Geometry abounds in the real world. This project will increase your awareness of the geometric figures in the world around you. The grade on this project will count as a major project in the cumulative review category of your grade. In class, you will randomly select two (2) of the following items to photograph: Circle yours!
acute angle adjacent angles alternate interior angles angle angle bisector collinear points congruent angles corresponding angles equilateral triangle hexagon hypotenuse intersecting lines intersecting planes isosceles triangle congruent figures parabola line perpendicular to a plane linear pair midpoint obtuse angle octagon (NOT a stop sign) opposite rays parallel lines parallel planes parallelogram pentagon perpendicular lines perpendicular planes plane similar figures ray rectangle rhombus right angle right triangle scalene triangle line segment skew lines square straight angle trapezoid triangle vertical angles 2 lines perpendicular to the same plane cylinder cube sphere cone rectangular prism triangular prism pyramid coplanar line with undefined slope line with zero slope radius diameter concentric circles 2 planes perpendicular to the same line

Directions: 1. Photograph (digital suggested) an example of your term in a real-life setting, one photograph per term. When taking your pictures, please attempt to capture something unique, creative, and artistic. Pictures taken inside of your bedroom or classroom will not be accepted. Pictures containing people, including you, will not be accepted. Acknowledgements will be given to the most artistic photographers. Your pictures must be original and cannot be taken from the Internet, another student, or another photographer. This project is a reflection of you, so do not hesitate to put a bit of your personality into it. A digital camera is available for student use! 2. Save your picture on your computer somewhere you can find it (desktop suggested) as a JPEG file, .jpg. You may do this digitally if you have a digital camera, or if you prefer, you may develop your photograph, scan it, and save it to your computer. You will need to upload this photo electronically to submit it for your final grade. 3. Write a description of your term, one description per term, minimum of 3 complete sentences containing: Brief definition of the term in relation to the picture! For example, The pillars on this grand building in Downtown Albany represent parallel lines. Parallel lines are segments that are in the same plane and have the same slope. You may use your textbook to help you define the term. A property, theorem, or fun fact about your term. For example, Parallel lines are coplanar, meaning they lie in the same plane. You will also have to fill in where the photo was taken in a separate part of this project.

I will be creating a web gallery of your photos and their descriptions, so please check your spelling and grammar! This gallery will be on display on Back to School Night.

There will be one checkpoint for this project, plus the final deadline: Checkpoint #1: September 21 during your regular geometry class. You need to have the two terms defined on separate paper. You will receive a grade of four points as part of your final project grade. PROJECT DUE DATE: September 26 by midnight. Projects are to be submitted electronically on that date. Five (5) points will be deducted for each DAY the project is late.

All photos should be appropriate for classroom use, and will be on display on Back to School Night. Again, you may NOT photograph any people, including yourself! Inspiration: Shapes To Name
