His father was always in the garage (2)working on one car or another, so young Ed would spend hours (3)watching his father work. As a result, he became fascinated by cars (4)at an early age. His father encouraged him (5)to learn about cars on his own, so Ed began (6)tinkering with cars himself at age eight. Consequently, (7)by the time he was 13, Ed could tear an engine apart and put it back together by himself. (8)Since he was already so skilled, (9)when he was 15, he got a job as (10)the chief mechanic at (11)a local repair shop. Mandatory school uniforms are (12)a bad decision for our district. (13)If students are required to wear a uniform, it will greatly inhibit their ability to express themselves. This is a problem because dress is one of the major ways (14)that young people express themselves. A school uniform policy also directly violates (15)the freedom of expression (16)that all Americans are supposed to enjoy. Consequently, young people will doubt that their basic rights are protected, and this will affect (17)their larger outlook on civil liberties. Furthermore, school uniforms will interfere with the wearing of (18)certain articles of religious clothing, (19)which will create tensions among certain religious groups that can lead to (20)feelings of discrimination. In addition, school uniforms will place an undue financial burden on (21)many low-income families who may not have the money (22)to spend on new uniforms every year, especially if they have several children. Finally, school uniforms will negate one of the most important concepts (23)we can teach our children individuality. (24)When push comes to shove, wed all be better off choosing individuality over uniformity. (25)Mandatory school uniforms are a step in the wrong direction. 12.a. 13.a. 14.a. 15.a. 16.a. 17.a. 18.a. 19.a. 20.a. 21.a. 22.a. 23.a. 24.a. participle phrase b. noun clause adjective clause b. noun phrase adverb clause b. participle phrase b. noun phrase adverb clause b. adverb phrase b. noun phrase participle phrase b. adjective clause b. adverb clause b. gerund phrase c. adjective phrase d. noun phrase b. adverb clause c. adjective clause d. noun phrase gerund phrase c. adverb clause d. noun clause b. adjective phrase c. gerund phrase d. adverb phrase gerund phrase c. adjective clause d. noun clause adjective phrase c. noun phrase d. adverb phrase b. participle phrase c. gerund phrase d. adverb phrase adjective phrase c. adverb clause d. adjective clause adjective phrase c. participle phrase d. gerund phrase b. participle phrase c. gerund phrase d. adverb phrase gerund phrase c. adjective phrase d. adverb phrase gerund phrase c. adverb clause d. noun clause gerund phrase c. adjective clause d. noun clause
