Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow is an adaptation of the tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and
its director is the famous Tim Burton. The main actors are Christina Ricci,
Johnny Depp, Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Casper Van Dien and
Jeffrey Jones, and its music was composed by Danny Elfman. Sleepy Hollow is
a horror film and its finality is to terrify us. The aesthetic is dark and gothic in
the most part of the film. We can see it in the music, the special effects, the
story, the foggy weather that always surrounds the characters, the deaths, the
ghosts, the supernatural, the fear, the lack of light, the night scenes, the
witches, the blood… I like this kind of films, especially when Tim Burton is
who directs them, I think he’s a genius and does a very good job with all his
productions.

Summary

Ichabod Crane is investigating a murder in New York, when argues with the
judge: he thinks that the investigation has to be more scientific. The judge
decides to send him to Sleepy Hollow to find out who is murdering people
there with his scientific techniques. Ichabod accepts and goes to Sleepy
Hollow. When he arrives, he meets Katrina Van Thassel and he falls in love,
but he has already a boy called Brom who is also in love with her. Ichabod
talks with some important people of the village and they tell him that the
murderer is a ghost without head who beheads his victims. Ichabod starts his
investigation and founds out that there’s really a ghost killing people, but he
still thinking that it has to be someone human who is ordering this ghost to
murder. While he tries to discover his identity, the ghost still murdering again
and again. First of all, Ichabod thinks that lord Van Thassel is his man, but
suddenly the horseman kill him, and the blame falls on Katrina, his daughter.
Ichabod doesn’t know that actually the murderer is Katrina’s stepmother and
he lets Katrina and takes a horse car to come back to New York. Suddenly he
realises that Katrina is innocent, and for the first time, he believes in his
heart. He comes back to Katrina’s house and saves her of her stepmother, who
is trying to kill the poor girl. Ichabod tells the horseman ghost that the
stepmother has his head and its controlling him, and he takes her to hell, to
The Dead Tree. Finally, Ichabod and Katrina go to live together in New York, to
be happy after suffering a complicated and frightening history in Sleepy
Hollow. At the end of the film Ichabod realises that his mind doesn’t tells
always the truth and he has to relay in his heart too.
