1. Executive Summary Todays consumers are already demanding a new level of mobility, with rising expectations of high quality voice and data access anywhere, and anytime. To hold their attention and also attract tomorrows subscriber, operators must evolve their networks to bring all communication together into an immersive, ubiquitous user experience. IP-based packet switched technology will be the backbone of that experience. As a leader in fixed and mobile communication, Motorola supports IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) as a direct path to operator success in the future. The Motorola IMS solution offers a common core, common subscriber provisioning, common billing and the ability to deliver data rich, multimedia experiences to any end-user environment, across fixed, cellular and wireless broadband networks and devices. Motorola has a comprehensive portfolio of IMS applications providing core capabilities that can be leveraged to deliver converged market leading products and servers that are network agnostic - WiMAX, WiFi, 3G, 2.5G, CDMA/GPRS/EDGE, LTE and UMB. Motorola has an extensive portfolio of IMS-enabled Applications that can be deployed today to drive subscriber growth and generate revenue targeting both enterprise and residential subscriber base. These applications include IMS Messaging, IMS Presence and Network Document Store, IMS Multimedia Conferencing, the IMS Unified Messaging Server, Push-To-Xperience, the IMS Location Server, and the IMS Mobility Manager Server 2. The Impact of IP on Telecommunications Networks The Internet is legitimately viewed as one of the most important communication inventions of all time. It has transformed the way we work, learn, stay in touch, are entertained, shop, and plan our daily lives. While popular applications such as web search, instant messenger, and email are the visible manifestation of the Internets popularity, its underlying technology defines its success. The foundations of the Internet are based on open Internet Protocol (IP) standards, the switching of information using software and a flat peerto-peer architecture that spreads computing power across the network and its users. Its design eases the process of creating applications (therefore inspiring ongoing innovation) and delivering them. IP protocols are flexible, proven and robust. The standards versatility enables them to be integrated into telecoms systems. Its a process thats gathering pace with the fusion of IP into network cores, wireless interfaces (such as WiMAX and future LTE and UMB systems), and electronic devices. The marriage of telecoms in particular the mobile device with IP promises to make internet applications more accessible and available. Its also catalyzing a new period of communications innovation focused on the telecoms sector. Innovation that will enable service providers to significantly enhance existing services and launch new services which will be more intuitive, productive, convenient, and fun. Orchestrating the new service experience will be IMS. 3. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) A New Communication Experience The DNA of IMS comprises IP and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), to provide a highly versatile core that integrates session management, mobility, and service quality on one system. It can connect and link any IP interface or network (e.g. WiMAX, WiFi, 3G, 2.5G, CDMA/GPRS/EDGE, LTE, and UMB) and the services they support. And through software, legacy systems from non-IP domains can be connected too. By harmonizing services, IMS provides the versatility for end users to combine multiple services in a single session: to elect the most appropriate medium or combination of media to enrich their communication (video, voice, text, images, or instant messages), all available simultaneously and in real time. IMS is an integral part in realizing Motorolas Seamless Mobility vision, and considered by the industry as a clear, and choreographed framework for the future of communications.

3 TECHNICAL SOLUTION PAPER: Motorola IMS Applications

The Motorola IMS solution is comprised of: Application Servers: servers containing the specific application functionality. IMS Core Network: control plane providing common functions for all application servers support systems, interworking, billing and authentication. Clients and devices: a range of fixed and mobile devices and end points for termination of IMS services

Looking at IMS in action, consider a business executive. Imagine she is in the office sending the last email of the day before running to catch the train home. The SIP phone on her PC rings notifying her of a video call. She answers the call and within a few minutes realizes its going to take more time than she has. At the push of a button on her PC the call is immediately transferred to the mobile device with no interruption; she can then decide whether to keep the video session running on a WiMAX mobile or downgrade the call to voice only for convenience while on the move. While on the train home, the executive can use her presence-enabled address book to see if any of her friends are available to play an online game: sending a group invitation via instant message to contacts shown as free across a mix of fixed and mobile locations. Within seconds the group can be playing a round of cards, enlivened with sporadic voice and text chat. Indeed, wherever subscribers go in the Seamless Mobility environment, their information and contacts go too. Each subscriber will have a secure area on a service providers network that will house their content, preferences, contacts, and calendars. The store can be accessed from any device and if changes are made such as adding a new contact the information is immediately updated and made available. Such applications can extend the convenience of todays communications and create new communications opportunities, further defining the term connectivity. Building the IP foundation of this experience is possible now. Motorolas IMS applications for fixed and mobile broadband solutions pave the way for the transition to IP-controlled networks with an IMS core and an array of ready-made and engaging applications.

4. Motorolas IMS Applications Portfolio Motorola offers an end-to-end portfolio of IMS applications for both fixed and mobile service providers, enabling them to offer their subscribers customized and differentiated packages by combining rich voice, multimedia, and messaging services with capabilities such as presence, location, and identity. Motorolas IMS Applications framework is based on a small number of application servers each delivering a core set of functions within the IMS domain. The servers can deliver a suite of pre-packaged applications or function as nodes (individually or combined) to deliver products and services. The Motorola IMS architecture provides a standards based platform that can accommodate new applications and services as they become available its a flexible and future-resilient technology. Furthermore, Motorola provides a bi-lateral IOT (Interoperability Testing) program to support service providers in deploying new IMS services when required.

4 TECHNICAL SOLUTION PAPER: Motorola IMS Applications

Applications already available today with Motorolas IMS solution include: IMS Messaging: IMS Messaging creates a new approach to coverged messaging; evolving and enhancing SMS, MMS, Instant Messaging (IM), and Push-to-Talk into rich IP-based services available across a range of devices and legacy interconnected domains. IMS Messaging from Motorola provides a cost-effective modular approach for service providers in developing a messaging proposition. Industry standards, open interfaces, and interworking capabilities support rapid and cost-effective deployment of compelling and differentiated new services that capitalize on the popularity of existing communities and messaging services such as SMS, MMS, instant messaging, and email. Motorolas IMS Messaging solution combines text, images, video, email, voice, and presence in a single user application. So for example, a user on a mobile device can have a chat session with two friends one is using Instant Messenger on their PC and the other is communicating through SMS via their mobile device. The system also provides a number of value added services beyond person-toperson (P2P) messaging such as Virtual IM Buddy, Money Transfer, Anti-Spam, Advertising-Funded messaging, and parental control. These services are critical for service providers when targeting and acquiring existing legacy messaging users. Motorola IMS Messaging is based on the industry standards as defined by 3GPP OMA, IETF and TISPAN. Indeed, Motorola is a chief proponent at industry test events and promotes the , , cause of open standards and interworking between legacy internet and mobile application, and next generation messaging services. IMS Presence and Network Document Store: Presence enabled communication, complemented by the facility for subscribers to store information such as contact lists, bookmarks, and preferences on the network, introduces an exciting new dimension to both fixed and mobile services and applications. The IMS Presence Server allows users to know when others are able to communicate, which media type (e.g. voice, video call, text, instant message, or multimedia message) they would prefer to be contacted by, and if theyre free to partake in applications such as multiplayer gaming. In essence, presence means faster, easier, and more fun ways to communicate with fewer no-answers. The IMS Presence Server can route calls in the preferred medium not only to individual users, but can share presence information with other applications. This enables the network to provide users with tailored content relevant to their presence status. IMS Multimedia Conferencing: Motorolas IMS Multimedia Conferencing Server offers a single, scalable turnkey conferencing system. It hosts all key audio processing capabilities (such as Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Announcements, Conferencing, Recording, Transcoding, Speech Recognition, Text-to-Speech, and Fax). So end users can set up and manage all of their conferencing requirements (from an ad hoc call or a fully planned conference with a thousand investors) through an intuitive web interface that requires no operator intervention. Customers can control virtually every aspect of the meeting. This includes the choice of media (audio-only, audio/Web, video/audio/Web, collaboration), the content, the role of the participants (listen-only, presenter, lecturer), the general Q&A and voting sessions (open & closed question and voting queues, preview questions, select/reject questions, review voting results), and private communication (text chat or private whisper conversations between identified parties). Customers can also record a conference and offer playback to wider audiences via telephone or Web. Multimedia Conferencing affords the same level of administrative and participant convenience, flexibility, and control offered by physical on-site meetings; creating a significant revenue opportunity for service providers across a broad range of business sectors.
5 TECHNICAL SOLUTION PAPER: Motorola IMS Applications

IMS Unified Messaging Server: Unified Messaging (UM) is a convenience application: it allows any type of message to be left (i.e. voice, fax, and email) for a subscriber and for them to access it from any networked device such as the phone, PC, web applications, or PDA. All other IMS Messaging and Application Servers (e.g. SMS, voicemail, email, and conferencing) can connect to the Server thereby reducing costs by removing the need for multiple message systems. The application can be configured over the Web by customers to enhance service and reduce service provider administration. Furthermore, the open standard-based APIs are available for third-party developers to customize branding and configuration of the phone and Web User Interfaces. IMS Push-To-Xperience: Motorola is the global leader in Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC). PoC is the first mobile messaging application to provide immediate voice messaging at the press of a single button. Push-To-Xperience describes the evolution of PoC to add unique applications to the simple and engaging interface. Push-To-Xperience services are enabled by applying network based contacts, presence technology, and one-to-many immediate voice messaging. The first commercially available Push-To-Xperience application is Push-To-Email. Push-To-Email enables any PoC user to send a voice message to email addresses anywhere in the world; its a fast and easy way to send an email or voice message and has proven to be a major hit with subscribers where its available. The core product has many functions that provide the versatility for service providers to deliver personal productivity, wide area dictation and workforce automation solutions. Using either an external IMS or the current integrated IMS the Motorola Push-To-Xperience solution can be connected to any IP based fixed or mobile access network. Today Motorola supports Push-To-Xperience deployment over GPRS, CDMA 1X/DO/Rev A, UMTS, DSL, and WiMAX. IMS Location Server: GPS and Satellite Navigation are essential systems for both consumers and enterprises. Current GPS and Satellite technologies are limited as they only provide location information. The latest generation of mobile communications, such as WiMAX, sends positioning information to Motorolas IMS Location Server to enable new extended location based applications. The Server captures location data, creating the opportunity to devise new services and revenue opportunities. For example, automated subscription services can be developed to provide updates on local areas when a user moves into them such as the number of local taxi firms, information on restaurants and bars (with links to reviews from other subscribers), key sites, and cinemas. The information can be complemented by promotions such as lower cost entry to museums. In addition, the Server enables compliance with European and US emergency location mandates and requirements. IMS Mobility Manager Server: The IMS Mobility Manager unifies the end user experience across circuit and packet networks. So end users, via the use of dual mode handsets (cellular & WiFi) can access the same telephony features and functionality regardless of whether theyre out-and-about on the cellular network or sitting at their kitchen table utilizing a Wi-Fi broadband connection. For cellular operators, IMS with the Motorola Mobility Manager supports improved residential and enterprise coverage through the use of lower cost WLAN networks. They can also market additional services to customers that are not profitable when delivered over cellular RANs while freeing cellular radio capacity for data services that are optimally delivered over mobile networks. For companies wireline and cable assets, IMS with the Mobility Manager, supports the provision of comprehensive service packages that encourage subscriber loyalty by supplying a complete range of mobile and fixed voice and data services.
