(In a bar, Curley is sat on his own and a few feet away Candy, Slim and George are

sitting together. All drinking) Slim: Youll be aright

Candy: (cutting in) I gotta stake to bind but we need a hundred mo Slim: Now I just happen to have a piece saved up like George: Really

Candy: Yeah it was the best thing you coulda done, you wouldnt of wanted him in a booby hatch (Curley walks back in) George: (drinks) Yeah but we were together, yknow, we were best mates, I shouldnt a done it, but I ad to. Curley: (shouting over) you guys are yella, he was a murderer, a crazy bastard. Hell, Id a like to kill him mself. George: You cant talk about yella he scared the hell outa you Curley: What a ya talking about he was a savage, a Candy: (interrupts) Shut the hell up, that man was a real nice fella, twice the man youll ever be. You let your wife run around wild; you were bound to have a big problem. Slim: Yeah. You lay offa George, hes more a man than youll ever be. (Mutual Agreement) (Curley storms out) (Everyone settles down) George: Thank you (hands over money) George (downs drink) (mumbles) We cant get a stake to buy the ranch now Slim: Fella, does this ranch got a name? Slim: (curiously) What ranch? Ranchman: No I just calls her home (Candy and George look at each other) Candy: I know! Why dont we call her Lennies Ranch? Candy: (excitedly) We was going to buy a ranch about 10 mile from here, George knows the old people that lives there. Theyd be a piece of land, a good stove an chickens. An we were gonna live off the fatta the land. (sadly) but now we cant. (Mutual Agreement) George: (Suddeny, excitedly) You should come with us! Slim: I could But when will it be? Curley: You guys, I didnt mean nothing for insulting Lennie. Now I been hearing you talking and I dont want ya to leave. I gotta have friends. (Pause, desperately) Ill can ya. Youll be canned fo sho. Slim: Yo shut yo face. We gonna leave this place in one month and if you try and stop us Curley: Well take me with you! My reputations as bust as my hand now, cmon, I got money George: Y aint coming. Never. Lets go guys. We got barley to buck an a stake to make. (George, Candy and Slim leave, leaving Curley on his own, Curley stays behind sitting by himself, upset) Narrator: ONE MONTH LATER (On the doorstep of a ranch. Candy, Slim and George, with money in their hands) Ranchman: Well here she is then (hands over keys) its all clean, you got some corn to the chickens, and some alfalfa to the rabbits.
