The short book of Haggai contains four dated prophecies. These were all given within a span of four months. The 1st prophecy (dated August 29, 520 BC) was an indictment of their selfishness (self-centeredness). The 2nd prophecy (dated October 17, 520 BC) was an encouragement in view of their obedience. The 3rd prophecy (dated December 18, 520 BC) was a review of their past and present situation. The 4th prophecy (dated December 18, 520 BC) was a promise of blessings for their obedience in the days ahead. The 4th prophecy was more personal in nature. It was addressed to Zerubbabel, the governor of the land and the representative of the Jewish people. It contains only promises: 1. The promise of peace/security resulting from the overthrow of their surrounding enemies (vv. 21-22) 2. The promise of power /authorization as they fulfill Gods plan (v. 23) In many ways, it parallels the Great Commission given by our risen Savior and Lord (Matt.28:18-20). The command for every Christian was to make disciples of every ethnicity. This is done through our acts of going, baptizing, and teaching. The promise was: 1. We are authorized because He has full and every authority (hence we have the power to obey His command). 2. We will always be under His protection because of His perpetual Presence (hence, we have peace and security as we obey Him) We are here for a purpose. We all have a job to do. As we take on His challenge and do His will, we are assured that we not only have the power to do it, but also His protection as we do it. So, lets get moving!

The degree of blessing enjoyed by any man will correspond exactly with the completeness of God's victory over him. A. W. Tozer
