statement of purpose

as a senior electronics & communications engineering (ece)

student at sr engineering college, i am receiving a particularly well-
rounded education in engineering with the support of a good teaching
faculty and laboratory facilities. from the beginning of my
undergraduate studies, i took special interest in the field of
communication and began to put extra work in those courses related
to communication which were included in my course curricula. the
motivation for me to have special interest in communication cources
along with my regular ece courses is that there is a strong demand
for interdisciplinary educated engineers and scientists in the
telecommunication , mobile communication, electronics and general
industry, and that very often competencies from both fields are
needed at the same time. though i didn’t scored good grades in
subjects like ‘satellite communication’, ‘mobile communication &
‘microprocessors & interfacing’. i still have good knowledge in those
subjects.i have done projects on wireless communication
(bluetooth,wi-fi,wi-max) in my 5th sem electronics corporation of india
limited, which is one of the top 5 electrical unit in india. in dis industry
every thing is automated. in my 7th sem i have done a project on role
of optical fibers in the field of communication at surana telicom private
limited. put in extra effort for my current courses ‘computer networks’
and ‘operating systems’ along with my regular ece courses. so i plan
to take up a graduate program in electrical engineering with electives
in computer courses at your university.

in preparation for this work, i have developed a strong

background in computers in addition to my coursework in electronics
& communication engineering. given the current demand for
increased computing capacity and reliable networks, this background
should prove beneficial. for example, today most enterprise
businesses involve explosive transaction environments and
addressing of a variety of applications, database, web serving, and
utility services. meeting the needs of this critical operating
environment requires a server with mainframe credentials like
scalability for increased parallel computing and also requires
hardware switches capable of connecting several machines over high
speed networks for quick data serving.
while recent advances in computer hardware alone promise
potential tenfold increases in speed, truly significant jumps in
computing power (speedups of, say, a thousand-fold) will require
changes in the way that massive computer networks access and
share information and the optical technologies connecting them. this
is a field that has opened up numerous possibilities and posed
unprecedented challenges to the enthusiastic researcher. the latest
breakthrough at the bandwidth challenge at supercomputing '06 held
in tampa, florida being a datadirect networks' s2a9550 capable of
delivering 32.5 gb/s with 1.46 pb to indiana university’s big red
supercomputer. my work in undergraduate studies should prove
useful for both the study of existing technologies and the
development of new ones specifically designed for the parallel
architecture of tomorrow’s supercomputers and high speed networks.

to strengthen my background i undertook a research project on

analysis and testing of twin channel radio during my
undergraduate studies. the project primarily focuses on point-to-point
communication in full duplex mode. i acquired good practical
knowledge about the various communication systems and their
applications in both civilian and military purposes. i am also currently
working on my final semester project titled “real time operating
system using embedded c++” intended for various embedded
applications. this project gives me an insight of the basic architecture,
programming and applications of the 8051 microcontroller, which is
the microcontroller we have incorporated in our design. i also
presented a paper titled ‘carbon nanotubes’ which is one of the
emerging technologies that has unprecedented applications in every
field of engineering.

my career goal is to become a computer systems architect.

after completing my graduate and post-graduate work, i wish to focus
on developing technologies for the emerging markets and addressing
the challenges of making computing more accessible and usable for
people and businesses around the globe. i am confident that my
research efforts will fructify into meaningful contributions.

i would be pleased to join the distinguished class enrolling at your

university in fall 2007. the departmental web site revealed a very
strong faculty involved in extensive research in the area of
‘networking’ and ‘computers and digital systems’. this has
strengthened my resolve to study at the umkc. i understand the kind
of commitment, dedication and perseverance a demanding graduate
program calls for and i would like to assure that i am setting on the
path with complete preparedness for the task up ahead. overall, i feel
that university of missouri at kansas city can help me achieve my
goals by preparing me to fulfill my obligation to myself, to society, and
to my profession.
