Dance Manual by: Gilsa Zorrilla

Introduction:
Since Old Testament times the dance has been a means of praise to the Lord
used by his people and through the word we can see the benefits of it; it has
been used for the celebration of great victories or preparation for the
conquest of some. In our Lord we have constant victories and triumphs,
because in Him, we are more than conquerors, so why not dance?

Through dance we can outwardly express our inner relationship with Jesus.
When we dance for Him, our heart speaks to Him through movement.
Dancing for us Christians is a form of worship with which we thank the
Almighty for his mercy and grace towards us. With our dance we
demonstrate our joy to Almighty God and minister to his people by making
his message known through our steps.

We hope with all our hearts that this material will be of great blessing and
provide the necessary knowledge for all those dancers around the world who
seek to strengthen or start their dance ministry.

Dance:
Dance is the execution of movements that are
performed with the body, mainly with arms and
legs, according to a rhythm that you want to
follow. In the context of Christian dance is an
expression of worship to God, and these
movements express praise to Him, joy of the
people or also a message to the people revealed
by the Holy Spirit.

In the Bible we find several verses that talk about

dance:

- Jeremiah 31: 4, 31: 13

- Psalms 30: 11, 18: 6

- Luke 15: 1

- 2 Samuel 6:14

Purposes Of Dance
To be instruments of worship to God.
Edification of God's people and the one who is ministering.
Preparation of the people for battles. Evangelization through dance.

The heart of the worshiper must be a whole heart for God, not divided, God
is not interested in external things, He is more interested in what is inside
our heart. Hence Jeremiah 17:13-14 tells us:

"The LORD said, Because they forsook my law, which I gave before them,
and obeyed not my voice, neither walked according to it, but went after the
imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, as their fathers taught
them."

Worship lifts the yoke. Worshipping the Lord is for us a filter that cleanses us
of all impurities. It is the fire that refines us like silver or gold, the higher it
is, the more it purifies us and as we enter into the worship of God it deals
with more things that are within us. Ephesians 5:13 points out:

"But all things, when they are made manifest by the light, are made
manifest; for it is the light that makes all things manifest."

Difference Between Biblical Dance and Worldly

Dance
The motivation of Christian dance (it is a manifestation of joy) is to glorify
and worship the Lord inspired by the Holy Spirit. When the dance is
inspired by the Holy Spirit, it will not exalt the flesh or glorify the flesh by
dancing. This dance is a prophetic interpretation of the words of our hymns
and songs with which the congregation worships the Lord.

Worldly dance glorifies the enemy, the flesh and the world in its expression
of rebellion, sensuality and emotional and spiritual confusion. This dance
produces the opposite of the biblical dance.

Types Of Dance:
SPONTANEOUS DANCE: It is performed freely, delighting in the
presence of the Lord. It is what could be called the vision of what God
wants us to dance, what will minister to the people. It is understood
that the steps are given by God through his Spirit at the moment of
dancing. Also, in this type of dance we have an excellent space to let
loose on a stage and tell Jesus how much we really love Him through
our anointing steps.

DANCE IN WORSHIP AND PRAISE: It is performed for the purpose

of magnifying the Lord for what He is in Himself. (Holy, Just, Faithful,
True, Love, etc.) as well as exalt him for his works and give
thanksgiving for his blessings. It is manifested by acts of reverence,
prostration, raising of hands, jumping, rolling, spinning, laughter,
gestures of exultation and much joy.

PROPHETIC DANCE: Performed by a dancer or corps of dancers who

at a given moment may minister to the congregation with a prophetic
message. This dance is performed with very defined and clear
movements.

DANCE IN SPIRITUAL WAR: Accompanied by the praise group and

with discernment to know when we enter enemy territory and also if
the enemy has entered our territory and dispossess him of what
belongs to us, for this we use flags, banners and tambourines.

DANCE IN INTERCESSION: It is a process of spiritual childbirth,

carried out in moments such as: congregation seeking more holiness,
deliverance, healings, miracles, etc.

HEBREW DANCE: Characterized by Hebrew steps that are generally

performed in groups.

CONGREGATIONAL DANCE: All the people unite in one body, in one

Creative Commons 2012 - Christian Dance 9

Dance Manual by: Gilsa Zorrilla

spirit, worshipping and dancing to the creator.

DANCE INTERPRETER: They are fixed and fine steps given by God.
This is what God wants us to dance and minister to his people.
Interpretive dance is one of the most beautiful branches of dance that
can exist. They are steps or movements that flow through the ministry
in preparation for our praise to God.

DAVIDIC DANCE: It comes from the tabernacle of David. In Acts

15:16 the Lord says that he will build again the tabernacle of David,
which is fallen down, and will repair the ruins thereof, and set it up
again. The Davidic dance represents David's heart of worship, the joy
we feel when we adore him and the joy of the Lord who is our
strength.

Also known as Israelite; for Jews the dance has always been a prayer
accompanied by music, chanting and the sound of drums that are
divided into three categories:

• Hasidic or spontaneous dance

• Yemenite or very graceful movement
• Debka or complex dance and war style

Dance Interpreter

Dance Steps Interpreter

GOD: We turn around and end with the body bent to the right, facing the
floor, with geometric hands (straight hands, left down, right up).

JESUS: We start in releve (tiptoe) and place our hands straight in fist and
leaving out the index and middle fingers, right side up, extended laterally to
the left.

SAY: To shake hands sideways and forward starting from our mouth and
simulating that the words come out of it and are spread by our hands.

KING: Joining the little finger and thumb on one hand with their respective
partner on the other hand (as if forming a crown) while doing releve and plie.

ETERNITY: A jump with classic hand and feet behind.

POWER: Extending our hands upward, one first then the other with fists
clenched in victory.

BEAUTY: With the right hand at face level with the palm open and upward. I
pass my left hand touching my right hand and making a half circle to the left.

REVERENCE: We bow to God and bow to the public. In both of them we

make an inclination of our body and in neither of them we turn our back.

BLOOD: Left hand in front and right hand touches left hand in wave.

Dance Manual by: Gilsa Zorrilla

FIRE: From the bottom up as if we were

rolling something in our hands. Also this fire
in front with the palms facing our forehead.

HOLY SPIRIT: From top to bottom

(butterfly).

SONG: Shake hands starting from the mouth

towards the front in the four cardinal points.

REST: Leaning forward with a body tilt towards the body towards the right
leg, I pass both hands towards my face as if I were sleeping.

PRAISE: From the bottom upwards opening and closing the arms.

CROSS: I put my hands open simulating a cross, I turn my back crossing my

hands from top to bottom and staying in a cross in relief.

FREEDOM: Freedom in front, half turn, freedom behind and return to

original position.

LAMB: I put my left hand out in front, jump and my right hand touches my
left hand and then vice versa.

Dance Preparation
We must keep in mind that we are God's ministers and to present ourselves
at his altar we must be clean, otherwise we will minister impurity and pain to
God's people. This is why our preparation must be both spiritual and
technical.

We must keep in mind that the preparation of a piece must be with great
care, whether it is interpreted or Davidic, we must analyze the lyrics of the
song we want to present, pray and at the same time meditate on its content
and ask ourselves why and for whom I do the dance. What we do has to be
excellent for God, try that if, for example, we raise our hands, it should be

with style because God deserves the best of us.

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION: Our dance is for God, He is our priority,

without Him we are only bodies in movement without reason to be. It is
necessary to maintain our communion with God in order to honor Him, since
the grace given by God is the key to dance.

TECHNICAL PREPARATION: We must be aware that although dance is

focused on and for the Lord, we are exposed to a human audience.

It is necessary to take care of our physical appearance (ability developed

through exercise), our health and to be pleasing to the public eye. As a
popular saying goes "practice makes perfect", let's remember that we dance
for the King and we must give our best. Perfecting our steps and techniques,
attending rehearsals and making sacrifices to attend them, is the work of
every dancer.

ROUTINE:

Combination of different steps.

DANCE SET-UP: FACTORS TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.

• Costumes
• Hairstyle
• Jewelry
• Cleanliness and hygiene
• Visit to the place where the dance will take place

The Dressing Of A Dancer

The clothing of a dancer is very important, the fabric
should be loose, the design and color in the dance

your works praise you, And let your saints bless you.
The glory of thy kingdom let them tell, And speak of
thy power, To make known to the sons of men his
mighty acts, And the glory of the magnificence of his kingdom."

their voice, lift up their hand, that they may enter
into the gates of princes." Isaiah 13:2

They are instruments of praise used in moments of

celebration, rejoicing and spiritual warfare.
It is used to clean the spiritual airs. (John 2:15-16). It is also used when
there is a special move. It is an instrument of praise that resembles a whip.
(Isaiah 10:26).

The ribbon is a complement to the flag ministry, with the ribbon we declare
victory over the enemy, it is a symbol that identifies us as Christians. By
lifting our ribbon we are lifting up our Lord as the King and sovereign of the
whole universe and we are making known to the world that Christ lives over
his people, the people who rejoice in his salvation. (John 12:32).

Technique and complements of the tapes:

Every tape ministry carries the technique hand in hand with the word of God
so that our praise is pleasing to the sight of the people and of course so that
it burns with anointing. When it is said to be pleasing in the sight of God it is
because we have to dance with excellence, primarily for God and then for the
congregation. Coordination and technical preparation are of utmost
importance as they will provide the group with greater excellence and safety
(Luke 12:30). Only with understanding can we realize the goal of all the arts.

was the weapon used by God for the
destruction of fortresses. Isaiah 30:32

The tambourine is a circular or rectangular

Rain Ring:

Tabroit translated in Spanish means "Aro De Lluvia", "Gloria" or "Aro Con

Cintas", is the biblical name given to an instrument of celebration and
intercession. The original shape of the hoop (Tabroit) is one side of a drum
or cylinder. It is in symbolic form of the hoop (Tabroit) of the Old Testament
to be used as a point of contact to express the invisible through a visible
representation.

In the hands of the worshipper this symbolic instrument becomes a spiritual

tool, not to be grasped lightly, but to be used wisely. The Tabroit use long
ribbons that are the prototype of the Holy Spirit
and the hoops (crown) are types of Christ's reign in
our lives (Genesis 31:27; Isaiah 5:12; 24:8;
30:32; Ezekiel 28:13; 1 Samuel 105-6; 18:6 and
7; Job 17:6; Jeremiah 31:4).

Conclusion:
Throughout the writing of this manual, which is a compilation of concepts
that are shared in the daily life of our ministry, and information from The
Word as well as other materials, we are pleased to have had the initiative to
do so.

Through this work we have the opportunity to bless many people who daily
and insistently write to us in order to obtain all kinds of information about
the dance and to anyone who gets their hands on it. We hope that with it,
the questions will not cease, but that it will be a motive for a greater
eagerness to know and will promote preparation and excellence in the
brothers who have found in dance a means of worship to the Almighty God.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION:

This comes from having a private time with God, where we can express
ourselves. Every stroke on our tambourine must have a purpose.

LEVELS OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION

1) Mechanism and creativity (practical)

2) Joy (communion with God)

3) The anointing and being a minister in the church. (When your leader or
pastor thinks so)

4) Discipline

5) Love

The Danzor's Hands

Our whole body belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ, so our hands should also
express the love and strength of the Lord.
The word says in Romans 6:20 "Neither yield your members as instruments
of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are
alive among the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness

The Danzor's Feet

God has given us feet to be used as powerful weapons against the enemy in
Mal, 4:2.3 He said: to those who fear me, the sun of righteousness will rise
and in his wings he will bring healing, and you will leap like calves from the
herd. You shall tread down the wicked, and they shall be ashes under the
soles of your feet in the day that I shall act, says the LORD of hosts.

The enemy shall be ashes under our feet.

in Isaiah 52:7 says: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him
who brings good tidings".
