4.3. The Condition Process and its effect on the different organs

Cephalo-Pelvic Disproportion arises whenever the pelvic canal cannot accommodate the fetal head, or is too narrow to allow the fetal head to pass through for a spontaneous delivery. It is not considered a disease or is there any abnormal development in the fetus or the mother in the process of pregnancy. The abnormality lies in the fact that for some reasons, the size of the pelvic canal of the mother cannot accommodate the normal size of the fetal cranium; either the fetal head is too large for the canal, or the pelvic canal is too narrow for the fetal head. Hence, there is no abnormality in the individual changes occurring in the mother or in the baby during pregnancy. However the resulting condition, CPD, becomes an abnormality in that the fetal head cannot progress through the pelvic canal.
