .

Group clock generator (GCG) for DLUB

2.2 Ringing & metering voltage generator (RGMG) in DLUA

The ringing and metering voltage generator (RGMG) generates the
sinusoidal ringing and metering voltages required in the DLU Ior analog
subscribers, as well as a synchronizing signal Ior ringing the subscribers.
Several diIIerent Irequencies can be set Ior the ringing voltage by means
oI switches. Another switch allows two diIIerent voltages to be set Ior each
Irequency selected.
Two diIIerent Irequencies (12 or 16 kHz) can be set Ior metering voltage
by means oI a switch. The metering voltage cannot be changed.
The ringing and metering ac voltage are monitored Ior under-voltage. II
the voltage drops below the minimum value permitted, an alarm is signaled.
Each BD... unit can switch over to another RGMG which then supplies the entire
DLU with ringing and metering voltage.
EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 14/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
From each RGMG, a ring bus system is used Ior the distribution oI ringing
and metering voltage.
RGMG0 supplies ringing and metering voltage to all the mounting
locations Ior SLMs in the leIt-hand halI-shelves (SLM0...7) through the ring bus
system 0 and the BD.. units in these halI-shelves. RGMG1 supplies ringing and
metering voltage to all the mounting locations Ior SLMs in the right-hand halI-
shelves (SLM8..15), through the ring bus system 1 and BD... units in these halI-
shelves during normal operation. II a Iault occurs in one oI the RGMGs, the other
RGMG takes over the entire load.
The ringing voltage is Ied to the BD.. units over a short-circuit saIety
circuit and is distributed un-ampliIied to the SLM mounting locations in the
relevant halI-shelI.
The metering voltage is Iorwarded to an ampliIier with balanced high-
impedance input in the BD.. units and distributed unbalanced and with low
impedance in the relevant halI-shelI.

2.3 BUS SYSTEM

InIormation is exchanged in the DLU via a duplicated bus system . The
exchange oI inIormation between the DLU system 0 and the peripheral units takes
place via bus system 0, between the DLU system 1 and the peripheral units via bus
system 1 respectively. Each bus system includes a control network and a 4096-
kbit/s network.

Control network ( For communication between DLUC and the
processors of the peripheral modules )

Control network 0 and 1 are associated with the DLUC0 and DLUC1
respectively. A DLUC has eight interIaces ( one Ior each possible shelI) in
DLUA, Irom which the control lines oI the network lead to the BD.. modules in
the individual shelves. From the BD.. units the control network branches Iurther in
groups to the mounting locations oI Iunctional units with microprocessors.

Control network 0 and 1 lead to all appropriate mounting locations in the
shelves, so that if one of the control networks fails, the other one can serve all
mounting locations. The signals are regenerated in the BD.. units and Ianned out
through Iurther outputs to the periphery. Similarly incoming signals from the
periphery are concentrated onto Iewer lines. This network structure limits the Iault
penetration range.

The control networks convey control inIormation, i.e., subscriber signaling
and commands Irom the DLUC to the SLMs, and transmit subscriber signaling
and messages in the opposite direction. In both directions the bit rate oI the control
networks is 187.5 kbit/s, i.e., eIIectively approximately 136 kbit/s.

4096-kbit/s network ( For 64 kbps user channels )

The 4096-kbit/s networks 0 and 1 are associated with the DIUD0 and
DIUD1 respectively. A DIUD has eight interIaces ( one Ior each possible shelI),
in DLUA Irom which the lines oI the network lead to the BD.. modules in the
individual shelves. The network structure is identical to that oI the control
network.

Both 4096-kbit/s networks have 64 channels Ior each direction oI
transmission with a bit rate oI 64 Kbit/s. The user inIormation is transmitted in
these channels to and Irom the SLMs. For the transmission oI user inIormation a
Iixed relationship exists via the DIUD between the channels oI the 4096-kbit/s
networks and the channels oI the PDCs.

2.4 !ERI!ERY
Test Unit
The test unit (TU) consists oI two modules - FMTU and LCMM. These
two modules can be plugged into mounting locations Ior SLMs in the module
Irame with central units, i.e. F:DLU(A) in R:DLUA or F:DLU(D) in R:DLUB or
F:DLU(G) in R:DLUD.
The test unit is provided in the DLU to test subscriber telephones,
subscriber lines and subscriber line circuits (SLCs). It can be connected to each
subscriber line or each SLC via a test bus. The test relays Ior metallic access to the
items to be tested are an integral part oI the SLCs.
Testing oI the subscriber lines connected to the DLU is controlled Irom the
line workstation (LWS). The LWS can be located either centrally in the OMC or
locally in the exchange. A special user program (TLFI) in the GP oI the LTG acts
as the interIace between the TU and the LWS. The program TLFI controls the TU
and thereIore the subscriber line test in accordance with the inputs. During such a
test, the GP and TU exchange commands (GP to TU) and results (TU to GP) via
CCS channel pair 16 oI one PDC and via one DLUC.
In addition to the LWS, the subscriber line measuring system (SULIM) can
also be used to control testing oI analog subscriber lines. The SULIM measuring
boards are located at the DLU site, in exchange or in the OMC. The user program
TLFB in the GP oI the LTG acts as the interIace between the TU and the SULIM
measuring boards.
More details on Line Work Stations and SULIM .
Subscriber line module, analog
The subscriber line modules (SLM) build the interIace to the subscribers.
The SLMs are accommodated partly in shelves 0 and 1 with the central units and
partly in shelves 2...7 in the extension module Irames in R:DLUA whereas in shelI
0 with central units and partly in shelves 1..3.
The subscriber line modules, analog (SLMA) serve to connect analog
subscribers to the system. Digital subscribers are connected via subscriber line
modules, digital (SLMD).
Subscriber line module, analog (SLMA:COS)
The Iollowing subscriber line modules are used Ior the connection oI analog
subscribers:
EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 18/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
- SLMA:COS, Ior ordinary subscribers
The SLMAs.... can have six , eight or sixteen analog subscriber line circuits
(SLCA...), which are controlled by the processor (SLMCP). One analog subscriber
can be connected to the DLU via each subscriber line circuit. The
SLCA....contains the necessary indication and Ieeding circuits as well as the
analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion Ior voice inIormation.
Important Iunctions oI the SLMA are :
O High impedance line monitoring Ior detection oI events in the idle state
O Constant current injection with adjustable current values in the call
condition with loop closure and short-to-ground detection
O Receiving oI pulse dialing
O Forwarding oI DTMF dialing to LTG
O Balanced ringing injection, ring tripping when subscriber answers
O SLCA with integrated range extension
O Connection oI the subscriber line and subscriber circuit side to a test
multiple
O Protection against over-voltage and external voltage
O DC decoupling oI the voice signals
O Adjustable relative transmit and receive levels
O Adjustable 2-wire impedance
O Coding/decoding oI speech signals according to A-law or 3-law with Iilter
Iunction
O FulIilling the CCITT transmission requirements
O Pre-processing oI signals in the SLMCP
O Hard reversal oI speech wires
O Single-wire disconnection oI supply voltage
O Loop open
O Transmission oI dial pulses
O Injection oI meter pulses
O InterIace to the 4096-kbit/s networks
O InterIace to the control networks

Subscriber line module Analog (SLMA:CMRL)
- SLMA:CMRL, 12-kHz/16-kHz meter pulse injection, hard
line reversal and loop open with 6 subs.
Subscriber line module Analog (SLMA:F!E)
- SLMA:FPE, Ieature programmable extended
The subscriber line module SLMA:FPE in DLUB and DLUD contains 16
analog subscriber line circuits and one common control unit with the processor
(SLMCP). The SLMA:FPE does not require an RGMG; these Iunctions are
EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 19/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
implemented on the modules themselves (exception: the SLMA:FPE with external
ringing does require an RGB Ior injection oI unbalanced ringing).
The SLMA:FPE replaces the previous SLMA:COS / SLMA:CMRL Ior
ordinary subscribers / PCOs e.g. subscriber line modules:
Subscriber line module Analog (SLMA : ITF)
The ITF-SLMA replaces the standard SLMA:FPE and the Test Unit (TU).
The Iunctions otherwise perIormed by the TU are implemented in the subscriber
line circuits (ITF-SLCA) oI the SLMA. In other words, each line circuit ITF-
SLCA perIorms selI-tests and tests the line and subscriber terminal.
Two variants oI the ITF-SLMA can be used:
-Subscriber Line Module, Analog, with ITF, no classical MTA (SLMA:ITF)
-Subscriber Line Module, Analog, with ITF, Ior classical MTA (SLMA:ITM)

The TU is still required in cases where subscribers have special ports or
where the variant SLMA:FPE with external ringing generation (i.e. by the RGB) is
employed.

Subscriber line module, digital (SLMD)

The subscriber line module, digital (SLMD) is used to connect digital
subscribers. A module has 8 or 16 subscriber line circuits, digital (SLCD), which
are controlled by a processor. Each subscriber line circuit provides a basic access
Ior ISDN terminals Ior one subscriber via the network termination .

The data are transmitted between SLMD and NT via a balanced 2-wire line
with a total data rate oI 160-kbit/s. The total data rate is made up oI 144-kbit/s user
inIormation and 16 kbit/s Ior synchronization, monitoring and diagnostics. The
user inIormation available to the subscriber at 144 kbit/s oIIers each subscriber
simultaneous access to two B-channels each with 64 kbit/s Ior bit-transparent
transmission oI inIormation (voice, text, data and image) and access to a D-
channel with 16 kbit/s. The D-channel is used to transmit, among other things, the
signaling between subscriber and exchange and to transmit low transIer rate data
(e.g. packet data, telemetry data).
There are diIIerent SLMD types existing Ior serving the 2 diIIerent coding
standards on a BA.
Important functions of the SLMD are .
O InterIace to the subscriber line
(Feeding oI the subscriber line circuit with -60 V and Ior range extension with
-93 V or -97 V.
For test purposes, connection oI the subscriber line circuit and the subscriber
line to the test unit (TU) via the test matrix)

ALTTC/SW-II 20/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
O Remote power Ieeding oI the NT and digital telephone Iollowing Iailure oI
the local power network
O 2-wire/4-wire conversion with adjustable line building-out network
O Echo compensation Ior Iully duplex transmission on the 2-wire subscriber
line
O Conversion oI the data received Irom the subscriber in 4B/3T or 2B/1Q
code (2B/1Q Ior BSNL) to binary code and level alignment
O Conversion oI the data to be sent to the subscriber Irom binary code into
4B/3T or 2B/1Q code and level alignment
O Signaling transmission according to the D-channel protocol
O Assignment oI the incoming inIormation Irom the subscriber in the B1, B2
and D channels to the allocated time slots oI the 4096-kbit/s network
O Assignment oI the inIormation received via the various time slots oI the
4096-kbit/s network to the B1, B2 and D channels oI the subscriber line.
Stand-alone service control (SASC) in R:DLUA

During emergency operation the stand-alone service control (SASC) is
required in remote DLUs Ior the communication between the connected analog,
ISDN and CENTREX subscribers. SASCs are also used in each DLU oI a remote
control unit (RCU, Section 3).
Emergency service equipment for push-button subscribers (EMS!) R-
DLUA
DLU can be equipped with an EMSP instead oI an SLMA. Normally a
maximum oI 2 EMSPs can be provided. Each EMSP contains 3 code-receiver
circuits.
Under normal operating conditions an LTG receives the dialed inIormation
Irom DTMF subscribers and evaluates it. In emergency service, pushbutton
receivers are required in the DLU itselI Ior these subscribers. These pushbutton
receivers are contained in the EMSP modules.
Stand-alone service control (SASC-E) in R:DLUB or R:DLUD

The stand -alone service control SASC-E replaces the Iormer emergency
control (SASC) and the emergency service equipment Ior pushbutton subscribers
(EMSP). Depending on the application program system (APS), the Iormer SASC
and EMSP modules can continue to be use.
Each SASC-E contains 8 code-receiver circuits.
External alarm set (ALEX) R-DLU ( remote )

The external alarm set (ALEX) is used to relay alarms Irom external
devices (e.g., air conditioning, power supply, Iire extinguishers etc.) to the SYPD.
Minimum one ALEX module is required per remote cluster oI DLUs. The ALEX
can connect upto 16 external alarms to the main exchange.

EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 21/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
A speciIic Iault printout can be output by the system Ior every external
DLU alarm. The commands Ior deIining these Iault printouts is contained in the
MMN : SYP ( register INTRO ). The same document also describes the level
deIinition oI these alarms. The pin assignments Ior the ALEX are described in
MMN Ior DLU.
2.5 !ower supply in the DLU ( DCCs )

The DLU power supply is decentralized. For each halI-shelI in the module
Irame there is a separate direct-current converter module (DCC). II a DCC Iails,
the consequences are relatively minor, as only one half-shelf is affected.
Various types oI current converters DCC are used to Ieed the subscriber
line modules.
The DCC modules supply all the operating voltages required in the shelI
(including the voltages required Ior any range extensions). The voltages generated
are monitored Ior under-voltage, and some also Ior over-voltage. II the speciIied
tolerances are exceeded, an alarm is triggered and the dc converter is disconnected
electronically. All voltage outputs oI the DCC modules are short-circuit protected.
If the module DCC0-1 or DCC1-1 fails (i.e. DCCs in frame A) of #.DLUA
the respective DLU system fails. The DLU system not aIIected continues its call
processing.
The voltage Ior the two DCCs in a shelI is Ied via a common Iuse in the
Iuse panel. The exchange voltage supplied is unIiltered.
The voltage Ior the subscriber line modules (SLM) in each shelI is Ied via a
Iuse in the Iuse panel. As Iar as the power supply is concerned, the subscriber line
modules are termed load circuits. The voltage supplied is Iiltered.
The direct current converters generate the dc voltages required by the SLM
Irom the exchange voltage -48 V/-60 V. The current converters DCC.. have the
Iollowing voltage values :

DCCCR -48 V/-60 V to 12 V,-12V,5V,-5V (For SLMA.COS & SLM .CMRL)

DCCDC -48 V/-60 V to 12V,-12V, 5V, -5V, 51 V/53V, -67V (For other)

DCCDD -48 V/-60V to 12V,-12V, 5V, -5V, -97V ( For ISDN )

DCCDF / DCCDM -48 V/-60V to 5V,-5V, -68V, 52V

DCCDK / DCCDN -48 V/-60V to 5V, -97V ( For ISDN )

DCCDQ -48 V/-60V to 5V, -5V, 12V, -12V, -68V, 52V ( For TU other)

2.6 Rack and module frame layouts

The DLUs are accommodated in racks. Fig. 6 shows diIIerent layout
options in R:DLU(A). Only two types of module frames are used for the entire
DLU program | (F:DLU(A), F:DLU(B), Fig. 7(a),(b) . The module Irames
contain two rows oI modules that are reIerred to as "shelves" in the Iollowing
Iigures.
The DLUs are created and conIigured using MML commands . These
MML commands apply to groups oI Iunctional units or to individual modules .
Data entered during creation generate a memory map oI the previously unknown
Iunctional unit in the coordination processor. When conIiguration takes place the
Iunctional unit is placed in the desired operating state (e.g., active).

3.0 REMOTE CONTROL UNIT (RCU)

The remote control unit, RCU (Fig. 9) can consist oI up to six DLUs. Each
DLU oI the RCU contains a stand-alone service controller (SASC) which can be
plugged in place oI two SLMs (in R:DLUA only). During normal operation the
connections between the subscribers served by the #CU are established via the
EWSD exchange.
3.1 Emergency service for remote DLU

(a) Failure of all connections to the exchange :
In this case the SASCs oI the DLUs control the connection setup between the DLUs
oI the RCU and also internally in their own respective DLU. During emergency
service, all the subscribers connected to the RCU can communicate with one
another.
(b) Failure of the connections of one or more DLUs (but not all) to the
exchange :
In the case oI the Iailure oI the connections to the exchange oI one or more DLUs
the subscribers connected to these DLUs can communicate with one another. The
SASCs oI these DLUs once again take over the control oI the connection setup.
The DLUs oI an RCU not operating in the emergency service continue Iunctioning
in normal operation.

3.2 Rack layout
The inIormation and illustrations already given, e.g., the rack and
module Irame A ,B ,D ,E and G layouts, also apply to the DLUs in the RCU.

This status can be changed by CONF commands. !LA MBL ACT

Operational Status OST
The availability oI the diIIerent units is determined by their operational
status. The basic states are as follows :

The unit is ready Ior operation
The unit is not ready Ior operation
The unit is not present

ALTTC/SW-II 30/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
This inIormation is stored in the CP and sometimes in the aIIected unit
itselI or in the next higher ranking unit (e.g. GP knows OST oI connected DLUC).
It can be displayed by STAT-Commands.

In the DLU and the CCNC a diIIerentiation is made between the actual
status and the target status oI the units.

1. Ready for operation means that the unit has one oI the Iollowing operation
status
- active : ACT
- standby : STB

Units which are not duplicated always have the operational status ACT
(e.g. MTD, LTG, DIU, SYP).

For duplicated units there are always two possibilities :

- both units are in the operation status ACT (e.g. MDD, MU, MB)
- one unit is in the status ACT, the second unit is in the status STB:
(e.g. SN, MCH, CCG)

2. Units which are not ready : The Iollowing operation states are possible :

- maintenance blocked : MBL
- conditionally blocked : CBL
- deIective : UNA
- not accessible : NAC
(a) MBL : A unit that should be blocked in order to execute maintenance tasks
(e.g. during the Iault clearance), must be conIigured to MBL.

(b) CBL : II a non-duplicated unit oI the switching periphery is to be made
MBL, (e.g. LTG), the relevant unit must Iirst be conIigured to CBL.
In CBL status, the unit can no longer be used Ior new connections. As
soon as all subscribers or trunks have the status idle`, a print out is
given at the OMT and this unit can then be conIigured to MBL.

For example, LTG, being a non-duplicated unit must be conIigured
Iirst to CBL beIore conIiguring to MBL. AIter CBL
acknowledgment on the OMT the LTG can be conIigured to MBL.

EWSD Digital Line Unit

ALTTC/SW-II 31/39 Intro-1.2-DLU / 01.02.2006
(c) UNA : A unit ready Ior operation which is recognized by the saIeguarding
SW as Iaulty is taken out oI service, and conIigured to the operation
status UNA (e.g. CCG-Iault with conIiguration).

II there is no redundancy, the relevant unit is conIigured to UNA only
in the case oI strong Iaults (e.g., LTG-Iailure may be with/without
conIiguration depending on the severity oI the Iault).

(d) NAC : A unit whose higher unit is not ready Ior operation has the operation
status NAC, e.g.,
iI IOPMTD UNA (deIective),
status oI MTD becomes NAC (not deIective but cannot
be accessed).
3. Units which are not present must be in operation status PLA. In this case no tests
and thereIore no Iault messages are produced Ior these units.

Summary Reference for Status of different units:
O Semi-permanent status (Operator controlled)
ACT Active Call processing running and unit is Iault
Iree
CBL Conditionally blocked Active Ior saIeguarding, but blocked Ior
call processing
MBL Mtce. blocked OOS (Out oI service), but accessible Ior
mtce. work
PLA Planned OOS, possibly without hardware, but
Ioreseen Ior later extension.
Status aIter creation oI a unit.
UNA Unavailable OOS due to Iault
1ransient Status
NAC Not accessible Higher ranking unit is OOS
(Access degradation)

SEZ Seized by process other than diagnostic
DST Disturbed OOS, but with automatic reactivation

6.0 DLU G in EWSD Ver 16.0
6.1 Dfferences between latest DLUG and other
conventional DLUs

S.No. Description DiIIerence
1. Power Supply Class I : On board DCC In R:DLUG
These are used Ior all DLU modules supporting 3.3V
and / or 5.0 V. the power supply oI all on board DCCs will
be supervised by a Iuse in 11 redundancy and an
additional Iuse on board.
The power supply lines are de-coupled by diode Ior each
module.
There are up to 8 Iuses ( breakers ) necessary Ior the on
board DCCs in the Iuse panel. The presence oI both input
voltages is supervised by the BDG.
Class II: Pool DCC ( DCCDR / DCCEB )
Pool DCCs will be used Ior all other high voltages.
All pool DCCs are connected at the output and supplied by
a Iuse. The interconnections oI the output voltages are
mechanical protected against shortcuts and cut oII.
Mounting oI pool DCCs is only allowed at pre deIined
positions in the middle oI the shelI.
The number oI DCCs, which must be connected, is
based on the max. possible number oI connections or the
number oI active layer 1 oI the ISDN BA. In the event oI a
DCC module Iailure the max. permissible connections are
limited by the DLUC, iI this should become necessary.
One pool DCC is able to support up to about 130 to
150 active SLMA32 ports. Thus a DLUG Iully equipped
with SLMA32 requires 3 pool DCC to oIIer the max.
number oI simultaneous calls. Because oI a so called n1
redundancy is applied Ior the pool DCC, the DLUG is
normally equipped with 4 pool DCC.
Class III: DCC Ior SLMD
DCCDW is used Ior SLMD in the DLUG-Irame. A
DCCDW, which is mounted at the leIt or right side, will
only supports the SLMs in the leIt or right halI shelI only.
A DCCDW occupies 2 mounting location normally used
Ior SLMs.
