Living Via Crucis Script For Lent
Living Via Crucis Script For Lent
PILATO: Let's see, what accusation do you bring against this man?
WRITE: Governor, this man agitates the people, refuses to pay taxes to
Caesar and claims to be king!
JESUS: Are you saying that on your own, or have others told you so?
PILATO: Your nation and pontiffs have delivered you to me, what have you
done?
PILATO: (to JESUS) Where are you from?.... You do not answer me? Do you not
know that I have authority to crucify you or to set you free?
JESUS: You would have no authority over me, if it did not come to you from
above.
PILATO: Do you think I am a Jew? Your nation and your pontiffs have handed
you over to me What have you done?
PILATO: Oh. You speak of a kingdom... then you must be a king, then are you
a king?
JESUS: Just as you say. I am a king, for this I came into the world, to bear
witness to the truth.
1
PILATO: What is the truth? (Jesus does not answer) Since you are a Galilean, let
them take you to King Herod; he is the one who has authority over
the province of Galilee, I have enough to do with those of Judea!
HERODES: I have been looking for you for a long time. I have been told that you
perform many miracles and I want someone like you to establish my
kingdom. You will be with me and do what I tell you and by your
power all nations will fear me.
PRIEST: It is a lie that it works miracles. Tell him to make you one and you will
see that he will not obey you.
HERODES: Is it true what they say about you? Why don't you perform a miracle
for me? As there is no wine Make this water into wine and my staff
into a sword! (Jesus remains silent).
PILATO: (To the people) Here it is customary that at the Passover I return a
prisoner to you Do you want me to release to you the king of the
Jews?
PILATO: (To the people)And what shall I do with him whom they call the king of
the Jews?
PILATO: (raises his arms to calm the people and ask for the floor) But what evil has
this man done?
SOLDIER 2: So he is the king of the Jews We will dress him as such! (picks up a
purple cape and puts it on) See it now, ha, ha, ha, ha.....
SOLDIER 3: Wait for it. If he is a king, he needs a crown (he pretends to make a crown
of thorns) A crown for a king (he places the crown on him) Your
Majesty, now he is a king.
SOLDIER 1: Your Majesty, here is your scepter (He hits him and spits at him).
(When the scourging was finished, they took Jesus and presented him to Pilate).
PILATO: Take it yourselves and crucify it, for I find no reason to condemn it.
VILLAGE 2: We have a Law, and according to that Law he must die, for he says
that he is the son of God! (Pueblo Grita).
VILLAGE 1: If you let him go free, you are not Caesar's friend! (Pueblo Grita).
PILATO: Captain, in company with him, crucify the bandits. Release Barrabas!
PRAYER - SINGING
(The soldiers escort Jesus and present him with the cross. The same is done with
thieves)

PRAYER - SINGING
JESUS: Yes, Mother, but the greatest of my sufferings is this bloody pain that
I cause you. These tears of yours, mother, break my heart into a
thousand pieces.
JESUS: My sacrifice and yours must be fulfilled. (Jesus makes an effort to get up
with the help of the soldiers) You get up, mother, and give me a hug for
the last time.
(Inside the march, Jesus staggers away; the centurion, annoyed, sends one of
those present to help Jesus).
CENTURION: (To the Cyrenean) You help this man with the cross!
SOLDIER: Let's see, help this man. (forces the Cyrenean and takes him to Jesus).
(On the way, Jesus takes up the cross again and follows the procession. A
woman approaches and wipes her face with a cloth).
4
VERONICA: Lord, you are suffering so much, let me wipe your face with this cloth.
(The woman steps aside and carefully holds the handkerchief in her hands.
When he wants to fold it, he notices the figure of the face printed on the
handkerchief, shows it to the people and exclaims) Miracle!
(Jesus, on his way, sees some women weeping for their sufferings. And he says to
them:)
JESUS: Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me. Weep rather for
yourselves and for your children; for the day will come when it will be
said: "Blessed are the women who neither bore nor nursed. Then it
will be said: "If only the hills could hide us! For, if this is how they
treat the green tree, what will they not do with the dry one?"
SOLDIER 3: (soldiers whip him and make him stand up) Walk! Or do you want me to
drag you along? (another) Walk, Galileo! Walk, king! ha,ha,ha!
Already on the Calvary, the soldiers pull his clothes off him.
VILLAGE 2: Jesus! If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!
NARRATOR: crucified two thieves: Dismas on his right and Gestas on his left. Over
his head they wrote: "This is Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
JESUS: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
DIMAS: (To Gestas) Shut up! Do you not fear God, being condemned to die
with Him? We do deserve punishment for our crimes, but this one,
what has he done... (To Jesus) Lord... remember me when you are in
your kingdom.
(Jesus looks around him and sees his mother with John) Woman, behold
your son. (Addressing Juan) Behold your mother.
JESUS: (looking at the sky)My God! My God, why have you forsaken me?
(Pause ) All has been
fulfilled.... (Pause) Father! Into your hands I
commend my spirit.
(Jesus tilts his head to one side and exhales. A soldier with a spear pierces Jesus'
side).
ARIMATEA: We have come for the body of Jesus; the procurator has granted us
permission to take it away for burial.
(Jesus is taken down and placed in Mary's arms. The body is then taken for
burial).
(They carry Jesus to the tomb. And two soldiers stand guard outside the tomb).
