ACT I (THE ANGEL GABRIEL VISITS MARY)
Narrator: A long time ago, living in Nazareth, a young girl
named Mary received a strange but welcome visitor.
(Mary is washing clothes when the Angel Gabriel
enters)
Angel Gabriel: Peace be with you! God has blessed you
and has been pleased with you.
María: (Surprised and scared) Who are you, I don't
understand what you mean.
Angel Gabriel: (Smiling) Mary, do not be afraid, for you
have found favor with God, he has been very kind to you
and has granted you the greatest of blessings.
María: Me?
Angel Gabriel: Yes, in your womb a child is growing who
has been conceived by the work of the Holy Spirit. He
will be the Son of God and his kingdom will never
have an end.
Mary: I believe and trust in God. I am only a servant of
the Lord. May his will be done in me.
Angel Gabriel: Listen Mary, for God nothing is
impossible. Your cousin Elizabeth, whom everyone
thinks is too old to have children, will have a son whom
God has chosen to open the way that will lead to
yours. Go, and tell Elizabeth that her name should be
John.
María: (rubbing her belly) I will go to see my dear cousin

ACT II (MARY VISITS HER COUSIN ISABEL)
Narrator: That same afternoon, Mary said goodbye to
Maria: Hello Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: (Surprised and happy) Cousin Mary, blessed
are you above all women. I am very happy to see you.
Come in, come in.
María: What... You already know?
Elizabeth: Of course, I know that you have been chosen
by God to be the mother of his Son. An angel told my
husband, Zechariah, that I was going to have a son who
would prepare people to welcome yours. And hearing
your voice, I felt my baby shudder with joy and
happiness.
Mary: Well, you should know, dear cousin, that this child
that is being gestated in your womb is destined to be
very important and his name should be John.
Elizabeth: Juan? Well, I am not the one to contradict the
mother of the son of God, so John will be called.
Mary: Elizabeth, I have decided to stay here with you for
a while.
Elizabeth: I am very happy to have the mother of the
Savior in my home.
ACT III (JOSEPH IS VISITED IN DREAMS)
Narrator: During the 3 months that Mary was with
Elizabeth, Joseph, Mary's fiancé, learned of his fiancée's
state of grace and began to be filled with doubts, so the
same angel who revealed himself to Mary, also
appeared to him in a dream.
(Joseph lying down and the Angel Gabriel sitting beside
him)
Angel Gabriel: Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to
receive Mary as your wife, she is a good young woman
and has never failed you.
José: What do you mean, no? She is pregnant and it is
not from me.
Angel Gabriel: Neither from you nor from any other
man. The child that Mary is expecting is the Son of God,
who has been conceived by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Joseph: From the Holy Spirit? The son of God?
Angel Gabriel: Yes, the son of God! And yet, you must
raise him, care for him and love him as if he were your
own son, because he will save your people from their
sins.
Joseph: But... Why Mary? Why us?
Angel Gabriel: Simple, God has chosen you because
both Mary and you have proven to be good people and
obedient to His laws.
Joseph: Well, this being so, I will fulfill the mission
entrusted to me and I will love Jesus as my son.
Angel Gabriel: (Leaving the scene) Remember Joseph,
Mary loves you and continues to preserve her purity and
innocence.
ACT IV (MARY AND JOSEPH SEEK AN ACCOMODATION)
Narrator: A few days before Jesus was born, Joseph and
Mary had to make a long journey from Nazareth to
Bethlehem of Judea, Joseph's hometown, because the
Roman emperor Caesar Augustus had ordered a census
to make sure everyone was
paying taxes, so each family had to travel to the
hometown of the head of the family.
(Joseph walking, pulling the donkey on which Mary is
riding)
Soldier: By edict of the emperor Caesar Augustus
ordered that every personene to go to their place of
origin for the census.
José: María, are you very tired?
María: Yes José, a little bit. Well, quite a lot because the
road to Bethlehem is very long.
José: Night is approaching and we must look for a place
to rest.
María: Look, there is an inn nearby, let's ask if there is
room for us.
(María stays with the donkey and José knocks at the
door of the inn)
Innkeeper: Good evening.
José: Good evening, sir. I would like to know if there is a
place for us to spend the night, as we are coming from a
very long trip and we are very tired.
Innkeeper: I'm sorry, I don't have a single bed left,
because of the census the city is full of travelers looking
for a place to sleep.
Joseph: But my wife is too tired; and her child is about to
be born.
Innkeeper: Sorry, the inn is full, but if you want you can
sleep in the stable. That is all I can offer you.
José: Thanks, good man! That will be fine.
Innkeeper: (Surprised) How? Sir, just kidding, that's the
animal barn.
José: It doesn't matter sir, what we need is a place to
rest and shelter from the cold.
Innkeeper: Well, if you insist, go ahead, it's in the back.
It's not much, but the ox will keep them warm.
(Joseph, Mary and the Innkeeper go to the stable)
Joseph: Thank you sir, how much do I owe you?
Innkeeper: Nothing, sir, how did you think of that? I
can't charge you anything, come on in. (To Mary) Here
my lady, take this lamp and this blanket to cover yourself
from the cold.
Maria: Thank you sir, you are very kind, God bless you
and reward you for your help.
(The innkeeper leaves and the donkey lies down next to
the ox)
Joseph: Lie down Mary Are you cold?
María: A little bit, José.
José: I will cover you with the blanket.
(The light is turned off)
ACT V (SHEPHERDS RECEIVE THE GOOD NEWS)
Narrator: That night Joseph and Mary saw the promise
of the coming of the savior fulfilled when they heard the
cry of their long-awaited child in the humble manger.
Near the stable, a group of shepherds stood under the
cold blanket of night, chatting and singing as they
watched and tended their flocks.
Juan: How quiet the night is!
Samuel: Yes, there is something in the atmosphere that
gives a sense of peace.
Leticia: Look! That star shines brighter than any other!
John and Samuel: It's true!
Leticia: That star must mean something.
Jim: You're right, but what?
Samuel: I feel that something will happen soon that will
change things forever.
Leticia: Mmm... I remember that our father commented
something about a prophecy.
Leticia: Hey Samuel, what do you know about the
Redeemer's prophecy?
Samuel: Well, what my grandparents told me is that a
Messiah will come who will be the hope of the people of
Israel.
John: Will he be the king who will expel Rome from
Israel?
Samuel: Well, for your information, John, the prophet
Malachi said: "And your Bethlehem, you are not the
least of the cities of Judea, for out of you shall come
forth the one who is to rule my people.
Jim: In Bethlehem? In our city? I don't think so.
Leticia: When do you think the Messiah will arrive?
Samuel: Hopefully it will be soon, since Herod and the
Romans are treating us worse and worse.
Jim: That's right, we need someone to remember the
poor and dispossessed like us.
Samuel: Let's enjoy that wonderful star that the night
has given us.
Leticia: Something is happening, the star is shining
brighter than ever and has illuminated that abandoned
barn near here!
Samuel: Look... Look... Something's coming!
Juan: It looks like something that flies!
Leticia: Could it be an angel?
Samuel: He's an angel!
Leticia: Oh, how beautiful it is, all full of light!
(The whole stage lights up and the shepherds try to
run)
Angel Gabriel: Glory to God in the highest and peace on
earth to men of good will. Do not fear, do not flee. I
have good news that will bring joy to all the people.
Juan: What is this good news?
Angel Gabriel: That the Savior of the World is born. The
King of Kings. The Son of God.
Angel Gabriel: Follow that great and luminous star, and
there you will find the Child wrapped in swaddling
clothes and resting in a manger in the company of his
parents, an ox and a little donkey.
Samuel: Let us go and fetch him, and let us go and
worship the Child God who has already been born.
(The shepherds walk following the light and arrive at
the stable where an Angel is)
Leticia: Here it is... here it is... let's go in!
(Shepherds enter and approach the child lying down)
(Mary and Joseph are at his side)
John: The baby is lying in a manger, just as the Angel
said.
Leticia: How beautiful it is!
(All the shepherds kneel to adore the child)
Leticia: We have to give the Good News to everyone.
Everyone should know that God sent his Son to be our
Savior.
ACT VI (THREE KINGS OF THE EAST FOLLOW A STAR)
Narrator: The shepherds returned to their flocks,
praising God for sending his son to save his people. Then
three wise men from the east saw the shining star.
1 Wizard King: Look, that bright star in the sky!
2 Wizard King: We already know what that means.
3 Wizard King: Yes, ancient prophecies say that when
the child King is born, a bright star will appear in the
firmament.
1 Wizard King: Let's follow her!
2 Wizard King: Yes, we have to find the new King, the
star will guide our way.
Narrator: The three Wise Men followed the star into the
country of Judea and when they reached the capital,
Jerusalem, they began to question the people. But when
Herod, the king of Judea, heard this, he sent
for the three wise men to speak with them.
3 Wise King: I have brought him the myrrh that is to be
anointed on chosen men, for this child will be a great
man among men.
1 Magician King: I have brought you the incense that is
offered to God, for Jesus is the Son of God made man.
2 Magician King: And I brought him the gold that is given
to kings, because your son has come from God, as king
of the world, to bring justice and peace to all peoples.
Narrator: That night when the Three Wise Men were
sleeping, an angel appeared to them in their dreams.

Three Wise Men: Where is the child who was born to be Angel: God sent me to warn you not to return to Herod,
the King of the Jews? We have come from the Far East to for his real plan is to end the life of the Christ Child. Take
worship Him. another way back that will lead you away from Herod.

Herod: (Thinking) I can't let someone else take my
place. I am the only king of this land! I have to do
something Soldier!
Soldier: Yes, your majesty.
Herod: Bring before me those three Wise Men who ask
for the new King. Tell them I need to talk to them.
Narrator: The next day, upon awakening,.............. They
returned to their countries in the East following a
different path. When the Wise Men departed, Herod
was furious because they had not returned to inform
him of the whereabouts of the Christ Child and his plan
had failed.

Narrator: The soldiers presented the Three Wise Men to

Herod. End
Herod: Welcome to my palace, nice to meet you. I heard
about the Child King. Please, when you find him, let me
know where he is, so I can go and worship him too.

Tres Reyes Magos: Yes, we will inform you as soon as we

know your location. We will continue our journey, and
as soon as we find him, we will let you know.

Narrator: The Three Wise Men followed the star

towards Bethlehem, and when it stopped they
discovered that it shone directly on a small stable, when
they entered they found Jesus in the arms of
Mary.

1 Wizard King: The star has stopped!

3 Wizard King: Let's go in.

Three Wise Men: (To Joseph and Mary) Good evening,

we have come from far away and have brought gifts for
our King.
