This plot can be discusses with STs ONLY. At Conclave 2011, a plot was run in conjunction with the Year of Fire, whereby a number of Camarilla PCs were involved in a fight to take out a Sabbat Cardinal, in a joint effort with the Sabbat. As a result of this action, those Camarilla members who were not only present but were later informed, grew aware of the "Baali threat." This resulted in the final gift of the evening for Cock Robin, the gift of a PC-created army. Quite a few Brujah volunteered to join in service. This both pleased and concerned Pascek, as well as the other members of the Justicariate, considering these were his own archons. Pascek had already expressed a concern, as this trouble was eating at him in no small way. Pascek, in conjunction with several others, has contacted several old NPCs: Khentik-Kurt, Lady Seina of Muscovy, Monferrat to oversee a secret police of sorts to ensure that both the army itself does not get out of control and that the main ideals of Camarilla are uphelp in light of this threat. These three NPCs are all that are known to remain of the Ashen Knights, who will be rebuilt as a secret police. They are given semi-automony under the guidance and controll of these NPCs, as needed, but this will be a PCdriven response, one that has already been taking place, but will now be coordinated in secret. Both to fight against this new threat and to monitor the loyalty of the Camarilla citizens who may wander into the company of the Camarilla's enemies for the common purpose of slaying a common enemy. As the Brujah Coordinator and the Camarilla Coordinator, will be called to act with this "Cruce Signati" in a multitude of chronicles under their rules, their staffs, and their jurisdiction, it was felt to be prudent to propose this as an addendum. There will be a non-binding packet that will only be binding upon each PC's agreement andf their ST's agreement to a BA. Finally, this is the condition IC with the others, including Cock Robin, for his removal of his edict: "Only if loyalty can be policed from the shadows." Sincerely, George Domit, Brujah Coordinator Rojir McCrady, Camarilla Coordinator
Background Information:
The actions of the Year of Fire have necessitated a sense of urgency and a need to combat the evil that abounds. Elders long since forgotten, seek to re-establish their order, albeit without the advantage of their fallen, forgotten brethren, and the artifacts the order once held. The remaining, now conscious Gatherers of the orders, Montferrat(Nosferatu) and Khentik-Khert(Brujah) seek to recruit new membership from the Camarilla, in hopes that their new blood will provide the edge needed to stop the onslaught of the Infernal plague now prominent across the World.
Plot Arc
Information secured by the Nosferatu Montferrat and Khentik-Khert. The elders Montferrat and Khentik-Khert who are members of an ancient coterie called the Gatherers, now seek out members of the Camarilla to form a new secret order from the Ashes of the Old, to deal with the complications brought upon the earth by the rise of Moloch. This new order founded in ancient traditions will use whatever tools they have at their disposal to deal with the threats to the Masquerade and indeed the whole world, brought about by the actions stemming from Moloch and his ever growing army.

relics. Like many things from the Long Night, the Order would not survive to the Modern Nights. With the death of the age of chivalry and the coming purge of the Catholic Church in later crusades, the Order was all but destroyed. Many of the elders that once claimed membership in the Order and have survived to Modern times have since fallen from their path a long time ago. Forged in the fires of the Crusade, the Order of the Bitter Ashes would seem to have been nothing more then interesting legend or story for Cainite history. With faith in the modern nights falling to the way side of science and reason, it would appear the Order of the Bitter Ashes would be lost forever. Unless of course, there was at least one elder who might not have fallen, and who still remembers his holy duty and his oath to the Order of the Bitter Ashes. This course considers the ideological basis of crusading from the time of the First Crusade (1095-99) to the present day. It examines how the crusades were justified by those who preached them and those who took part, and why others criticised the crusades. It also considers the contribution chivalry made to crusading ideology and how crusading became an essential part of knighthood, as well as the contribution which crusading ideology has made to national identities. The crusades were never referred to as such by their participants. The original crusaders were known by various terms, including fideles Sancti Petri (the faithful of Saint Peter) or milites Christi (knights of Christ). They saw themselves as undertaking an iter, a journey, or a peregrinatio, a pilgrimage, though pilgrims were usually forbidden from carrying arms. Like pilgrims, each crusader swore a vow (a votus), to be fulfilled on successfully reaching Jerusalem, and they were granted a cloth cross (crux) to be sewn into their clothes. This "taking of the cross", the crux, eventually became associated with the entire journey; the word "crusade" (coming into English from the Medieval French croisade and Spanish cruzada)[65] developed from this.
purposes. A week later, two shadowy figures offered Brother Jaroslav a way to gain great power for his crusade. They spoke with magnetism and persuasiveness, and they radiated an aura of power. Jaroslav took these eerie, otherworldly visitors to be agents of God and agreed to join their cause. The Embrace changed Jaroslavs faith in God. No longer did he walk in Gods light, for the Lord had forsaken him to the darkness. Jaroslav felt he had given his soul so that he might more easily purify others. The tenuous grip he had on reality faltered, and he threw himself fully into the world of the undead. His new parish, a coterie of Brujah who hunted in the city of Munich, convinced Jaroslav that the vampiric world was as full of corruption as the Church was. In fact, many undead supposedly masqueraded as clerics. These Brujah allowed Jaroslav to destroy vampires they demonstrated to be agents of Satan. Often, these targets were simply enemies of Jaroslavs coterie and sire, but soon Jaroslav branched out independently to ones who meddled in the spiritual realm, and he destroyed Cainites whom he believed to be taking advantage of gullible mortals. The coterie had no lack of enemies to persecute, and Jaroslavs first century passed in a haze of blood and gore. Those carmine nights ended with the founding of the Camarilla. After the Convention of Thorns, a tired Jaroslav decided to leave the ken of the world and trust this new sect to curb the excesses of the undead. He hoped that hiding among humankind would put an end to those Kindred posing as angels or spirits. Upon finding an ancient Roman crypt, Jaroslav entered torpor. Jaroslav rose again in the mid-17th century. The Camarilla was still strong, but during Jaroslavs long sleep the Sabbat had attained some prominence. Jaroslav saw fighting these Kindred as his new calling, perceiving in them every trait and evil that he had railed against centuries before. Gathering a coterie of other vampires, he established himself as the scourge of the wicked Sabbat to strike fear into even the most secure of cardinals. For the next 200 years, Jaroslav continued his crusade, and for his efforts was officially made an archon in 1834. Jaroslav served nominally under the old Brujah justicar, Carlak (who served multiple terms as justicar), but the archon often acted alone. With a diligence and directness that bordered on obsession, he and his agents rooted out Sabbat or anarchs who ignored the Traditions. By the mid- 20th century, Jaroslav had come full circle. He stood at the vanguard of an institution as calcified and corrupt as the Church had been in his youth. Jaroslavs election to the post of justicar is a move to add some experience and drive to the new corps of Camarilla enforcers. He has many tried and true methods of investigation, judgment and punishment. Most of these techniques are quite severe, if not vicious, in their execution, involving mutilation, coerced confessions and worse. Indeed, Jaroslav seems to have taken his cues from the Inquisitors of yore. Some other archons and justicars, notably the Tremere, Anastasz di Zagreb, have noted that Jaroslavs edicts and actions have lately become bloodier and swifter. Jaroslavs destiny had just begun, fate would seem to guide his hand once more in a time when the world needs God the most. In 2010 the Infernal Plague, spoken of in Ancient times, swept across the globe once more. The Camarilla by its nature is an organization devoid of Faith. Jaroslav is an anomaly among its halls for his faith and devotion he cares with him. With so few like him, it would apear as though his struggle with faith, god, and the world would be alone. Though Moloch and many dark things have risen, it was not the only thing to rise from the earth once more into the Final Nights.
Camarilla's interest in the Carthaginians is sufficiently piqued. Sabbat might support such cities, insofar as they threaten the Masquerade and they get to revel in their vampirism. The Baali and Infernal threat to the world has become a serious issue; no aspect of vampire society is unaware of the growing Infernal problem, though many do not know about the Baali. Elder Lasombra among the Sabbat and members of the Sabbat Inquisition begin to recognize signs they've seen before, signs that seem to indicate the Baali have risen again and are attempting to wake their demonic masters. Privately, dialogue is opened with various Camarilla officials who have the global resources to track down the Carthaginians. (Camarilla Officials is a distinction that can include PCs holding the offices of Prince and/or Archon.) Feeling pressure from the Inner Circle, Jaroslav Pascek will quietly remove his edict in regards to Camarilla and Sabbat interaction. While Pascek does not personally support any interaction, he will keep his opinions to himself (or not, because Im an Jusiticar, I am an Brujah and this beasts deserve find the peace by my hand, by the grace of our Lord). Faced with these issues, Jaroslav fears for the soul of the Camarilla. Both from the Baali and those who would listen to the poisonous words of the Sabbat. While it may become necessary for open hostilities between the Sabbat and Camarilla to cool from time to time for the greater good of all (and Jaroslav accepts the fact that eternal open warfare between the two is perhaps not the best recourse all the time), Jaroslav faced the very real fact the Camarilla may become rotted from within. As such he turned to find an answer. A way to keep the heart and soul of the Camarilla pure from any deals of the Sabbat. But Jaroslav found none he believed whose soul was strong enough to aid him in such endeavour. That is when an ancient part of history returned with an offer.
The Beginning
After the first major appearance of the Carthaginian and Baali vampires in South America. They will come to South America looking for Troiles Sword, which had been lost to history. This will be the first major sign in South America that there is an ancient vampire awake. After the events with The Blade of Enoch, Jaroslav Pascek will be confronted with the option to report the events of what occurred to him to the Camarilla on the whole. This could call the attention of other Elders of Clan Brujah. Should this occur, the Brujah Office will send all of its Archons to investigate what has happened, not truly believing the claims of Moloch having risen. The Archons will go around Brazil, collecting information for the Brujah Justicar and the Inner Circle. Once the findings are gathered, the Camarilla will be forced to address the very real issue of Moloch and the danger he presents to the world. Due the pressure of the Inner Circle, Pascek will remove the Edict allowing the interaction between Camarilla and Sabbat. This is the start of the Secret Police of the Camarilla, the Cruce Signati. Jaroslav is offered knowledge and aid by elder cainites Montferrat and Khentik-Khert, who never fell from the Order of Bitter Ashes and have been waiting patiently for this moment. With Jaroslavs need and faith the elders gave him focus and direction. Bringing the ancient traditions of the Order of the Bitter Ashes to the Camarilla and Jaroslav, the elders hope their beliefs might live once again. This new order, born from the old, must hide in the shadows. Most members of the Camarilla are not religious, and many will want to abuse the new rights presented to them (ow that they are allowed to deal with the Sabbat). Jaroslavs answer has been found. The Cruce Signati is formed. A secret order to police the faith of the Camarilla and keep the old traditions alive of the Order of the Bitter Ashes. Montferrat and Khentik-Khert will lead this secret organization, ostensibly, and hide any and all involvement on the part of the Brujah Justicar. Though it is his actions that have given rise to the order, he well recognizes the implications of knowledge of his involvement. He therefore relinquishes any and
all visible control within the order to the Gatherers for the time being (Should Pascek change his mind, there would of course be an amendment of the plot sent to Council)
Concepts of chivalry and knighthood are very much in evolution in the 1197. The modern perception of cultural homogeneity across medieval Europe is seriously flawed, and the role of the knight changes from region to region. Only in the past century have the fires of the Crusades and the songs of the troubadours retained any real sense of an overall idea of chivalry. Because of all this, the basic definition that follow are - the best - stereotypes. They exist only to give some basic context to the details in the this and later chapters. Cruce Signati has one major objective: Protect the relics of the Camarilla (the traditions, the members, the faith, the humanity). This secret society will exist as secret police in the Camarilla .The goal is not combat characters, or assassinations, etc. The Order seeks political characters, investigation, competent, characters who can fill the spot and make sure that Camarilla vampires are not tainted with dealings with the Sabbat.
Khentik-Khert
7th generation Brujah, Childe of Mezekht. Khentik-Khert was a young man when Akhenaton took the throne. His sire was a Brujah embittered by lifetimes of struggle in an ideological battle he never explaineed fully to Khentik-Khert. He knows only that his Embrace was a sort of desperate move, a test to see whether he could retain his fundamental
good cheer as a vampire. His sire said that he would continue to watch his childe and act to reward or destroy Khetik-Khert once the sire felt the issue of vampiric optimism had been settled. Khetik-Khert has never seen his sire since. Khentik-Khert has been fascinated by Jewish thought ever since the Exodus and diligently studies developments in Christian theology; for him, the Sun remains fundamental, and he treats new insights as further clues to Atons plans. Khentik-Khert believes hes retained his good cheer but worries that he may yet prove unsatisfactory to his sire. The order is part a way of earning more merit in the eyes of that unseen watcher. The Egyptian travels pilgrimage routes, talking with pilgrims about their motives for going to holy sites. He listens in particular for tales involving holy artifacts. In his guise as an earnest man seeking signs of Gods presence, he gathers information about where relics worth protecting now lie, then passes the necessary details on to relic-harvesting Knights. Khentik-Khert was an early advocate of the idea of founding the order and gives it his enthusiastic support.
Montferrat
7th generation Nosferatu During and post the fall of the Orders previous incarnation, Montferrat has striven to maintain as much of the order and its history as possible. Having lost many of the artifacts during Torpor, he has at least striven to maintain the sanctity of the IDEA the Order represented. Finding very little in the way of redeeming value amongst the Sabbat, he has looked to the Camarilla for the new Orders knights. It is thru the value of his Nosferatu contacts that he has come to know of the modern worlds Kindred Warriors and Spiritual leaders, and he has chosen a roster of what he feels may be the best hope for dealing with the oncoming threats.
Resolution
Once the Year of Fire Plot is resolved, the Order may continue, but that will largely be at the continuance
FAQ
I don't believe this would undermine Princes, because I believe they don't have any official authority. If they want some, they'd probably have to BECOME Princes. Just to make this clear, they are a'secret group'. This group will gather information, rumors, influence, etc, to monitor interactions with the sabbat and against who deal with those whose become tainted by them (In addition to their ither oaths.). The cold war will start after Pascek removes his edict about interactions between the camarilla and the sabbat. They're a secret organization, as such they have no official authority within the Camarilla at large. A meber of the Order who is caught, would sooner die then ever reveal the truth, and should the truth ever become known, the Brujah Justicar will deny the existence of any such organization, as well as use his weight in the Camarilla to reinforce that point.. BUT If the other justicars should found out about the Cruce Signati, it is likely they will be *pissed* that Pascek went behind their backs to make a secret police force that answers only to him (Strife between Justicars is good, they shouldnt like each other anyways). This organization is almost self Governing, minus a little nudges here and there from Khentek and Montferrat. They (The Secret Police) have to work inside the laws and if they step outside of them and are caught, the rest can say it was never the intention and let him die instead of sacrificing the collectivity. There could also have an unspoken arrangment to try to get the Brujah justicariate to "punish" those who are caught. Basically not losing the information and just disposing of the body, but preserving the influences, informations and contacts they had gathered. This plotline was created to work between Camarilla and Anarch genre. The Cruce Signati is not the Order of the Bitter Ashes. Rather it has its base and history founded in that Order. As such vampires that join are not on the Road of Heaven, but rather humanity (which the Camarilla encourages). Additionally they do not drink from the holy grail and become grail knights, like the order once did. The Holy Grail has long been lost, and that order of knights is long since gone. The Cruce Signati are not the Grail Knights of old.
Binding Agreement
Here is the most important parts of the binding agreement between the Brujah Office, player and Storyteller for those who join the order. A. Should it be necessary to run any in-character (IC) scenes at locations controlled by either Coordinator office, or with NPCs controlled by those offices, out-of-character (OOC) administrative control over the scene and The Character will be held by the respective Coordinator. i. In his first month after Coordinators elections, neither Coordinator can start a new scene, without the approval of The Player and the respective Storytellers. B. Brujah and Camarilla Coordinator reserve the right to remove the The Character from play, for no more than one month, with no need for previous consent from the The Players Storytelling staff. C. Brujah and Camarilla Coordinator reserve the right to order The Character to travel to other areas as IC plot develops. i. this does not mean The Player has to travel, only The Character; D. The Brujah and Camarilla Coordinator reserve the right to, at any time, administratively kill The Character as a consequence for any in-character (IC) actions taken. Guidelines for this degree of action will be outlined in the section 4.B.
E. The Character shall never willingly divulge information that was discovered or imparted while The Character was serving as an member of the order, unless so authorized. The Character shall never willingly divulge any information that they know, through common sense, they should not divulge. i. In-character, this is explained by use of elder (or greater) level disciplines by NPCs. The Storyteller staff perhaps will consider red-lines if this provision was violated inadvertently. Failing that, In-character (IC) repercussions will be decided on an individual basis by the Brujah Coordinator and Camarilla Coordinator. ii. This prohibition may be waved, on a case by case basis, by either the Brujah or the Camarilla Coordinator. iii. If there is a dispute as to whether certain information is fit to divulgation, The Brujah and/or The Camarilla Coordinator have the final say, before or after the fact. F. It is the right of the Brujah and Camarilla Coordinators to know what's happening with the character. i. The in-character (IC) mechanism is a monthly check-up by NPCs using Elder or hifher level disciplines. ii. There is no need to describe this scene as it is a very mundane and routine procedure that will only cause a problem for The Character if The Character has committed a violation. iii. This check will find any supernatural persuasion (such as uses of Dominate or lingering Presence powers), any violations of a Tradition (noting that Hospitality and Destruction are irrelevant in certain situations), any unauthorized connections with the Sabbat, any Blood Bonds or other relationships that may compromise The Characters reputation in the Camarilla, loyalty to the Brujah Justicars Office, and/or embarrass the Brujah Office or Camarilla Genre. iv. These check-ups can be done regardless of distance, and are often done without The Characters knowledge. v. It is the responsibility of the Storyteller and The Player to inform the Brujah and Camarilla Coordinators of any such situations within one month of the situation occurring. vi. If there is a question about whether the situation would qualify, erring on the side of caution is required. vii. In case of a contradiction between The Player and his/her ST staff, evidence will be requested, as per Coordinator Bylaws section 3.C.ii.3, so that the Coordinator can make a decision.
