Access Providers A business that provides individuals and organizations access to the Internet for free or for a fee
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
A company that provides access to the Internet and other related services, such as Web site building and virtual hosting

Responsibilities of an ISP
Providing and maintaining a connection to the Internet Support the hardware and software needed to service that connection To protect their site and network from external threats such as viruses, hacker attacks and other illegal activities Provide 24-hour customer service and technical support

What is Internet Address?
also called an IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a number that uniquely identifies each computer or device connected to the internet. o Consist of a four part number, separated by periods o The number in each group is between 0 and 255

A unique 32-bit number assigned to network devices that use Internet Protocol

IP address points to the location on the server that contains your web site files.

Relation between Domain Names and IP address


The domain name is the address people type in their web browser to get to your web site. The domain name then points to the "real" address that contains your web site. The "real" address is called the IP address and is a series of numbers, such as 123.23.234.45. This IP address then points to the location on the server that contains your web site files. Reason why use domain name is much easier to remember.
