Critical Analysis

National Bank of Pakistan is one of the largest banks of Pakistan. Internship at NBP gave me a chance to practically experience a government organization. During my internship I got practical experience that does not meet the theoretical concepts. This part of report is the essence of the internship, as this will help to understand the working environment of the bank, and to find relationship between what is written in books and what is actually going on in the organizations. I present here some issues. I found most of the things are not present in NBP. These factors are like, There are long processes for making a transaction in the bank. Especially, during salary withdrawals of government employees, a customer needs one or two hours to withdrawal his amount. The account opening department yet not has computerized facility, and NADRA verification has done by Burewala Branch, due to which customer have to wait for many days for opening account in the bank. Poor dealing and rude behavior with customer by the staff, it happens due to heavy work load. Dissatisfaction of staff creates there, absence and unpunctuality. The pension system is still depend of registers, due to which pensioner has to wait for long hours. There is great need of computerize system so that the procedure of pension checking has reduced. There is no facility for employees training. This situation creates difficulty for handing new technologies and challenges. Due to which staff hesitates to use new technologies, even old employees are not able to operate that. There is shortage of staff in Bank. Especially cash department is facing great workload. There is communication gap between top management and workers. They get fewer chances to communicate with each other Decision making process is just taken by the top management; some time employees are not involved in decision making process. There is lack of motivation in the bank. Employees just work and work hard as a routine. Lack of motivation unable to bring new innovation in the bank.

Suggestions
All the manual systems should be replace by the computerized system which will increase the efficiency of the work ATMs should be provided for convenience of customers that will help to attract customers Renovation and environment should be developed that will help to attract the customers. The process of transaction should be cut down in order to save time for both customers and bank. Staff strength should be increased and professional qualified persons should be recruited Proper training should be provided to the staff members that will increase the performance of the Bank. Every employee should be provided with a separate computer and with training to operate it. Job rotation and performance appraisal should be done by the top man agent that will increase job satisfaction and work efficiency. Every employee should mind his own business and it is the job of operations manager to keep a check on each employee whether he working efficiently or not. The bank should provide the proper system for the internee's training. The pension system should move on to computerized system which reduce the time and work load. Every branch should provide with online facility and especially account opening department. Female staff should be employed to deal with the female customers. There should be an information desk to provide the information and to receive the complaint of the customer in the bank. Procedure of receiving loans should be easy to facilitate the borrowers and to enhance profitability. The clearing section and account opening section should be separated. Different products should be introduced by bank like car financing scheme. 69

Conclusion
After overall analysis of National Bank of Pakistan, we have come to a point that it is a valuable asset of Government of Pakistan and also plays a key role in strategic national development. NBP has been proving its efficiency by recording the historic profit growth. The major reason behind this achievement is changing adopting the modern banking system. NBP is the largest commercial bank of Pakistan and is widely used as an agent for State Bank of Pakistan. NBP has great significance role in the banking history of Pakistan and also great contribution towards the economy and GDP. There are some problems faced by National Bank from its establishment to till now which have negative impact and damage its image. The most significant is government interference into recruitment policy, promotion and especially in advancing department of the bank. NBP has great burden of government services like pension payments and salaries to government employees. NBP is not gaining any advantage from these activities besides wasting of time. Another major factor is staff behavior, untrained and unqualified staff that greatly damaging the image of bank. Although, NBP has reported the highest ever profit by any financial institution in Pakistan but it still need improvement in many aspects which are well define in critical analysis. In the last we conclude that NBP is one of the very few profit generating Public Enterprises which is competing with the private financial institutions and acting as an agent of government.
