LaCOMEDIA DINNER THEATRE: All seats are now taken for this Thursday, October 13, adventure. However, I am accepting stand-bys, as there is always the possibility that some ticketholder may not be able to attend. We will be departing at 8:20 am on that morning and returning in the late afternoon. The cost is just $43 per person and this includes transportation, dinner and the show. The sign-up sheet remains posted. WEDNESDAYS: I invite you to share in either of our study groups. We meet at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm. Our current study is II Corinthians. This will, like previous studies, be a verse-by-verse investigation, with study questions. Why not join us for one of these informal study groups? SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This is the theme I have chosen for the fall series. This 6:00 pm service is held in our sanctuary and features a brief song service, Communion, and a message. This week we will be considering Psalm 42 and the theme, When Depression Shrouds. I am planning to follow this series with studies on Hard Sayings of Jesus. This would include any statements, made by Jesus, that you find difficult to understand. [An example may be found in Matthew 8:22.] I am asking for your suggestions for these studies. Suggestion sheets were distributed last Sunday evening and will be available this week. You may, also, submit your suggestions by phone. FINAL THOUGHT: Never insult an alligator until after you have crossed the river.

Elders Meeting

A Note From Brad.

What a great time of praise we had on Saturday night. I want to thank Scott for asking his friends to come from Bowling Green to share with us. It was good to see so many of you come to participate. I also want to say thanks to all of you who took time to Fast and Pray this past weekend. I hope that your time was well spent with the Lord and that he revealed to you areas of your life that need some shaking up. If you would like to express to me anything about your fasting experience this weekend, e-mail me at bkjseevers@sbcglobal.net. I would love to hear about what God is doing in you. I heard from several that said they felt that it wasnt as difficult as they had perceived and felt they would begin doing this more regularly in their private life. Praise God for your growth. As a reminder, our Wednesday night electives have begun. They meet from 6:30-7:30. Daves offering a study on 2 Corinthians on Wed. morning at 10 and each Wednesday night; Norma is offering a ladies elective on Colossians and I am offering a variety of study options in the fellowship hall. I hope you will join us this week. Our Life Groups meet on Sunday night and Tuesday night. Not A Fan meets Sunday nights at Dan and Janet Browns from 6-7:30. We had a great start yesterday. On Tuesday nights, we are offering Forgotten God, which meets from 6:30-8:00 PM. If you are not part of a group yet, I hope you will consider joining one of our growth studies mentioned in this article. Hospital policy What I am about to write is for your information and is not a result of anyone complaining. Frequently we have church members who have scheduled surgeries at our local hospitals in Central Ohio. I am more than happy to visit you while under hospital care. However, I want to make you aware of my visitation policy. I will only visit you in the hospital if you personally let me know you are having surgery. I do not want to find out through the grapevine or another staff person that you are having something done. I will assume if you want me to visit you that you will let me know. Thanks for your understanding! In His Service, Brad Seevers, Eph. 3:20-21

Worship
But all things should be done decently and in order. I Corinthians 14:40 This verse is frequently used to explain why we dont do certain things in worship or why someone else shouldnt do them. The but at the beginning of this verse tells us there is important information before it that will clarify its meaning. To get that information you have to look at all of chapters 12-14 which I obviously dont have space to cover here so Ill summarize. Ch 12: All Christians are given Spirit driven gifts, not all are the same, but all are important in encouraging and growing the body of Christ. Ch 13: Everything that we do must be a reflection of our love for God and for others or it is pointless and sinful. Ch 14: Different gifts serve different functions, but when you meet together, gifts that encourage and strengthen the body as a whole take priority. The church at Corinth had some issues in their assembly, mostly because they had heart problems. They were using spiritual gifts in service to flesh. In pride they were becoming the object of their own worship. This is why Paul takes time for chapter 13 to discuss love as being patient, kind, not envious, prideful, rude or selfish and so on. When our heart is focused on serving God and serving others, our worship is declaring Gods worth in our lives by living those lives controlled not by flesh, but by His Spirit within us. When removed from its context, I Cor 14:40 is a tool of control. Sadly, what Paul is trying to teach us is to let the Spirit of God have control. After all worship is really about surrendering self to serve God and serve others in love. Lord help us to give you control and offer our bodies as living sacrifice that you might have your way in us. amen

We Have Added to the Children's Ministry

Last Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 10:09pm Hannah Joy Shady was born. She was 8 lb. 8 oz. at birth and was 20.5 in. long. Baby and mommy are doing absolutely wonderfully, and we appreciate the support and prayers everyone has offered for us already. It is comforting, and much easier, to go through such a huge transition as a family when we are plugged into a church family like the one at Fifth Avenue. Hannah and Jessica look forward to seeing all of you this next Sunday. In Christ's Love, Glen Shady ******************************

New Adult Sunday School Class

Taught by Glen Shady Beginning October 2, 2011 Anyone is welcome, but we are particularly interested in getting young adults plugged into Sunday School who are currently not involved.
