0 Introduction Language is a term most commonly used to refer to so called "natural languages" the forms of communication considered peculiar to humankind. By extension the term also refers to the type of human thought process which creates and uses language. Essential to both meanings is the systematic creation, maintenance and use of systems of symbols, each referring to concepts different from themselves. The most obvious manifestations are spoken languages, such as English or Chinese. For example the English word "language", derived ultimately from lingua, Latin for tongue, and "tongue" is still a word which can be used in English to refer to spoken language. But there are also written languages, and other systems of visual symbols, sign languages and so on. Although some other animals make use of quite sophisticated communicative systems, and these are sometimes casually referred to as animal language, none of these are known to make use of all of the properties that linguists use to define language in the strict sense. When discussed more technically as a general phenomenon then, "language" always implies a particular type of human thought which can be present even when communication is not the result, and this way of thinking is also sometimes treated as indistinguishable from language itself. English language as a lingua franca is a important medium of communication today. This is because English language has been used through world wide communication. Modern English is sometimes described as the first global lingua franca. English is the dominant international language in communications, science, business, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. The influence of the British Empire is the primary reason for the initial spread of the language far beyond the British Isles. Since World War II, the growing economic and cultural influence of the United States has significantly accelerated the adoption of English. A working knowledge of English is required in certain fields, professions, and occupations. As a result, over a billion people speak English at least at a basic level. English is one of six official languages of the United Nations.

Complete Report 1.1 Background of study The study was being conduct in order to get a several information needed to carried out the solution for the problems discussed. The study is concern about the problem in communication skills that occurs among the student. Since we realize that 2/3 amongs the students in UTHM are not able to speak and write in English correctly. That was the major problems why fresh graduates today were hard to find a job after they finish their study. The important of communication skills in present day is vital. Wherever we go, as long as we able to communicate with other people outside there surely we will never get lost from our way. In this study, Ill try to identify what is the actual problems why students were unable to communicate with others correctly using this language. Futhermore, at the end of this research, Ill try to come out with the best way on how student will overcome their problems of communicate in English and find the steps for improving of communicating skills in English.

Problem statement 1.2.1. Why there is many IPTAs students still unable to mastering in English language? 1.2.2. What is the problems that cause students weak in communication skills in English and what are the steps for improving communication skills in English?

Objectives 1.3.1. The main purpose of this study is to find a better way for improving in English. The investigation about the cultural regarding of communication with peer to peer gives a big impact to the investigator in the way of how they communicate to each other. From these point, a study of communication skills is conducted in order to distinguish the student into

Complete Report two appearance of communicate frequently or rarely communicate. Then, the data analyzed will show up the differences between the appearance. 1.4 Limitation of the study 1.4.1. This research is target among the student only. Due to limit of the time given, this research is doing on a few of selected students that represent the whole students in UTHM, but not been doing to all students. According to the questionaire, 8 representative from each faculty are been selected to answer the questionaire that they represent for their faculty. 1.4.2. The study is conducted in limited of budget. Due to the limitation of budget the study was done in critical condition.

Definition of terms 1.5.1. The concepts of this study is identify, overcome the problems, and finding the best way to improve communication skills in English.

Procedures The procedures for doing this study is through the methodology as follow; 1.6.1. Gathering information via questionaire, 1.6.2. Gathering information via observation, and 1.6.3. Gathering information via research using internet.

Expected results 1.7.1. At the end of this study, I was able to come out with the list of problems that make students weak of English, describe how to overcome the problems and give an examples of the steps to improve better in English language.

Complete Report 2.0 2.1 Findings and Discussions Findings and Discussions for Questionnaire The questionaire was divided into 6 faculties which is for each faculty will send 8 representative to answering the questionaire. The faculties are Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineeering (FKAAS), Faculty of Electric and Electrical Engineering (FKEE), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKMP), Faculty of Technology Management (FPT), Faculty of Multimedia Technology (FTMM) and Faculty of Technical Education (FPTek). 2.1.1. Based on the analysis shows that the responden from Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FKAAS) have the average age of all responden is between 20 to 22 years. The gender of te responden is male and female. In addition, almost all the repondens are the third years student in UTHM. They like English subject and they also quite frequently use English language when communicate with peer to peer.

They have an effort to improve their English communication skills and the alternatives that they use is learning English with e-kamus, often surfing the internet to find any kind of information that can improve their communication skills. Besides that, they also use alternatives such as

Complete Report frequently talks to friend in English even if they use a broken English, keep watching English movie and reading English newspaper. 2.1.2. Based on the analysis shows that the responden from Faculty of Electric and Electrical Engineering (FKEE) have the average age, gender and years of study same with FKAAS. Half of the respondens admits they like English subject. They always want to improve their English communication skills but everytimes when they face a problem such as their friend gave a negative feedback to them for that effort, their spirit will down and this is the main problem for them hard to improve their communication skills.

The alternatives that they use is reading English book a lot, speak English with friend and ask a motivation from lecturer. 2.1.3. Based on the analysis show that the responden from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKMP) have the average age between 19 to 23 years and the respondens are from first year student and third year student in UTHM. According to the analyzed data it was confidentally state that the student always been giving a motivation from their lecturer. The lecturer is like to use English language when teaching for her subject.

Complete Report 2.1.4. Faculty of Multimedia Technology come out with respondens that have age between 20 to 22 years and first year student in UTHM. The respondens realize they must change their perception of they will able to communicate in English even without put a effort from now. Because of that, one of the responden was started to improve his communication skills in English.

In the data of analysis given has shows that there is a lot problem detected among the respondens. The problem is they hard to speak in English because more likely to use Bahasa Melayu as a communication medium. Besides that, they are unable to communicate in English caused from less encourages from their family and take a perception that there is no used for learn more than one language. 2.1.5. The respondens from Faculty of Technical Education (FPTek) have a average age between 20 to 22 years and student of third years study in UTHM. Students of this faculty are not often use English when communicate with others. They are more prefer to use local language.

In contrast, almost the respondens agree that the English language as a Lingua Franca is the most important language in terms of communication around the world. They give a positive feedback for these question and states that English language is the language for technology and future language, globalization factors, and world wide language. 2.1.6. The respondens from Faculty of Technology Management (FPT) a average age between 20 to 25 years and the respondens is the first year student in UTHM. The data from analysis shown the students of this faculty often use English language whenever they communicate with other poeple. These facts analyze that the students from FPT is trying to improve their English communication skills even they know they must have a strategy plan to made up what they wish for. The respondens use a alternatives such as always listen English music, reading English books, and confident when speak English in public area.

Complete Report 2.2 Findings and Discussion for Observation 2.2.1. Summary of the observation The communication skills the student used when communicates with their friend is local language (Bahasa Melayu) and international language (English). Through the analysis done in the several days in the UTHM shows that the majority of the students use local language daily for communicate to other poeple. Through the observation also conclude the usage of the international language only 35% in a week and the student use international language only when they communicates with foreigner student, meet their lecturer and for the special event such as English week and many more.

The data was plotted in the chart above. According to the chart above, male is the highest user of local language which is 85% of usage compare to female which only 65% of usage. The highest user of international language (English) is female which is 35% of usage and for male user only contribute 15% for the usage of international language (English). Therefore, female has contribute more to the percentage of the usage of international language (English) compare to male.

Complete Report 3.0 Conclusion Start improving your Communication Skills with the better steps. Here I include the step to improve communication skills with the best way. Firstly, you should making a great first impression, then better public speaking and presentation ensure your words are always understood, speaking to an audience - communicate complex ideas successfully, active listening - hear what people are really saying, effective email - how to communicate powerfully by email, AIDA: attention-interestdesire-action - inspiring action with your writing, and lastly facilitation - guiding an event through to a successful conclusion. A failure to communicate, a break down in communication, a mix up of communication signals, poor communication skills, and a bad communicator are terms we hear all too often whenever things go wrong. Transcending professional, personal, romantic, and familial relationships, these communication problems can happen in all walks of life. They can lead to something major, like a lost merger or a fight with a family member, to something seemingly minor, like showing up for a dinner date three hours late or putting a company file in the wrong place. Whatever troubles they summon in the home and work place, communication problems can be avoided simply by having proper communication skills.

Recommendations Communication skills are a part of nearly everything we do every day. During

television shows, communication skills help characters relate to each other. When you go to the supermarket, communication skills help you find what aisle the toilet paper resides. When you talk to your boss, communication skills help you ask for that raise you know you deserve. When you talk to your teenage kids, communication skills help them to see how uncool you are. When you fight with your spouse, communication skills help you to prove how you are right as usual.
