These activities fall under industry , commerce and trade. These three branches have one common function- the exchange function. Thus, marketing here means exchange of goods for money or money worth. Mainly , there two angles from which we can discuss the meaning of marketing product oriented, or old concept Costumer oriented, or new or modern concept. PRODUCTION ORIENTED VIEW It is traditional concept of marketing. The view is based on the assumption that the product whatever it is, acceptable to the customer. The count the choice or the behavior of the consumer. Only such Product are brought forward which can satisfy the wants and taster of the consumer. To please the after sells services are needed.

According to Williams J. Station, Marketing is a total system of interacting business activities design to plant, price, promote and distribute want satisfying product and services to present and potential customer.

Marketing occupies an important position in the organization of business unit. Marketing is a comprehensive term and it includes all resources and a set of activity necessary to direct and facilities the flow of goods and services from producer to consumer in the process of distribution. Marketing is a total system of business an ongoing process of 1)Discovering and translating consumer needs and desires Hito product and service ( through planning and producing the planned product ) 2) Creating demand for these product and services (through promotion and pricing) 3) Serving the consumer demand (through planning and physical distribution ) with help of market channels and then, in turn. 4. Expanding the market even in the face of the keen completion Philip Kotler has rightly remarked, marketing is analysis, organization, planning and controlling of the firm customer impinging resources, policies, activities with a view to satisfy the need and wants of chosen customer groups at a project. Thus the prime objective of modern marketing is the satisfaction of customers need. Consider the following famous passage in Gandhis writing hung on the wall of market- oriented corporations , The role of marketing is to deliver a higher standard of living. Marketing is a societal process by which individuals and group obtain what they need and want through creating offering and freely exchange product and services of value with other. Marketing has been described as The art of selling product The most important part of marketing is nit selling ! selling is only the tip of the marketing iceberg.

OBJECTIVE OF MARKETING
The success of marketing depends upon how and to what extend is had achieved its objectives. The main objectives. Of marketing are; 1)Determination needs and of wants of customer: All marketing activities revolve around the needs and wants; these can identify by marketing research. 2) Marketing Segmentation: The second object of marketing is to divide the whole market into several segments on some specific bases, e.g.. age, education, income, caste, location, etc. 3)Growth of Enterprise: The other object of the marketing is to archive overall growth of enterprise in term of sales volume and net profits. All activities of marketing must concentrated upon increase or maximization of net profits. But, it should be noted here that maximization of profits should be through satisfaction of customer need and wants.

4)

Thus, all marketing activities, pro-grammas and policies should be framed towards satisfying the customers needs.

HIGH YIELDING VARIETIES

THE future increases in food production have to come only through higher yields. Two major factors that will help to achieve this targets one large area under high yielding verities and the use of good quality seed. India has a sound base for farm research &highly talented research workers due to the good. Work of the scientists high yielding varieties. Hybrids are released from time to time to time some private seed companies with good R&D. Facilities have evolved hybrids in crops such as cotton, sunflower and vegetables The first break-through in new stand came in 1961 in &maize. This came as a result of a co-ordinate breeding which was conceived and put into action 1957. Co-coordinate agencies included the Indian council of agricultural research, Indian- council of agricultural Research institute .the introduction of new breeding maternal already invar storage of in breeding provided new germanium .by evaluating those materials is appropriate crosses and extensive testing it was possible to achieve in a very few years what might not be accomplish in a generation of independent breeding research efforts four releases were made in 1961 ganga -1 ganga-101 ranjt and deccan .since then additional hybrids have been released which includes Himalaya 123 &VL54 far

the hill ganga 3 as a replacement for Ganga safed 2&hi starch hybrids makka the important charcusties of these hybrids are high yielding ability .high response to fertilizer insect &disease resistance and acceptable grain color and type .

INDIA AGRICULTURE
AGRICULTUR in India is the means of livelihood of almost two third of the work force in the country .it has always been INDIN most important economics sector .the 1970 s saw a huge increase in India s wheat production that heralded the green Revolution in the country .the increase in post independence agricultural has been brought about by bringing additional area under cultivation extension of irrigation facilities use of better seeds, better techniques, water management, and plant protection. Dependence on India agricultural imports in the early 1960s convinced planners that Indias growing population, as well as concerns about national independence, security and political stability, required self sufficiency in foods production .this perception This perception led to program of agricultural improvement called the Green revolution, to a public distribution system, and to price supports

for farmers. The growth in food grain production is a result of concentrated efforts to increase all the Green Revolution inputs needed for higher yields: better seed, more fertilizers, improved irrigation, and education of farmers. Although increased irrigation has helped to lessen year-to-year fluctuations in farm production resulting from the vagaries of the monsoons, it has not eliminated those fluctuations. Non traditional crops of India, such as summer mung (a variety of lentil, part of the pulse family), soybeans, peanuts, and sunflowers, were gradually gaining importance. Steps have been taken to ensure an increase in the supply of seeds and fertilizers for reasonable price there are various seeds and fertilizers quality control laboratories in the country. Realizing the importance of Indian agricultural production for economic development, the central Government of India has played an active role in all aspect s of agricultural development. Planning is centralized, and plan priorities, policies, and resource allocations are decided at the central level. Food and price policy also are decided by the central government. Thus, although agriculture in India is constitutionally the responsibility of the states rather than the central government, the latter plays a key role in formulating policy and providing financial resources for agricultural. Expansion in crop production, therefore, has to come almost entirely from increasing yields on lands already in some kind of agricultural use. The monsoons, however, play a critical role in Indian agricultural in determining whether the harvest will be bountiful, or poor in any given year. One of the objectives of government policy in the early 1990s was to find methods of reducing this dependence on the monsoons.

INDIAN SEEDS
The central government established the National Seeds Corporation (India) in1963 and distribution of certified seeds of various Indian crops. In India, thirteen state seed corporation were established to arrange production and distribution of certified seeds. Production of breeder seed was organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research through interested breeders and scientists. The National seed corporation and state farms corporation breeder seeds .the availability of seeds increased eightfold during the 1980,from 391.4 tone in FY 9181 to 3.213 tone in FY 1988 .the production and amiability

Of seeds in india has increased enormously since the late 1970 s .the distribution of certified and quality seeds showed an increase from 140.000 tones in FY1979 to 568.000.tone in FY 1988.A buffer stock of seeds is maintained by the national seeds corporation by the northeastern state and by the state and by the state farms corporation of India for the other state against such unforeseen contingencies as floods droughts and diseases .

REASARCH &DEVELOPMENT
FOR a vast country like India with varied soil and climatic condition production of seeds suiting each climatic and soil type was imperative nirmal launched its research and development activities in 1976 with a view to providing innovative exotic and more farmer friendly planting material to the farmers. Nirmal commended its research activities in vegetable crops like okra, hot pepper, egg plant, cucurbits and field crops like cotton. The companys remarkable research achievements were reco0gnized by the DSIR government of India in 1993 The companies testing laboratory at Kinhi provides testing facilities for Biochemical Analysis, Fibre Testing, Molecular Biology, Tissue Culture, Soil & plant Analysis, plant physiology, Cytology, plant Pathology &Microbiology.

The company has various regional research stations for multilocation trials of advanced generation material. Nirmal has realized the future need of the industry and has geared up for the same. Biotechnology through bio safety for the benefit of mankind is Nirmals vision for the future. Nirmal has ventured into the field of transgenic research which includes incorporation of insect tolerance in cotton by using Cry L Ac and Cry X gene. The future projects includes incorporation of drought tolerance traits, improvising the quality of vegetables crops like delayed ripening of the tomato E company achieved its major breakthrough in cotton seeds in the year 1993 with Nirmal 651 cotton hybrid. Its suitability to dry land farming , early flowering and adaptability as excessive as well scanty rainfall made it an instant hit with the famer community .nirmal 651 was declared a notified hybrid in the in the all India coordinated cotton improvement project nirmal other two cotton hybrids nirmal 09 and Swedish -1have also been notified by the government of India for dry land cultivation in central Indian .

The year 2001-02 of cotton seeds .nirmal share in the cotton seeds industry is an astounding 18%incidentally nirmal also hold the largest share in proprietary cotton hybrid sales the output of nirmal cotton seeds is a remarkable 80 lakh quintals which is a 15% share cotton of the India cotton industry .nirmal s long staple cotton hybrid akka has given the best result in India with a staples length of over 32mm, Nirmla golden moment was in the year 1996 when the company received the national award for research form none other than the hone .minister of state for science and technology .today the company boasts of over115 hybrids in various in various crops .the company has 125heataes of land reserved specially for research .the company has a large collection of proprietary germplasm with novel traits of all crops . Our team of dedicated breeders works hard to give the best possible research products suitable to the farers requirement the company is applying advance

techniques like DNA fingerprinting marker assisted selection method , the speed of crop breeding treatment and various other biotechniques.

PRODUCTION &PROCESSING Beginning with a modest office of a little over 200sq .ft in 1976 and an initial production of 150 quintal nirmal received an overwhelming response from the people of vidarbha for its public bred varieties of cotton ,jowar and okra .the company then expanded its production activates to Andhra Pradesh gujrat and other parts of Maharashtra . With an ever increasing demand for its quality seeds nirmal started production in its own processing unites in the years 1983 at Tirupati and kisanagar. The company provide employment opportunities to over 30000 persons annually through its contract farming practices . these person residing in various parts of the country undertake seeds production for the company under the able guidance of our professional .the staff work hands in hand with the growers to check the isolation , genetic purity and health of the seeds in the field to facilitate production of excellent quality seeds . The company also provide guidance to the farms in the use of fertilizer .thus the farms gain expertise even for independent cultivation of various crops .the company has eleven state of the art processing plants with a production capacity of over 16000 tons a dehumidified storage capacity of 5000 sq m for medium term storage and 10.000sq m warehouses technology the plant provid facilities for drying ,preleasing .ginning delinking gravity separation and fungicidal gravity spar ration and fungicidal treatment .and weed during the laboratory test .the genetic purity seeds heath and vigo0

are tested before the seed are market .the company has also achieved high levels of seed purity with the genetic male sterility techniques .the failure percentage of our seeds in the lab and field tests is not even 1% the company has auto packing and accuracy in weight .PROBLEM OF

AGRICULTURE MARKETING IN INDIA

There are many problem IN agriculture marketing are the follows . 1)concentration process is very important for agricultural goods a long channel of distribution are needed and hence there are a large number of middle men.

2) There is high demand for transportation and storage faciliti9es in the harvest seasons in order to protect the produce from deterioration in quality in special transportation have to be provided .

3) To finance seasonal requirement more finance is necessary in a particular period. Financial need also varies from year to year depending upon the quantity it production.

4) Grading and standardization is important for agriculture product. But it is very difficult to great and standardizes the products, as there are many agricultural goods and one produce has many qualities.

5) Agriculture product does not create a demand. Advertising is not possible due to the limited resources agriculturist. As there are many qualities branding is also not an easy job.

6) There is price fluctuation in agricultural product due to the imbalance in supply and demand.

7) production of agricultural product is seasonal the consumption is regular and demand regular thought out the year commodities must be stored and made available to the consumer.
