NEW SCHOOL FOR WALDERSLADE OUR CHILDREN DESERVE THE BEST

By the beginning of June 2011, children from Walderslade Primary School will have moved into their new school building in Dargets Road. Conservative candidates David Brake and Adrian Gulvin report that already the children have been to visit the new building and the excitement grows as these young people prepare themselves for the future. The school is accredited with being one of the better schools in Medway and they join the rest of the community when they say The children and families in Walderslade deserve the very best when it comes to school buildings and their education. Money is well spent on this project which includes a community area for use by Walderslade residents. Natural lighting has been a key factor in the design. Children will not only enjoy the well laid out classrooms but also a very well appointed assembly hall, dining facilities and a dedicated IT suite.

THE NET SILVERWEED ROAD, WEEDSWOOD A FACILITY FOR ALL

Newly decorated by volunteers from within the Medway Community, THE NET located in Silverweed Road, Walderslade is now operational. A full time Youth Worker is located on site and local Conservatives David Brake and Adrian Gulvin, who have both been behind this community project, are pleased with the progress. Local user groups including the Medway Youth Service, Medway Police and MHS are preparing to hold sessions. The community has asked for this facility and I am so pleased that it has come to fruition, said David. Adrian added It will be available for our young people and those not so young in the area. A Management Committee with an independent chairman, secretary and treasurer is set to run THE NET and to look after the building and ensure that community groups are involved and have a voice in its future.

CAMPAIGNING IN WALDERSLADE
Adrian Gulvin & David Brake have been out on the doorsteps meeting local residents for several weeks. Adrian says I want to meet & talk with as many people as possible before the elections. As there are more than 7,000 electors in Walderslade it has meant an early start was necessary. Adrian & David have been pleased to hear that most residents think that our Conservative Council is doing a good job. Areas in which residents believe performance could David and Adrian canvasing local residents for their views be improved have also been noted; these include repairs to potholes, inconsiderate parking by parents outside some schools, poor bus services and the clearing-up of litter & dumped rubbish. Residents have also raised many issues which are national rather than local these have been passed on to our MP, Tracey Crouch.

NEW BALL PARK

NEW ROADS AND FOOTPATHS

In the last couple of years Matt and Pat have been lobbying the Cabinet Member (responsible for Highways) to improve the footpaths and roads in Princes Park. Many surfaces have been renewed throughout Princes Park including the most visible work to everyone on Princes Avenue.

IF RE-ELECTED OUR PLEDGE

Back in 2007 Matt Bright and Pat Gulvin pledged they would try and deliver some youth facilities for the children of Princes Park. It took three years to find a suitable site, secure the funding and get the necessary planning permission but they did it! The Ball Park on Heron Banks is a truly fantastic asset to the local area and will be used for many years to come. I If Matt Bright and Pat Gulvin are re-elected they are pledging to make road safety their main priority. They are looking to introduce road safety schemes for Princes Avenue, Heron Way, Scotby Avenue and the surrounding area around Maundene School. Speeding traffic and inconsiderate parking in the area needs to be tackled.

ANTI-MOTORCYCLE BARRIERS
There used to be a serious motorbike problem in and around the pathways in Princes Park. Matt and Pat have tackled the problem head on. Throughout the last four years they have been installing sets of anti-motorbike barriers throughout the area with the latest set only being a few weeks ago. If you know of a footpath that would benefit from having such barriers please contact us.

SUPPORTING SURE START

A few weeks ago Matt and Pat donated a cheque to the Sure Start Centre in Kingfisher School. The amount was for 500 and will help purchase highchairs and books. Also presented on Presenting a cheque for the same day 500 to staff at Sure Start were a further two cheques for 500 for the onsite allotment gardens and 736 for the new library. They have been continuing to support the local schools in the area for the last few years.

TACKLING ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Anti-social behaviour is still an issue in our community, but we will continue to work with, and improve, on the good relations already established by Tashi and colleagues with the Police, council, and local Residents Associations to tackle this. We have been working closely with the Neighbourhood Policing Team in the Ward and are pleased to assure you that actual Police response is likely to be much improved following the proposed restructuring. The issues arising from newly arrived communities in the Luton area has also been discussed by the council, Police and residents groups and Tashi with his colleagues have established ongoing dialogue and positive action to achieve less disruption to the established long term community.

SURE START CENTRES SECURED

Funding for Medways 19 Sure Start Children Centres has been secured by your Conservative council. The Cabinet member responsible for education Cllr Les Wicks has reassured residents that although there have been some false rumours that Sure Start is being cut, this valued service will be retained in Medway. This means that residents can still make use of the Wayfield and All Saints centres safe in the knowledge that your local Conservatives continue to support Sure Start and the service they provide for our young people and their families.

Your Conservative councillor Tashi Bhutia has been directly involved with the clearance of alleyways and rubbish across the Ward and particularly in Luton. He and his colleagues have met and spoken with many people who share our concerns. Two more alleyways have already been earmarked for clearance in Luton. We will continue to help improve the safety and cleanliness of our local environment over the months to come.

RUBBISH AND WINTER ALLEYWAYS SERVICES

Tackling rubbish in the ward will be a key aim of your local Conservative team

This is just one of many salt bins Tashi has managed to have installed in the area since he was elected 18 months ago. Many potholes in the area have also been repaired and more are being done thanks to extra funding by your Conservative council. If there were 3 Conservative members all working together just think how much more work could be done for the residents of Tashi and Gloria with Luton & Wayfield. one of the new salt bins

SAVING CAPSTONE VALLEY

Alan and David have been at the forefront of the long-running campaign to save Capstone Valley from development. When Labour introduced their Local Development Framework planning process it allowed developers to bring forward proposals to build over 9,000 houses on one of the largest green spaces in the eastern part of Medway. Alan and David have worked for years raising petitions, hosting open-air events and lobbying within Medway Council to prevent this idea coming forward. So far they have been successful, but remain constantly alert to any new threat that may resurface.
