The good news is....there are many things you can do to reduce your household fuel consumption and bills...

Home Energy: About 80% of home energy consumption is to keep us warm and heat our water. This checklist
will help you think through what actions you could take and roughly what percentage of savings in your home energy consumption could be saved. We would like to help you reduce your household's C02 emissions by 30% and help you reduce your household bills and spending. The following list of actions will form the basis of your household action plan and will indicate to us how we may help you achieve actions. Get used to lower temperatures, wear warmer clothes, turn down thermostats, turn off heathing earlier at night, only heat rooms which need to be heated = 15% savings Sign up for a BeGreen home energy audit Draughtbust all doors, windows. Top up loft insulation to at least 270mm and ensure cavity walls are insulated = 10% - 20% savings. Upgrade to A rated boiler = 9% Use an energy monitor to pinpoint your main electricity consumption, turn off all appliances when not in use, replace all lights, including halogen bulbs with low energy bulbs, replace inefficient white goods with A++ appliances = 9.5% Install solar photovoltaic and or solar thermal panels = 18% savings Discuss whole house eco-refurbishment with BeGreen energy advice team = 50% savings Form a neighbourhood energy saving group Other ideas/ actions? (list below) Reduce hot water consumption - quick shower rather than bath, wash clothes less, fill washing machine and wash clothes at 30 c, ensure hot water tank and pipes are insulated = 18%

Food: Our food is travelling further than ever before, often 100's of miles from where it was produced. Food production
is totally dependent upon cheap and abundant oil - therefore as oil prices rise - so will our food bills. The average family can save 420. per year by wasting less food. This checklist will help you think through what actions you could take. Buy locally grown & produced food as much as possible. Buy local, seasonal foods. Reduce food packaging (bagged produce tends to cost more than loose ones). Support local independent food shops. Form a neighbourhood food group. Eat more organic food Grow more of our own fruit and veg Eat less processed food Buy fewer two for one food offers (to reduce wastage) Buy/ eat 50% of household food which is produced within 50 miles of where you live. Other ideas/ action? (list these): Eat less meat Waste less food Compost more Get a worm box

Personal Transport: Transport by car get to school, work and for leisure is oil dependent and
getting more expensive and contributes to C02 emissions. What actions will your household take to reduce your fuel bills and C02 emissions? Walk more and use car less for local journeys Cycle more and use car less for local journeys Use public transportation more. Work closer to home Fly less Shop closer to home Join the Sparewheels car club Take more holidays closer to home Form a group to make your neighbourhood streets safer and more attractive. Other ideas/ actions (list these) Trip chaining (link up your weekly trips and make less journeys)

Household Spending: Household spending is directly related to higher household C02 emissions.
