Christies Hong Kong Autumn Auctions 2011: an Early Preview

25 30 November, 2011

Hong Kong Leading global auction house Christies will hold its 2011 Hong Kong Autumn Sales from 25th to 30th November, 2011 at the Grand Hall in the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. This follows a record-breaking Spring season in Asia for Christies, with sales totalling HK$4bn/US$515m, as well as strong results at its recent Hong Kong Wine Sale on 3-4 September which achieved HK$59.47m/US$7.64m. The Autumn auctions will comprise 12 sales covering six major categories, offering some of the rarest and most exceptional works in Chinese paintings, Chinese ceramics and works of art, Asian 20 th century and contemporary art, as well as rare luxury collectibles such as wine, jewellery and watches. As the art market remains strong in Asia and the appetite for collecting continues to grow, Christies Hong Kong in its 25th year leads the market with the best works at reasonable estimates that will appeal to both seasoned and new collectors alike. Of particular note this season is the integration of Southeast Asian art into the Asian 20 th century & contemporary art sale. Previously sold in a separate category, Southeast Asian modern and contemporary art will enjoy a new level of international exposure when placed alongside the art from China, India, Japan and Korea. This integration a first for any international auction house completes the consolidation of contemporary and modern art from different parts of Asia to create a wider pan-Asian category that is a parallel to its Western counterpart.
