The chosen genre we have chose to base our work on is genre of a'Thriller'.

A Thriller is a specific type of genre used in films, which has many elements such as suspense, excitement and tension incorporated in to it. Thrillers were first used in films in the1920s-1940s and continued to be used throughout films as one of the main genres within the film industry. Thrillers have a huge influence on the viewer's mood by creating a high sense of anticipation, anxiety, and tension which keep the viewers engaged, and keeps them wanting to find out what the ultimate climax of the film will be. The genre of a Thriller, has many sub-genres which include: Psychological Thrillers Crime Thrillers Horror Thrillers Supernatural Thrillers ect. Thrillers are used to give the viewer, high anticipation, suspense and tension as they want to know what is going to happen next. However, many Thrillers include the element of a 'Clifhanger, to create even more suspense, as the viewer in hen left wondering what is going to happen net, and are left on 'the edge of their seats', and these devices such as cliffhangers are used frequently within Thrillers as they are a vital element in keeping the audience engaged. Thrillers are usually based on a victims point of view, and are usually quite fast-paced with lots of action and frights to keep the viewers adrenaline high, and to keep the suspense continuing, until the final climax of the film, In Thrillers a main feature within this genre is that there are a protagonist and an antagonist, which are always make very obvious to the viewers, so they can understand who is the 'good character' and vice-versa. In Thrillers the typical stereotype is that, the protagonist is usually a woman, seen as innocent and vulnerable, whereas the antagonist is a male, portrayed as dominant and strong. This allows the audience to be able to identify themselves with the characters as they follow typical stereotypes. There are many other characteristics to a Thriller, such as; there is usually 'menacing atmosphere' and Thrillers usually portray the world and the society we live in as being, 'dark, dangerous and courrupt'. A Thriller is also designed to have an influence on the audience, creating a sense of fright, fear and terror, and this influence is what makes the audience want to know what the ultimate climax of the movie is, and how the film is going to end. Another interesting element of the Thriller genre is that, background music is usually incorporated into the film during a build-up or suspense moment, which causes even more suspense and stresses the situation. Also the lighting used with a Thriller is usually very dim and dark to create a eerie and cold atmosphere to add to the tension.
