Project Implementation
August 2008/September 2008:
* Finish project proposal
* Work on details of project
* Research and create financial projections for living expenses and tuition
* Research visa issues for Iraqis
* Begin discussions with two D.C. area schools – George Washington and Howard Universities
* Send program applications to Iraqis
October 2008/ November 2008:
* Research NonGovernmental Organizations to discuss partnerships
* Launch website about program for transparency of finances and activities
* Receive completed program applications and choose one male and one female recipient
* Send selected students university applications
* Start a bank account for anticipated living expenses for Iraqis through one of the universities
December 2008:
* Receive, review, and submit completed university applications before January 1st deadlines
* Gather local support and begin grassroots fundraising for “living expenses account” through
community events and cooperation with interested organizations
* Discuss further financial offers and programs of study for Iraqis with GWU and Howard U
* Follow up with organizations about partnerships with the program and financial contributions
January 2009/ February 2009:
* Continue to discuss with partner universities about tuition and admissions (finalize the discussions
and come to an agreement)
* Garner local media support / university media support
* Look into applications for visas to the United States
* Research efforts for host families for Iraqis
* Look into summer English programs for Iraqis to participate in before the start of their Fall 2009
study
March 2009:
* More local fundraising through community events and partner organizations
April 2009:
* Purchase airfare for Iraqis to come to the U.S.
* Continue to look into the visa issues for Iraqis
* If prior research found positive, continue to work on hoststay possibility
May 2009:
* Summer English language programs begin (possibly in Iraq/possibly in the United States)
* Continue efforts for funding
June 2009:
• Plan details for Iraqis stay (where they will be, what trips they may take if/when they will go
home during breaks)
July 2009:
* Contact Iraqi students to ensure they are prepared and understand details for travel to the U.S.
August 2009:
* Iraqis come to the United States
* Facilitate their safe arrival to campuses
* Orientation (of the city, campuses, meetings with school administrators, etc.)
* Beginning of classes
