Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

THE RAFFLES SCHOOLS CELEBRATE THE STELLAR PERFORMANCE OF THE CLASS OF 2008 IN THE GCE A LEVEL EXAMINATIONS We are pleased to share with you some highlights of the 2008 GCE A Level Examination results. The (JC) Class of 2008 has done us proud with their stellar performance. Both students from the Raffles Programme (72%) and students who joined after the O levels (28%) did exceptionally well. 2 918 (3 in 4) students scored distinctions in at least 3 content subjects. Of these, 647 students (1 in 2) scored distinctions in at least 4 content subjects. 3 In addition, 650 candidates sat for H3 subjects. Of these, 513 scored Distinction and Merit grades. Please refer to the Annex for more details of the results. 4 We are indeed proud of our students whose outstanding achievements contributed to the many new national records set by Raffles. All 4 students who offered 13 units of study, above the norm of 10-12 units prescribed by the Revised A Level Curriculum attained at least 8 Distinctions in the A levels and all-round excellence in other areas. The school swept a record of 9 out of the 10 medals awarded by the Institute of Physics for the top performers in the A level Physics papers. The school also achieved a record number of distinctions in General Paper, with 691 students (57%). A record number of 421 students achieved a perfect University Admission Score. This score is computed based on a maximum score of 90 points and takes into account General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry, Project Work, 3 H2 and 1H1 content subjects.

5 The (JC) Class of 2008 achieved impressive results in the areas of sports and the arts. In sports, we achieved 19 Gold, 12 Silver and 5 Bronze awards - the highest medal tally achieved at A division competitions last year. In the arts, the School bagged 9 Gold and Gold with Honours Awards. 6 The students have successfully built upon the rich and illustrious Rafflesian tradition for all-round excellence in education. The stellar performances at the A Level Examinations, the National Sports and Games Competitions as well as the Singapore Youth Festival are a testimony to the strength of the Raffles Programme in nurturing talent and developing peaks of excellence in both academic and non-academic domains.

7 The School is indeed proud of the outstanding achievements of our (JC) Class of 2008. Good results are contingent upon focus, motivation, hard work and consistent efforts. While teachers monitor and support the best they can, students must play their part and build a very strong foundation in first few years at RI. 8 As the Raffles Schools have always drawn our inspiration from the rich and diverse talents congregated within the Rafflesian community, I want to thank the RPA and many other parents and guardians, individually and collectively, for playing a key part in the success of the Raffles Schools. I look forward to your continued support and commitment in partnering us to lead the Raffles Schools to the forefront of developing talents for the service of nation and others. Raffles Institution has achieved the best set of results in 28 years. 9 The Raffles Schools will declare Friday 13 March as a school holiday in celebration and recognition of the contributions of staff, students and parents.

Auspicium Melioris Aevi

Yours faithfully

Lim Lai Cheng (Mrs) Principal
