Strategies (goulding)
The information provided here is strictly about the strategies Ive been implementing in TS. How I imported them. How I applied them. How I optimized them and what they are. Furthermore, this section is attempting to document all the information I have about the strategies and where you can locate any documentation you may need about these strategies. Strategy notification alert Its important to know when a strategy signal is given. If you are running four strategies, then you cant watch them all at once. You need to set up a signal to alert you to enter the trade. Youll handle all strategies and order in TradeManager Window. (note: TradeManager is one (1) word.) In the user guide look at TradeManager Window for any information concerning this section of TS. Backtesting
To backtest a strategy you need historical data. TS has a certain amount of data on their system. To backtest with a large amount of data you must download data history from them or import the data from Tick Data (Or any dbase with data. Im using Tick Data as an example because this is the dbase we are using at GHCO) Im starting another document strictly dedicated to the backtesting process as I go through it. Im naming the document Backtesting in TradeStation. Look for it on the shared data base. About the Download Scheduler The Download Scheduler helps manage the scheduling of large data requests from the TradeStation Data Network. The TradeStation Data Network has certain short-term data allowances. If you make a data request that exceeds a short-term data allowance, the Download Scheduler Request dialog box will appear so that you can schedule a download for the amount of data exceeding the allowance. You can view all pending downloads in the Download Scheduler window. For example, say the short-term allowance for tick data is 5 days. If you open a new MSFT chart for 50 days of tick data, the Download Scheduler Request dialog box appears so you can set up a download for the 45 days of tick data that exceed the shortterm allowance. If you open a second MSFT chart for 30 days of tick data, you will not need to schedule another download because there is an existing download scheduled for 45 days of MSFT tick data that will cover the second chart. In this case, the Download Scheduled dialog box will display, listing all pending downloads (including the symbol, interval, and range of data).

When a Chart Analysis window is waiting for a download, it will indicate this status by displaying a yellow square with the letters "PD", as shown below. This pending download indication will appear before each symbol in the chart status line. If you hover over this indication with your pointer, you will see a "Pending data for" tool tip that lists the pending download information. Scheduling a Download If your data request exceeds the short-term data allowance, the Download Scheduler Request dialog box appears automatically. There is a list at the top of the dialog box displaying the symbol(s), interval(s), and range(s) for the data that you are requesting. When the Download Scheduler Request dialog box appears 1. In the Download Scheduler Request dialog box, select the symbol(s) for which you want to schedule a download. You can click Select All to select all of the symbols in the list or Clear All to clear the check mark from all of the symbols so that they are no longer selected. Note If you do not want to schedule a download for a particular symbol, clear the check mark from the corresponding check box and it will not be included in the download request. 2. Select when you would like to download the data, either the As soon as possible option or the During off-peak hours option. 3. Click OK. Understanding the TradeStation Data Network The TradeStation Data Network provides the real-time data for all of the analysis tools available with TradeStation, such as the RadarScreen (Quotes) window, Hot Lists window, and Chart Analysis window. The real-time data includes streaming data from the Nasdaq, NYSE, AMEX, and OPRA exchanges- all delivered through the Internet. The TradeStation Data Network also supports extended hours trading so that your RadarScreen (Quotes), Market Depth, and Time & Sales windows will update in realtime with pre- and post-market trades. The following list describes the type of market data (real-time and historical) available for each TradeStation window

Matrix Combines real-time Bid, Ask, and Price data with a Volume scale and Order/Position status for the selected symbol. In addition, the Matrix window displays color-coded cells that indicate key price levels useful for monitoring market activity. Chart Analysis

Stocks and indexes - Tick-by-tick data is available for thirty days back, one-minute data for ten years back, and daily data for more than 30 years back. Futures Tick by tick data for thirty days back, one-minute data since January1982, pit data for individual contracts (delivery month/year) since 1970, and back-adjusted continuous contracts since the 1960s. Options - Data availability for options contracts is similar to that for futures but will vary based on how heavily the contract is traded. Note Futures and options contracts with expirations well into the future may have little or no data due to light trading. For example, as of November 15, 2001, the December 2001 E-Mini S&P 500 might average over 30,000 trades a day. However, a contract that expires further out in the future, such as the December 2003 E-Mini S&P 500 will most likely be far less actively traded.

RadarScreen (Quotes) This window gives you access to real-time data quotes including over 70 informational columns such as Last, Intraday High, and Net Percent Change. A number of other informational columns are also available in the Market Depth window such as Net Change, Open, and Volume Total. Time & Sales In this window, you can track the bid, ask, and trade record for a symbol using real-time or historical data. The Time & Sales window also offers informational columns such as Price, Size, and Date. Hot Lists This window displays ranked lists for Nasdaq, AMEX, and NYSE securities, sorted by highest gainers or losers (by percentage or dollars) or most active (by trades or volume). You can also from a number of informational columns such as Last, Open, and Net Percent Change. The data in the Hot Lists window is updated every 30 seconds. News This window gives you access to full-text news stories from sources such as Business Wire, PR Newswire, Internet Wire, and the Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service. You can also move your pointer over any symbol in a storys text and receive an ActiveQuote containing current price information for that symbol. MaxBarsBack
Maximum Number of Bars Study Will Reference Setting When you apply an analysis technique to your chart or grid, the analysis technique requires a specific amount of data to perform its calculations. Therefore, when you apply an analysis technique, you must make sure you have specified how many bars of data the analysis technique will need to perform its calculations. You do this using the Max number of bars study will reference setting, commonly referred to as MaxBarsBack. The MaxBarsBack setting is located in the Properties tab of your analysis technique. As an example, let's say that you are applying the Relative Strength Index (RSI) Indicator to a chart. This indicator needs to reference 50 bars of data in order to make its calculation. Therefore, the MaxBarsBack needs to be set to at least 50. The Max number of bars study will reference option has two settingsAuto-Detect and User Specified. Tip For detailed information on MaxBarsBack, and how to change the specifications in the Properties dialog box, see Formatting an Indicator. Auto-Detect is the default for the Max number of bars study will reference setting. This enables TradeStation to automatically detect the number of bars needed to perform the calculations required by the analysis technique. The User Specified option enables you to specify how many bars of data your analysis technique is to use for calculations. If you use the User Specified option, it is recommended that you always set the Max number of bars study will reference to 50 unless you need more than 50 bars of data to perform calculations. It is important to remember that an indicator, which has Analysis Commentary or alerts enabled, will need at least 50 bars of data to reference in order to accurately determine market conditions. Note All Analysis Commentary Indicators, because they can access Analysis Commentary, need 50 bars to calculate. If you select User-Defined, make sure that the Max number of bars study will reference setting is at least 50 bars. In this case, we recommend you set MaxBarsBack to Auto-Detect. If you do not use the correct MaxBarsBack setting, you will receive a Runtime Error message when you apply the indicator or study to your chart.
