Doing the internship at Pakson International Plastic Industry have been a great honor for me. Thanks to my teachers at the university and the executives of the respective departments who are in some way or the other help and guide me through this journey. I had been an active part at the firm for six weeks and got to learn a lot. My work in the different departments, specifically, the HR department, the Marketing department and also the financial department has made me study many different aspects of the practical life. I had been to markets, with the help of the staff at the site; I managed some of their accounts. The time to time guidance given by the seniors of each department helped me put together all I learned and implement it in an effective way. Different issues regarding the labor, the market and the customer, were faced by and I being an internee was given opportunities to give my best opinion for the particular issue. As a student and an internee at the Pakson Industry, which operates with the brand name of BOSS, gave me the chance to implement what I had learnt from the books and a lot to learn from what I experienced being out there.

Introduction
Introduction to plastic
A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids used in the manufacture of industrial products. Plastics are typically polymers of high molecular mass, and may contain other substances to improve performance and/or reduce production costs. Monomers of plastic are either natural or synthetic organic compounds. The word plastic is derived from the Greek (plastikos) meaning capable of being shaped or molded, from (plastos) meaning molded.[1][2] It refers to their malleability, or plasticity during manufacture, that allows them to be cast, pressed, or extruded into a variety of shapessuch as films, fibers, plates, tubes, bottles, boxes, and much more. The common word plastic should not be confused with the technical adjective plastic, which is applied to any material which undergoes a permanent change of shape (plastic deformation) when strained beyond a certain point. Aluminum which is stamped or forged, for instance, exhibits plasticity in this sense, but is not plastic in the common sense; in contrast, in their finished forms, some plastics will break before deforming and therefore are not plastic in the technical sense. There are two types of plastics: thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers. Thermoplastics are the plastics that do not undergo chemical change in their composition when heated and can be moulded again and again; examples are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).[3] Thermosets can melt and take shape once; after they have solidified, they stay solid. The raw materials needed to make most plastics come from petroleum and natural gas.[4]

Types of plastics

Plastics type marks: the resin identification code PET (PETE), polyethylene terephthalate HDPE, high-density polyethylene PVC, polyvinyl chloride LDPE, low-density polyethylene, PP, polypropylene PS, polystyrene The plastic use for the molding of plastic furniture is polypropylene

Critical analysis of the theoretical concepts relating to practical experiences

Marketing strategy
They are the market trend setter and the market leader in all plastic brands in Pakistan .basically they are c competing in the market with three different class of plastic to overcome the all level of customers Boss puro Boss VIP

Boss Puro This brand is for elite class and consist of pure plastic and no chock involve in it and due to its cost nobody prepare in the Pakistan except boss that why they have no competitors in local market in that class and most of this brand is exported in different international markets like Afghanistan ,Sirilanka etc Only international competitors are present due to high level of cost on the material for producing the plastic furniture and less market demand than other type of material they produce domestic competition is absent because the machinery they are using is very high cost and no one want to bear that much high fixed cost in the domestic market They Boss This is the second class brand and this brand is to reach middle class of Pakistan and to compete in the local market this brand is not pure in have chock involvement but not in extreme level only to reach to compete in local market High level of domestic and international competition

VIP This brand is for low class people in the market in the cheapest brand of the boss and almost 25% chock is involved in this class and only for domestic low level competition and they are running it quite well Due to three levels of brands they have three levels of competitors

Overview of the Departments Where I Served Internship

Functions and operations Marketing
In the marketing department 40+ employees are working in which 15+ are field workers and others are office staff during their work they must perform the certain task to fulfill their jobs Focus on the Customer For the marketing guy it is real need of him to be focused to the need of customer all the time and always ready for customers demand and fulfill it whatever it takes. Monitor the Competition The marketing force have very strict eye on the competition of the brand .and do whatever it takes to be ahead of competitors Find & Direct Outside Vendors. It is the duty of marketers to find out direct venders but management always appreciate the big and bulk orders Create New Ideas. The new ides are created by the marketing force for the marketing of the certain product but the new product is always generated by R&D department Communicate Internally. The information of competitors are always communicated internally by marketing department Understand the ROI. For being the marketing guy you must understand the return on investment to transfer this information to your customer

Set the Strategy In the pakson industries marketing guys do adjust the strategies about the marketing of the product and how to cope with the competitors strategy Plan the Attack and execute it Most of the time they plain the plain against competitors of competing brand and execute it by their self

Human resource
This department is not the strong one of the organization because they have only 5 employees in that department except security staff which have 18 members but they have to do a lot of work for the employees and the organization to carry on during their hard work they perform certain task which are as follows

Hiring the major elements in the process are 1) the definition of the job itself, often a formal job description rendered on paper, an important aspect of which is determination of the compensation to be paid; 2) a process of recruitment; 3) prospective employee interviews; 4) the job offer and related negotiations (if any); 5) registration of the employee and related introductions and orientations; and 6) some kind of job training which may be minimal or may involve formal training programs. The hire may be a permanent or temporary employee; this status will also influence the process. Promotions The hr persons do promotions of different persons on the basis of their performance appraisal Salary determination Most of the time the salary of an employee is determined by hr manager Performance appraisal A performance appraisal is a part of guiding and managing career development. It is the process of obtaining, analyzing, and recording information about the relative worth of an

employee to the organization. Performance appraisal is an analysis of an employee's recent successes and failures, personal strengths and weaknesses, and suitability for promotion or further training. It is also the judgment of an employee's performance in a job based on considerations other than productivity alone. Personnel data entry and records maintenance Personal data are entered at the start of every job and records are maintained by hr department and all the work is updated and rechecked every six month Consultation and advisory services to management and employees The hr department handles the problems regarding employees work performance and also the personal problems of employee which not let him work Policy development They also take part in policy development regarding security problems and the employee work place environment Technical policy interpretation Whenever a new policy is implemented they have to describe it to every empoyee Benefits Employee registration in Pakistan social security When labor is registered to SSSP then SSSP protects him against economic and social distress and help him to cover especially in case of illness, maternity, employment injury, unemployment, and give him old age allowance. but the organizations in the small industrial sector of Pakistan does not pay much attention toward this due to expense, employee authority, etc but boss gives their employees a chance to get that bonus in that way they get tax help from the government and other benefits which other organization dont have Employee insurance All the employees of boss are insured and any injury in the case of an employee at the work place will give him medical care and insurance policy Employee child education One child of employee got education from the organization bank of every employee

Medical care The organization has a system to help the employees who needs medical attention for that purpose they got dispensary at the work place and any worker can take advantage of that Retirement funds Every employee got retirement fun after he retire from the organization and the amount of fund depends on the time he spent and on what post he is working at the time of retirment Employee assistance referral The department has to assistance referral for the employee and decides who needs what from organization Workers' compensation The policy of worker compensation is derived through this department and after passing through the higher management has to decide what they should implement

Finance
In the finance department 6 employees are serving in which 2 are finance professional 3 accountant and a budget manager they have to perform certain duties during their jobs in the department Adequate funds They all work really hard to ensure that there are adequate funds available to acquire the resources needed to help the organization achieve its objectives Cost control They must have to ensure costs of every project are controlled and if not they have to inform certain authorities to check the project what is wrong with it Adequate cash flow They must have to check the cash flows daily are they going up to expectation or not only and only are the person working in finance are responsible for any kind of delay in the information regarding misbehavior of cash flows

Control profitability The responsibility of finance manager is very big regarding profitability of the project if the profitability is decrease from the previous record of profit then the finance department needs to check it what happened and what factors are behind the cause if the factors are controllable then tell the certain authorities and if the mistake is from finance side then control it by its own management Maintenance of financial records It is really necessary to keep the record of the financial data of the company for a long period of time and boss did it by a lethal management information system they have every transaction from previous 10 years they spent and they maintain it semi annually and report it higher management Payment of bills and expenses The finance department is responsible of payment of bills of the company and bears all the expenses with its transactions Collection of bills due They are mention the bill dues to higher management and management describes what strategy they want to apply to cope with due bills Monitoring of funds Funds of Dispensary and other social works which have been run by the company are also monitored by this department Payment of wages and salaries At end of every job and they pay the wages and salaries most of the work force earn their salaries weekly bases and the Thursday is the payment day of all the workers and really busy day for finance sector

Short-falls/weaknesses
SWOT Analysis: Strength: Good Brand Image. Pioneer in Plastic chairs. Cover almost 60% of the total sale of plastic chairs in Pakistan. Manufacture huge range of plastic products as never other company manufacture. Quality Products based on the best available raw materials. A wide range of plastic chairs (main product) and other products. Strong financial position due to strong background of the CEO. Qualified and skilled labor in the region. Adoption of new technology

Weaknesses: Weak corporate culture (lack of communication among the departments). Employees are under stress by the management. Non participative management. Lack of fully functional and authorized HR department

Opportunities: Large domestic markets (lack of customers for Chinese products).

Company has good market image so they can add new product lines
Threats: Low price competitors are the main threats for the company. (Toyo, Citizen and other local firms) Threats from Chinese market due to low price products of same range.

Critical analysis of the management patterns, weak areas that need to be improved.
Weak corporate culture (lack of communication among the departments). Employees are under stress by the management. Non participative management. Lack of fully functional and authorized HR department

Responsibilities as a student Internee

Goals of internship
Internship goals are never easy to achieve but I can that Yes, I achieved my internship goals to a great extent .Learning many new things. As far as the book study is concerned, it is a totally different feeling, but when I was out there in the practical life I experienced it as a very interesting thing. Staying with the executives, dealing with the people at market place really helped me develop confidence and further improve my communication skills. At the site working with the different department, i.e.; the HR Department, Finance Department, Marketing Department, allowed me to obtain vast knowledge which I could not get through books. Handling tough and unexpected scenarios at my best was an ability that I was able to polish at the site.

Accomplishments
I accomplished my goals conveniently and I learned that the practical life is much more difficult than I expected it to be. The book knowledge has to be gained by just sitting in one place whereas in the real practical life one has to cope with ever changing environment.

Problems encountered
The internship was full in the sense that I was expected it to be quite relaxed environment where we would be allowed to do whatever we wanted to, of course within the limitation, because we were just internee and not permanent employees, but the real experience was totally different. We had to abide by the firms rules and regulations and strictly look after the timings. We were not allowed to come late or go early or any other relaxation was not given to us. We had to act as we were told to with the duty to report to our senior/ executive after each step.

Interesting about my internship

There was nothing interesting, except that we had to face an injury when a worker was seriously injured at the factory due to the lack of safety equipment provided by the firm. This was yet another new experience for me. Although the company provides the worker with the basic safety equipment but there is a lack of awareness in the workforce

New knowledge gain

The Internship at the Pakson Plastic Industry was a prestigious experience and an opportunity of the lifetime for me. During my internship period I was able to learn and implement new thing into real life. Visiting the markets was again a new experience which was quite interesting. We learned very much about the dealing of the company with the local and international market.

Conclusions of internship

After doing internship with pakson plastic industries I have a great knowledge of plastic industry in Pakistan and how much growth is available and how rapidly they are growing another thing which I gain from this internship is experience of corporate knowledge though the company is not doing very well to adopt corporate world but it is too much for me to know how they operate in the Pakistani scenario I must admit the reality of doing job in these 6 weeks they never let me bother that I m an internee in the office everybody on the work place is really helpful to me and the feeling of doing a job is a bit fun for me but of course with responsibility every day I got different assignment and I have to do my own task and I have done really well and after doing all I can conclude that I can work in the corporate sector but I must do hard work to carry on for a student in front of trained workforce

Recommendations for improvement

The firm is a model of excellence itself and has been awarded many times for its services and quality goods. But there is always a room for betterment in everything. For the firm I would recommend: The company does not pay much attention towards the HR department. Most of the decision making authority lies in the hands of Managing Directors. I concluded that in the organization the departments are not working satisfactory therefore there should be a proper integration between all departments. In the organization there is lake of education therefore company should introduce workshops to train their employees. For selection of price and new consumers need, company must conduct survey. The organization has weak culture. The organization must establish the strong corporate culture if it want to makes it progress better. At the end I would conclude that it was a great experience working with Pakson International Plastic Industry. I learned a lot of new things and got to the practical exposure. One thing I would conclude that as I have done a corporate internship for the first time I got to know that the work the organizations took from us was not worthy for the organization. They just took our suggestion and kept on testing our knowledge.

Annexes (Appendix1)

Cash Discount
A company XYZ that purchases Finished goods from Pakson Pvt. Ltd. which is of worth 0.2 Million Rupees. According to the companies policy they give a 10% discount on cash purchased if paid after 15 days after delivery. If a company clears its balance amount before 15 days then according to the companys policy they give 10% + 2% discount on the cash payments. The illustration is as follows: Price of finished Goods = Rs.200, 000 Discount given (if paid after 15 days) = 10% If he pays after 15 days: 200000*10%= Rs.20, 000 So after 15 days the company will have to pay = Rs.1, 80,000

Now condition 2
If he pays within 15 days Discount given (if paid within 15 days) = 10%+2% What 10% + 2% stands for? This tells us that the discount of 10% is to be given in any case if the customer pays the amount within 15 days. 2%will be given on the amount after 10% discount. See the illustration below 200000*10%= Rs. 20,000 Remaining amount= 1, 80,000 The next 2% will be given on the remaining amount. Therefore 180000*2%=3600 So within 15 days the company will have to pay= Rs.1, 76,400

Difference between 12% and 10% + 2%:

As we have seen that on 10% + 2% discount the amount payable within 15 days is Rs.1, 76,000

And if 12% discount is given on the cash purchased of 0.2 million Rupees within 15 days Illustration is as follows: 200,000 * 12% = 24,000 So the amount payable after the cash discount = 200,000 24,000

= Rs.1, 76,000 This shows that there is a difference of Rs.400.
